Funniest Thing I Have Heard In A Long Time...

Recommended Posts

A few weeks ago I was at my local B&M, sitting in the 4/8 game while waiting for the NL game to open.A gentleman who looked to be in his early 40's takes the empty seat next to me, and puts his rack on the table, which only contains $40. He then pulls out a pair of mirrored Oakley sunglasses (yes...Moneymaker style) and puts them on. Then comes the headphones, which are not attatched your average, everyday iPod, but to some sweet CD Walkman. Just for good measure, the hood from his sweatshirt comes up onto his head, and he is definitely ready for this high stakes 4/8 action. Now this is not all that bad, as I have seen this kind of thing before. Mind you, I don't think I've ever seen the sunglasses, headphones, and hooded sweatshirt simultaneously. The real gem is this:He enters his first hand about 3 hands into the game by limping for $4. The flop comes A high and everyone checks. The turn is a blank and the BB bets, and is only called by our Hero. The river comes a Q and the BB bets again. And of course, as if on cue, our Hero goes into the tank. After much deliberation, he removes his hands from his face and announces: "I'm all in", and pushes his $28 forward. We all, including the dealer, just kind of look at him with this dumbfounded glance."You can't move all in, sir. The big bet is $8. You may call or raise to $16", the dealer says. And then our Hero said something that I will never in my entire life forget:"Oh, you guys don't play by Vegas rules?"I literally fell half way out of my chair.GG, sir.

ACTUALLY.....I have heard of a rule in limit poker in heads up situations on the river where a player can say he wants to go "all in" and the opponent can basically choose how much he wants to call...for example, the opponent can just say he will call one bet..or three bets..whatever he wants....basically, the player who says "all in" is saying he is betting and will re-raise as many times as possible...all in one more. I've heard of this before, not sure where they have this rule at..perhaps it is in Vegas and that's what this guy is talking about.....or perhaps this guy is just dumb. Probably a combination..from the sounds of it.

I've never heard that rule, although in some heads up situations, the number of raises can be unlimited, so that they can keep reraising back and forth until one of them just calls.

I've only heard a couple people say something about it..and they were both older players, so perhaps it is an old rule.....not around anymore...no idea.

its might just be a "house rule" for the no cap feature in HU limit play.meaning instead of going, raise, raise, raise, irasie, one can just say, "all in".. and the opponent can say, i'll call up to 6BB's. or whatever.would make sense maybe?

They usually don't say it until after the third or fourth bet when it's pretty clear no one's laying down their hand.. "Want to just get this all in? I'm gonna keep raising anyway.." "Yeah, me too.. I've got 56 left.""Okay, Here's 56, I've got lkvjal;sdvjsldva.s,dv.xa..."

the indian casino near me has that rule when you enter a betting round heads up. what koop mentions would essentially be shorthand for "if you raise, i'm reraisining. i will do this until i have all my chips in the pot." the only stipulation i could see with this statement would be when the other player wants to call a limited number of bets to finish the action. he'd have to select an amount that is the bet size * odd multiplier over his last bet, because it would be like his bet makes the pot $X + "all in" player raises to $(X + 1*bet) [+ reraise to $(X + 2*bet) + reraise to $(X + 3*bet)] + he calls last bet. the part in square brackets is repeated as a whole whenever the eventual caller puts in a raise. i think this is instantly too complicated for the average crowd at the 3-6 table at my casino.i really don't feel like doing real work at this point in the day.edit: and to OP, the correct reply is "no man, we're not in vegas."

This is almost exactly what a 21 year old kid did in the MGM once ... although he had to keep taking his earphones out to ask what he could do next. I was sitting beside him and just started elbowing him when it was his turn to act.

Yes, the casino frequently attended around here has the rule of being a limit game, while after the turn two players can agree on going all in. There's nothing as encouraging then the old "You wanna go all in?" "Uh no." "OK I check."

I've never heard of any "all in" rules in a limit game, and the casino we were at still has a raising cap, even when it's heads up. The guy was obviously trying to shove his chips in because that's what he has seen on TV far too many times. That is what made the situation so funny. For all the people who were asking what happened next, our Hero was still confused as to what he could do, so after careful explination of his options, he made the raise to $16 and the BB called. He proudly turned over Aces Up, and the BB mucked. I recieved this information second hand, as I was making a mad dash to the bathroom in an attempt to not piss myself from laughing so hard.

im pretty sure after the 4th raise you can declare allin at some places. i do know for a fact they allow this at their lower takes limit games at Foxwoods.

at my local B&M it's usually the unlimited raise scenario whenever it's heads up.I guess it would be better having the "Vegas" rule in place for these casinos. Can you imagine 2 players with 200 in front of each of them after the first rounds of betting. The river would go something like this ...betraisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raisere-raise ALL-INcall ALL-INTo find out that they both had the same hand and it was a split pot anyway :club:

Ive seen something like this before when 1 guy had broadway and then other guy had the nut flush. I had to fight so hard not to laugh my *** off after the guy put in literally the ~15th raise with a straight when there was a flush on board.

That was great! The cherry on top of this story would be if he was bluff raising on the river with some busted draw, and then goes on berating his opponent for making that *horrible* call with top two pair.
