steve7stud 0
I was in Vegas for about 6-7 weeks. I played a handful of cash sessions, and a handful of tourneys. The only poker I want to talk about are the limit hold em event, and the main event. My first table for the lhe event was great. Lots of very predictable players. A guy named Roc who I have played a ton of cash games with was sitting a few seats to my right, Phil Hellmuth was directly on my right, and JJ Lieu (sp) was on my left.Roc was in super aggro mode, but since I had postion on him, I was able to control the table fairly well. And then there was Phil. I haven't played a ton of poker with the guy, but I certainly respect anyone who has won 11 bracelets. Having said that, he and I argued like there was no tomorrow. Everything from crossbooking to last longers, to cash games, skill, etc. We went at like cats and dogs. At one point we were arguing so much that he stopped and introduced himself to me a second time. This was his way of starting over. Sadly that only lasted for a good 47 seconds and he couldn't contain himself. Limit poker with Phil is amusing. I don't think he displays the level of class that a lot of other tourney super stars do. It saddens me that with all of his notoriety he is still so insecure. But such is life.I ended up cashing in that event. Nothing special really. The main event. I did not make it to day two. I feel that I played extremely well to accumulate chips. And played pretty bad to lose them. A lot of people blame luck, table draw, etc. The fact of the matter is, I played poorly and have nobody to blame but myself.I do want to mention that I had the pleasure of playing with Chad Brown and Marcel Luske in a stud8 event. Both players were the epitome of class in my opinion. I had never met or played with them, but was most impressed with how they handled losses. I wish more pros were like them. That's it for poker.I was sick for two weeks which was not fun at all. I essentially didn't leave the condo that Casey (Bubbleboy) and I rented. A word about Casey. By far one of the coolest and most mature 21-22 year olds I have ever met. He was a graduate of s7s training, and I think he has a very bright future in whatever he does. An all around nice guy.I had a ton of fun at meet n greets with friends from s7s and random people from fcp.Aside from that, Vegas kind of sucked imo. It was ridiculously hot. Way too hot for my taste. The Rio was a zoo 24-7, and the structure for the limit events was horrible. Hence, me only playing a handful of events. Most of my friends in the poker world shared my thoughts. The WSOP is a great place to go for a few days. But being in Vegas that time of the year is just depressing. So there you have it, a bit late. That is my condensed trip report.

steve7stud 0
Steve,Were you more focused on the side game action than tournament play?I actually got to Vegas and found myself slightly burnt out on poker in general. My goal was to play about 25 events. But I found out that I was chip leader in two different tourneys with 14-16BB's. It was at that point I realized how much I hated the structure for those limit tourneys. As far as cash games go, I think the games are better in LA.

seemorenuts 0
When you are well rested, it sure would be great to hear those details about your disagreements with Hellmuth re everything under the sun. He's an engima, and we'd all like to know more about this character. As for Las Vegas' summers, I remember having to walk 2-3 miles midday to church every Sunday when we lived there in 1967.We also had one day of snow, but I can't remember which month. We lived in a housing quadrangle adjacent to the Pink Panther Cocktail Lounge, I wonder if they're all gone now? Lol.We also used to order hamburgers from the local A&W where they had the girls on the rollerskates serving you (a la American Graffiti) and after putting in a large order with an adult voice, we'd run away laughing our heads off. Mebbe I posted this before.

steve7stud 0
To answer a couple of questions. I don't think that Phil understood the nature of the table that we were at. He was very focused on his cards, imo. I was raising with a ton of hands because I knew how to play against most of the players. Phil would often call raises and check call and lose pots. Obviously he would complain on the river, claiming that he had everyone crushed, etc. It is far easier for him to set traps against weak players in no limit because he can get their whole stack. Where as in limit he can only get so many bets. He told me that I played one hand way above the rim. This is in essence saying that I played a hand for true maximum value in a way that most people would not have played it. Hence, a compliment. What he failed to realize was that I was in a pot against a player who I have logged hundreds and hundreds of hours with. I was almost positive of his exact holding, and knew that he would call every bet or raise to the river. Against an unknown player I would not have made nearly as many bets. I honestly believe that Phil did not understand the table in the same way that I did. I went on to bust Hellmuth from the tourney. It wasn't any sort of special achievement. I had position on him, and took full advantage of that. Most of our arguing was due to my super aggressive approach to the table. Phil likes to be table captain. On that day, he did not get his way.I am no longer sick obviously, but being sick in Vegas is not fun.Overall I lost on the WSOP trip.

GL on your future ventures...For the new among us, Steve7 is one of the best (and least famous) limit, stud and mixed game players in the U.S. That is no joke. I've watched him break a limit game against Mark Seif, Chow Giang and Huck Seed, and other times watched him pretty much dominate Chinese with many other notables, Robert Mizrachi, Sheiky, etc. He plays very high these days, his opponents being many of the current household names in poker. What may not be so great is that he is now becoming better known (and feared) as a result.just sayin.....
