JFarrell20 1
I know this should be in the Stud section but I wanted to let everyone know that the 7 card stud tables on Party Poker are softer than ... an old man's ... well, let's just say it's soft! I mean it basically translates to "more cards/more chances for opponents to err."I know Akishore has posted about Omaha hi/lo being soft, but I made $46 in 36 minutes tonight at the .5/1 7-card stud table. And I never play stud. I think I just may have to play it a little more now! Seriously, I'm tired of sitting at the limit hold 'em tables getting dealt AA with 6 limpers ahead of me knowing full well that raising pre-flop is dam.n near futile (of course I do it anyway, and invariably lose a large pot).I'll post some stud hands so you can see what I mean...by the way... is there a Stud hand converter??? Does it matter? Oh well don't yell at me for not converting! I'm trying to help you all make more $$Remember the first 2 cards and the 7th card are face down. The 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th cards are face up. Primarily it was 4-handed at an 8 seat table. Game plays with an ante and the low card showing brings in the first bet (forced).#Game No : 1926480639 ***** Hand History for Game 1926480639 *****$0.5/$1 7 Card Stud - Thursday, April 21, 00:10:19 EDT 2005Table Top of the World (Real Money)Seat 0 is the buttonTotal number of players : 4 Seat 1: Uplay2lose ( $17.25 )Seat 5: pporong ( $102.05 )Seat 8: tony_5261 ( $26.33 )Seat 4: JFarrell20 ( $30 )Uplay2lose posts ante [$0.25].JFarrell20 posts ante [$0.25].tony_5261 posts ante [$0.25].** Dealing **Dealt to JFarrell20 [ Ts Jc As ]Uplay2lose opens.Uplay2lose bring-ins [$0.25].JFarrell20 completes [$0.5].tony_5261 calls [$0.5].Uplay2lose calls [$0.25].** Dealing Fourth street **Dealt to JFarrell20 [ Qh ]JFarrell20 opens.JFarrell20 bets [$0.5].tony_5261 calls [$0.5].Uplay2lose calls [$0.5].** Dealing Fifth street **Dealt to JFarrell20 [ 8s ]tony_5261 opens.tony_5261 bets [$1].Uplay2lose calls [$1].JFarrell20 calls [$1].** Dealing Sixth street **Dealt to JFarrell20 [ Kc ]So I got lucky and hit my card. lol. Â actually, 1st, 2nd and 7th cards are face down and 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th are face up. Hellmuth's section on stud is pretty good if you want some reading on it.
StackOSociety 0
Yeah, I've never played stud IN MY LIFE, and I just held my own at the tables there. Was up about 20 and down almost 30 at the low point, but basically broke even at about a 5 dollar loss. Lost a 40 dollar pot when I had aces in the hole that improved to a 2 pair and some guy hit a full house hitting both 6 and 7th street to make the boat. And some @#$$# who had 2 pair but rivered a gutshot ot beat my trip jacks. Ahhh. Interesting game, stud is. I was playing it heads up for awhile and was doing pretty good one on one. Hightlight of the night? Calling down with nothing, hitting an Ace on 7th street and re-raising a bet to take down a nice pot when they had at least a pair of 5's on their board. Tee hee. Alcohol and new poker games go hand in hand...
JFarrell20 1
Yeah I mean I'll try it out again tonight and see if I'm as lucky. I'm assuming the stud tables are full of old people with retirement $ to burn.Holdem seems to be full of college kids more and more. Even at .5/1 I hear people talking about fold equity, implied odds, and other stuff that .5/1 fish shouldn't be aware of! lol. The stud table (at least the one I was at) was full of people who seemed to have a sub-Ape IQ.Seriously, it's like they don't even look at everyone's face up cards. Just their own. lol. They seemed to enjoy playing every hand as well.Just remember to play aggressively if you're dealt 3 suited cards in a multiway pot, b/c you'll end up winning more than your fair share.I basically folded if I was dealt 3 unsuited cards of which 1 or less was a paint card. Also, play down cards that are "sneaky" (obviously). But it seems like the other players prefered to play their ace up card even if their two down cards were junk. It obviously is much more beneficial to play better downcards. (Unless you are heads up and bluffing that you have a pair of aces, or whatever.)But yeah, I think .5/1 holdem players should be able to crush .5/1 7-card stud. These people think a pair of queens out of 7 cards is actually good. Just remember your hand should be significantly stronger in stud than in holdem (as is also the case in Omaha)Good luck. srblan 0
I play stud quite often to build a roll. The antes mean that you'll get a lot more loose calls early on. That means that your strong hands will get cracked more often, but your really strong hands well get rewarded heavily. Tight third street strategy and always drawing live are keys to success in this game, and the latter is much more important than the former.
