silicon 0
A good friend and I just took a quick trip to Turning Stone near Syracuse, NY. The experience is eerily like Vegas, though on a miniature scale. The New York State Thruway is mile after unending mile of trees and cows broken finally by the gleaming bastion of debauchery that is the Turning Stone Casino. It pretty much has it all, from Clay Aiken to fat ladies playing slots, but it excels at poker.Caveats. For reasons unknown to me alcohol is banned from the resort - even in your own room. They say they are working on it but if you absolutely need a beer at the table go somewhere else. We got around it by staying at a B&B nearby. Fantastic room, nice breakfast, good winelist and excellent food. The place was called Charlotte's Creekside and I highly recommend it over staying on the resort proper. The poker room itself is exceptionally large and well run. It compares in size with Bay 101 although I found TS to be much better run. The room has around 40 tables, most of which were in use. They were spreading 100 and 200 Max 1-2 NL, 500 Max 2-5NL, and a really nice $300Min no Max 5-10 NL game which is a bigger game than I play. They also offered a variety of Stud, Omaha, Omaha H/L and mixed games. The floor was always accommodating with players if the table requested a limit change too. The dealers were for the most part skilled and efficient. I only witnessed 4 or 5 exposed cards due to dealer error in the 21 hours I put in and only once was there a situation where we needed a floorman. Judging from their tip boxes they were making decent money and their dealing reflected it. Rake was $4 and they provided nice cards. I was disappointed with the chips which were grubby but the restroom was convenient and there was hand cleaner available in the room. My buddy is a smoker and he really appreciated the fact that there was a smoking area right outside the poker room. He was able to grab a butt and not even have to miss a hand if he timed it well. For the benefit of the rest of us the room itself is non smoking. Just a quick aside for the benefit of those FCP'ers with avatars of boobs and babes making out - the cocktail servers will give you lots to look at in between hands.A few hands stood out for me - any feedback you want to give will be carefully reviewed, considered, and most likely ignored. At a $100Max 1-2NL HE table. It was the first seat available as they had just opened a new table. I had won a few pots with good hands and had about $250 in front of me. A guy in his mid twenties was to my left and had been playing conservatively to this point - about 90 minutes into the session. Folded to me in the CO, I raise to $10 with 4h5h, guy to my left on the button quickly re-raises to $30, SB and BB fold and it's on me. To this point I had won 3 big hands, all in situations where I raised premium cards and hit good flops. Apart from that I had played virtually nothing. I decided to call and evaluate on the flop. The flop came Q 8 4 rainbow, I checked, buddy takes a deep breath and pushes his chips and announces all in. He had $78. What would you do?Another interesting hand. I was on the button with AQos. This little girl (the floor actually came over and carded her) with a striking resemblence to Jessica Alba, raised from the CO-1 to $10. I flat called. We went head's up into a flop of Q 10 5 rainbow. Jessica bet $20, I raised to $60 and she called quickly. Turn blanked - she bet $40 and I called. River was another Q. She seemed really happy and quickly bet $20 with about $140 behind. I had seen her play Q 10 a few hands earlier where she hit trip 10's to take a big pot. I had also seen her play any two paint cards and twice AA with the same betting pattern. Any thoughts? There were a few other hands and some interesting characters if anyone cares. jjdylan 0
the lack of alcohol has something to do with licencing between the nation and the state of ny i believe, but im not 100%. Anyways, its more than made up for by the fact that 18 year olds can gamble there, makes for much softer games than playing up here in niagara falls
