there's a maniac at the table who's raising about 35% of the pots. he's got the button. UTG limps i limp in MP with AhKh hoping to reraise the maniac on the button button just callsboth blinds callflop is A -8-4 rainbow no heartsutg bets $25 he's very tight. i don't think i saw him lead at a flop in an uraised pot all dayi just called for 2 reasons. i was a little concerned with the nit betting into me and the maniac. i was also hoping the maniac raised. i would have folded if UTG reraised the maniac.maniac and blinds fold. me and the nit see a 5 come on the turn.utg bets $100 what should i do?we each had about $500.

Not taking control of this hand put you in a bad situation because from his perspective if he limped a hand like AQ-A9, the 5 changes nothing and he is still betting for value...I probably peel another and if he fires hard on river I'm folding without improvement.

raise pf...a lot of people like to get fancy and limp big hands with a maniacal player behind them hoping to get it raised for them, and all too often they end up posting these hands in forums like these because their pf trap failed and then they had a tough decision that they wouldn't have had to make if they had just raised pf...raising with the maniac behind you gives him a chance to re-raise you, and then you can 4-bet him back, getting more money in the pot in a +EV situation, rather than limp, either letting the blinds see a flop they shouldn't have or having him raise it, you 3-bet, and he generally folds his trashas played, this screams set...if he is really that nitty i think i would have to fold, or take the line that lavitz proposed
