It seems like you guys are kind of joking in your replies but to be more serious for a minute...you should NEVER mix alcohol and poker....it's a lethal combination. Not only will it lead to you playing a looser style of play....but it will lead to more tilting due to the incresed emotional state that people get in when they are drunk. I have done it many times....so I am speaking from experience. Most recently, I dumped $5000 at Casino Niagara playing a 10-25NL game with a bunch of birds that had me spinning from the second hand. Now, it wasn't that I was playing badly...I just wasn't able to control my emotions when some fish made an unbelievably bad call when I had the superior hand before the flop. Pocket Aces against 10 J off and the fish flopped the straight!! Normally, I could walk away, get some fresh air and say...."that's poker for you" But no....the alcohol comes out....I start gunning for the fish and dump the rest of my money!!! Trust me guys....when you're playing....don't drink.

Bah, people react to drugs in different ways, alcohol never affected me that much - even when I'm completely wasted, I still know what's going on and have control over my actions. And I often play too tight live, a couple beer before/while playing live help me loosen up a bit and actually play better poker, and it doesn't make me tilt easier.

whoever said it loosens you up is right. i find i play great after ive had 3 or 4 beer, and then just sip a beer an hour or so after.. but ive stopped doing that all together and im still doing fine

i've found that what works good for me when playing live is getting a whiskey & 7 and sipping on it slowly (having 1 an hour or so). It's not enough to get me drunk, but enough to relax me and weirdly focus me.

Booze in small amounts isn't too bad, makes me play a little different but not bad I don't think. Just loosens me up.It's weed that's the killer. If just a tiny toke hits my lungs I play like a complete muppet. There's no doubt I'll loose badly by playing overly timid, waiting for a big hand, but then loosing the focus, making a big raise with something like A6 (they have to fold right, I've been tight all game) and then going over the top when I get raised and getting battered.
