Naismith 0
Compared to the pu-pu platter that was the Celtics core of young players, Jefferson was the second coming of Bird, so I give him a free pass... I'll take Bosh over Howard, btw.. Maybe not in 5 years, but right now Bosh > Howard... Where's Jadaki when I need him?Eh, it's difficult to argue with you when Bosh leads his team to the playoffs. I guess if we used Simmons' own value scale, if Orlando contacted Toronto about a Howard for Bosh trade, Toronto would at the very least think about it. If Toronto asked Orlando, Orlando would hang up the phone.I thought Orlando made a huge mistake a few years back when they traded T-Mac. The Clips wanted him and I felt like if they were planning on drafting Howard out of high school, they should've picked up LA's pick and rebuilt with Howard and Shaun Livingston. This isn't hindsight, either, considering how bad the deal they made was.I think this thread is coming across like I'm anti-Simmons. I'm a huge fans of his.

TB17 0
Oh, I wanted to chime in on the Red Sox. My wife runs the Boston Marathon every year so the family went out there last year. Stayed a week, and went to a Red Sox game on Easter. Sat in the second row in right center. Brought easter eggs and hid them in the stands around our seats for our 3 year old to find. The fans all knew each other and were awesome to us. I got a Red Sox shirt and a fuzzy blanket for our daughter that she still loves. So I've been to one game and decided I'm a Red Sox fan, and there's nothing you people can do about it.And anyway, I hate the Yankees. :)MarkSorry Mark we can't be friends anymore. Thanks for all the help you've given me, but if you're going to be a Red Sox Fan, then this is the end.O and FoxwoodsPro, Mark means that his wife RUNS the Marathon...not that she is in charge of it. But you're a liar too.Teddy

YBravo 0
Chris Bosh is about 1 billion times better than Dwight Howard. I exaggerate, but there really isn't a comparison there yet. Also, I think Simmons, when saying that Al Jefferson is the best young low post player, is referring specifically to his low post offensive skills, not to his general abilities. In general, Howard is better, but does he have the low post skillz that Jefferson has? It seems to me Howard mostly relies on athleticism and energy (when he's motivated). Okay, okay, hold on....hooooooold on.I'm willing to say Bosh is better than Howard, but he's not *that* much better and the Magic would never trade Howard for Bosh, but the Raptors would gladly make the deal in reverse. Naismith 0
No way, the Raptors are not trading Bosh, especially for a younger, less polished version of the same guy.LOL. We're going to turn this into an NBA thread.Bosh and Howard aren't all that comparable. Bosh is a more polished offensive player and will always have a better outside game, but Howard is a monster and just due to physical limitations, Bosh will never be the same. Howard is going to be more like Amare than Bosh.
YBravo 0
Yeah, this is getting moved to Sports whenever Zach wakes up.I agree that they aren't that comparable, although you make it sound like Howard will definitely be the better player. He has a LOT of work to do to get there. And oh yeah, OP content...I remember during Simmons' WSOP article last year when he called Stud Hi the NBDL of poker.

DrawingDeadInDM 0
BS > DN IMOAt least you're comparing two very similar people and professions. A poker player who sometimes writes blogs and poker articles for a poker magazine to a guy who's living is made almost exclusively from writing about sports--do remember that poker is not a sport. The same way DN comes off as ignorant about world issues and global warming, the Sports Guy sometimes sounds less than genius when discussing poker. But, props on being willing to defend him to the death, you twat.

opie 0
The Sports Guy has a Mailbag article today where he answers readers' questions. Here is one Q & A:Q: I've been a HUGE fan of yours for a long time, but please stop with the poker analogies. It's one thing to use one, though it's overused all the time in the media. It's another thing to mess it up! When you hold two cards of one suit in your hand and flop two more cards of that suit, you don't only have a 25 percent chance of hitting your flush; you have around a 36 percent chance! This explains why you're not very good at poker! Please stop with the poker analogies!--John, San JoseSG: This is my new favorite pastime -- to slightly screw up poker analogies to see how many e-mails I can get from the poker freaks. Missing those percentages by a mere 11-percent triggered nearly 600 e-mails. I felt like I just lost on a straight flush because somebody flopped a full house.---Peace,Opie
El Guapo 10
To me it wasn't that he gets percentages wrong, its that his poker analogies seem forced and do not flow within his normal banter. Also, something I have been wondering about, he played in the ME last year and obviously busted early and knew he had no chance of even coming close to cashing, so who put up the 10k? It was for an article, that maybe he got paid maybe 3k to write? Maybe? He seems too smart to gamble 10k of his own dollars on something he has <1% of winning money at. He also was going to play again this year but said something did not work out.Maybe some other writer out there can explain this to me, but how much can a syndicated writer who writes for the internet and one article a month for ESPN the mag make a year? I know he wrote for kimmel and wrote a book in the last year which probably earned him some good scratch, but I still do not see him putting up his own money for this, or seeing ESPN putting up the money for a terrible short article that wrote on it.Any educated guesses out there, this has been plauging my logic center since it happened. The All-in Trade. The single most ruinous trade in sports. Your average GM runs a team for five years, but your average fan supports a team for life. If the GM knows he's getting canned unless he takes a do-or-die risk, he's much more likely to push his entire stack of poker chips forward. Mark

MarkI like the unnecessary use of "poker" in the last sentence. He couldn't have just said chips there? I think he's doing two things here -1) Looking for us to Email him and say, "you know that latest analogy wasn't that bad, just avoid the math". Of course, this is never happening. This one wouldn't have been so bad though, if he would have just said "he's much more likely to push all of his chips into the middle" or something of that nature. Of course, he still makes it ridic.2) Email and be like, "would you f&ckin' stop it? Seriously, it's just ultra-annoying now" in an imaginative way so he has material for the next mailbag. I'm working on this Email right now because I am a total SG mailbag whore. Put me in there! One time!!!!!

They always have some of the best young talent in the league. They consistently rook teams in trades. (Thanks for Hanley Ramirez.) And you can go sit behind home plate for 30 bucks. Could be worse.
