I saw DN on the V-Blog today and it got me to thinking. I predict that the WSOP will make the $50k H.O.R.S.E. event the ME by the year 2020, which will crown the World Champion for that year. They will make the current ME the World Championship of HE. The H.O.R.S.E. event is a better measure of who the best player is. It will grow in prestige over the next half dozen years or so, it is aldready a very prestigious event, and Harrah's will finally make the change sometime next decade. On another subject, I looked at the structures of the $50k H.O.R.S.E. event this year and it looks like, based on the structure sheet on the WSOP website, that the FT will be H.O.R.S.E. this year and not NLHE as it was last year.

EDIT: You're right it was just purely NL. ISAL . I disagree that the 50K HORSe will replace the ME, the 10K ME has too much prestige imo.

If they are going to show it on tv it will probably be NLHE at the FT .

It is, but I'm sure ESPN isn't too happy about it. The H.O.R.S.E. event is guaranteed to have at least 4 if not more big names in poker and you get to see some sick poker skills at work (such as Doyle's QQ laydown) and the only game the public knows very well is NLHE, so I'm afraid this will be a bust besides those poker devouts such as us. But the H.O.R.S.E. final table re-ignited some of my friends wanting to get back into poker after they watched the sick sick laydown Doyle made. It's just that 7 internet unknowns that are 21-25, some old guy, and then a big name pro at every final table gets a little repetetive.

The FT was HORSE last year, just the hold em part was NL rather than FL I'm pretty sure...This year they'll be televising all 5 games instead of jus HE. I disagree that the 50K HORSe will be the ME, the 10K ME has too much prestige imo.
What you just said made no sense at all the whole final table was no limit unless im mistaken. that would be the most stupidest thing ive ever heard to just change the hold em part to no limit

No way, never going to happen. NLHE will stay the poker game of choice for the masses for a very, very long time.

I think it is. The current ME is close to peaking in popularity, and it might have peaked last year. They may make the change, change the current ME to the World Championship of HE, and make the $50k H.O.R.S.E. event the overall World Championship Event.

And hurting the interest in the ME even more that way? It would be a very stupid business decision to publicly devalue the worth of winning the main event imo, Harrahs makes much more money from that event than from the 50K HORSE.

I couldn't disagree more. You are increasing the prestige of the H.O.R.S.E. event. You would be adding a second ME. You would be changing the overall ME to a new game that is gaining in popularity and taking it from a game that is peaking. You would still be keeping the $10k HE tourney, but changing it to the ME of HE instead of the overall ME. I am saying this will happen sometime next decade, and that is based on the pretty safe assumption that the current ME will top out at some point and the H.O.R.S.E. event will gain a lot of popularity each and every year. There will be over 200, and maybe as many as 300+, people in the $50k H.O.R.S.E. event. Mark my word.

There are dozens of $10K buy in NLHE events every year, and none have even nearly the number of participants as the WSOP ME. Why? Because it's the WSOP Main Event. Your average NL donkament player doesn't give a **** about HORSE, or maybe thinks it is an odd game to paly but nothing serious. And they have no chance of explaining to their wives why they want to spend 50K on a lottery ticket. Especially if the lottery is LIMIT poker, which is just excruciatingly boring for many people, even if there were no Razz and Stud8 in the mix.Never going to happen. Not even Harrahs is that stupid.

Lol if HORSE became the ME all the pros would quit and spend 20 hours a day playing online in Razz and Stud games to profit off of the fish scrambling to learn the basics of HORSE. I know I would.

i really dont see any harm in raising the entry fee fo rthe ME. just go to 20K or 25K. That will thin the field a bit and make it more likely that a known player will FT or win the thing. I think that the 50K horse and the ME should be held to a close standard but keep the ME have its prestige.

No way they get 300. 200 is a stretch too. Really do you think there are that many pros and amatures who can afford 50k for 1 tourney. You are right that it is a more prestigous tourney than the ME donkfest but the 50k severely restricts the number of entries. There probally less than 20 who sattelite in and I cant see people getting staked for this unless they are among the best in the game. They got less than 200 for the 5k event.

They will get just over 200. 300 is probably a bit optimistic. There is no reason they cannot get more for the $50k event. They have a lot of sattelites, both online and at the WSOP. They had around 150 last year, so it would only be a 33% increase to get 200. Last year was the first year, so the TV exposure will add players. People will buy in to the $50k event that will not buy into the $5k event because the $50k event will be televised and is much more prestigious (remember the $10k ME gets more entries despite being the highest entry fee for any HE event).

Its been known that NLHE would not make up the final table for a couple of months now, but I disagree about it becoming more prestigious over the next couple years. Most people already believe that the HORSE crowns the best poker player. I don't think many people would argue that Jamie Gold is better than Chip Reese.

Of course Jamie Gold is better. 8773 > 143.sw

I think they ought to buy in all prelim bracelet event winners to the HORSE event; take it out of the prize fund. That way they build up the numbers of the HORSE event.

Poker news just announced they had... *5* whole more entries for the 50k HORSE this year! So that makes the total a whopping 148. Of course, the main prize is like $2.2 million plus, so that's an impressive haul.

Awesome idea! Talk about giving money back to the poker commmunity... Let's do the math real quick.. 35 entries (assuming no double-winners) 35x50k = $1.75 million added to the prize pool for horse. This year: $7.1 million in prize pool = 1st place prize of $2.276 million(with 35 buy ins from previous event winners:)$8.79 million prize pool = 1st place prize of $2.81 million for first prize alone. Not a bad idea. Plus a free buy-in into the event might encourage some of the pickier pros to enter then earlier events (don't count on it).

I dont know how anxious Harrah's is to give 1.75 million dollars back that they got from buy-in fees.
It wouldn't come out of Harrah's pocket....it would come out of each event total prize pool.
