Alright, I was playing at a tournament style home game last night when something that looked "shady" happened.Three people were involved in the hand, one short stack (semi-experienced) and two monster stacks (one semi-experienced and one rather out of the loop). The short stack was on the button and after a limp parade pushed all in, the sb folded and the bb (inexperienced monster stack) called, as did utg (more experienced larger stack) and saw a flop. the sb bet out 200 into the side pot on a flop of rags. the bb called. the turn was still another rag and this time the sb checked and the bb bets out 800 into the sidepot, which causes the sb to fold. the bb takes the side pot and the cards are flipped to contest for the main pot, the bb flips over queen high with a gutshot straight draw, the button flips over king high with no draw, the river bricks and the button stays alive.the bb and button are good friends, and after the hand the button said "I dont know if you did that for me, but thank you." at this I said "yeah, why did you do that? what if the sb had the winning hand to knock him out?" and the bb said "I wasn't bluffing, I thought my straight was going to hit"I said it all looked a little shady but we continued playing the same. Was I out of line to say something? Would anyone else have?Thanks for your time

You're within your rights to ask as long as you do it politely.However, the other guy is perfectly within his rights aswell to bet for the side pot, for whatever reason.

This happens all the time. He probably didn't even realize what he was doing. Besides if the sb guy(actually bb in your original description of the hand since you said the sb folded) wanted to check it down to eliminate the button he shouldn't have bet at the dry side pot. Once he does this all collusion (wink wink) is off as far as I'm concerned.

some people are just idiots.ive seen many times when people bet with a player all in with nothing but a draw.they just dont know how to play tournaments, thats all.no, u wernt out of line. fck em, who cares what they think lol

There is nothing wrong with that as far as the rules of poker go, there was a side pot after all. This is just one of those grey areas. If the folder is not as good of friends with everyone as BB and the short stack, its a little shady, but if everyone is friends, I think its ok(buy in and prize pool could change this). It's like playing at a casino on a table full of friends that check hands down continuously, Its not wrong, just gay and annoying.

Don't agree with that, if the guy has a chance to get more chips, i don't see how you can object to him going for them, poker isn't a team game.

So you want to know if suggesting that someone was cheating because he made a bet and another player folded, when he could have raised, is bad etiquette?

I guess I might have worded it wrong?I was just curious if it was out of line to suggest that one player was forcing another player out of the hand in order to save an all-in player. I'm pretty sure the person knew Q high was not the best hand and yet they bluffed a sidepot to force out what could have been the best hand.
