One backbreaker...battle of blinds, me (sb) with J7. Flop j-high, turn j, river blank, betting it the whole way, miraculously don't get raised on the end by bb, who shows KJ. nh not meNail in the coffin: LP with JJ, one raiser right behind me, I push, blinds fold, raiser calls and shows...108o. Naturally, 10 on the flop, 8 on the turn, river blank and gg me.Finished 10605.Good times though. Thx Obey and gl remaining dawgs!

Obey, wanna go back over my hand so me and my StupidKid brother can learn? LOL
I wouldn't have gone bust there. Prolly open fold, or fold to his raise, or fold on flop, or fold on turn.Top pair no kicker isn't a hand to go broke with.

Ok, this hand.I'm all for opening up your game. Really, I am, you should mix up your play and play more hands often as you move up in limits, so your game doesn't become predictable. The problem with a tourney like this is, A-B-C works a lot better 95% of the time, which means folding trash hands, because your fold equity (the ability to get players to fold hands, even very good ones, very mediocre ones) goes way down, so you need hands that play better for value, which means premium hands, especially early. Some people see little blinds and a decent stack and say "well I can gamble here for 30 chips." The problem is, that 30 chips can quickly escalate into your whole stack before you blink, as is this case.So first mistake is, if you're going to play these speculative little junkie hands, and Ks9s is one, and a guilty pleasure of mine too, raise it up something, to 80, something. Get the betting lead. That way, if you're reraised, a hand like this so easily dominated, you can just toss it preflop. If people call you (and often they will in these $11 tourneys), well at least you have the betting lead and can hopefully control the pot later and not get trapped yourself. Moreover, you may get a player behind you with better position to fold a better hand like KT, KJ, whereas, if you limp, you are guaranteeing those hands will see a flop with you and have shown no strength. Or fold preflop...probably smarter in this tourney. So mistake #1: You limped instead of raising.Mistake two. Position is so important in NLHE that it can never be overlooked. The player behind you has raised 5x your limp, a good raise. When it gets back to you, with no other callers, you are now forced to play a heads-up pot with a trap-hand. This becomes an easy fold. Instead of compounding your first mistake, you should cut your 30 chips loss and fold.Mistake #2: Calling a preflop raise after limping, out of position.Mistake three. You caught one of those good news/bad news flops. Good news that you hit top pair, but bad news is that there is no value in your hand. Either you are so far ahead (of a hand like QQ, JJ, AQ) or you are incredibly far behind (AA, AK, KQ, KJ, KT). You can't bet for value, because few worse hands can call, and when you check the flop, you'll have little idea where you're at in the hand. If you check-raise, you'll be committing so many of your chips in a negative-expected value situation where only worse hands can fold and better hands can call. So yes, checking can induce a worse hand to bluff, thus getting your more value, as StupidKid mentioned, but you'll have a tough decision on the turn. So let's say you check/call as you did.Mistake #3: Going broke while never even firing a single bullet and calling off all your chips in three spots with the way worst of it. On the turn, if you lead out and get raised, you must make a decision on what to do with your hand. In most cases, I'd lead out the turn and fold to a raise. This allowed your opponent to still fire his continuation bet if he was bluffing (value) while gaining the most information about the strength of his hand (protection/info) on the turn. You can then (somewhat) comfortably fold the worst hand, while saving a few thousand chips to fight back with. If you check, you are essentially either giving up on the pot (check/fold) or are going all the way with this hand just GUESSING/PRAYING/HOPING he is bluffing a second-best hand. In my experience, playing the hand the latter way becomes highly volatile, and turns the game into "guessy" poker where you are always check-calling and never getting worse hands to call/better hands to fold.Lesson: What started as an innocent 30 chips limp turned into a premature and unnecessary tournament exit. One mistake is usually unforgivable in NLHE. Three is a death sentence.(Don't take any of this personally ... That hand actually sums up a lot of the reasons why players have a hard time winning and serves as a great way to learn by making mistakes rather than repeat them)

Your captain as well as others still have not paid so this isn't happening again unless owners can actually run a team responsibly :club: I can't believe we are still chasing people down on Wednesday.

Ha. A simple PM would do nicely considering I've been away the past 3 days. I asked on Sunday before I left and didn't get a PM still. I'll do the digging myself to find the winner's SN.Is there an emoticon for gfy?sw
