grocery_mony 8
I'd be happy if the kid in the AHL (don't know his name) was solid and Ottawa would certainly have to pick up another centre. I think Fisher and Vermette are both 2nd line guys. So it could work out well for my favourite 2 teams or badly.Schneider and he was the second best goalie in Manitoba. Derswick 0
Schneider and he was the second best goalie in Manitoba.Shneider had a very poor start to the season but a strong finish.I'd say at seasons end he was the better of the two.

Fenxis 99
F.O. with the Luongo for Spezza rumour. That wouldd a Senators fans wet dream. There's no way that would happen straight up -- even if Luongo wants to be moved. Would need Gerber and maybe a forward prospect to make it work (ie a winger for the Sedins?).
Reelishymn 0
Of all the UFAs, I think Morrison may be the only one coming back, depending on his rehab. I would love to get Sean Avery on the team, they that kind of toughness although it comes at a price of his antics. Daymond Langkow would also be a good fit, IMO. That was would sweet if we could get Fabian Brunstrom, he would play well with the Sedins. I would make a run at a RFA, Kevin Lowe styles, for someone like Patrick O'Sullivan or Jeff Carter.I still stand by my previous post. However, it looks like Brunstrom will think again about going there because of Nonis' firing, he may choose the Red Wings or Leafs instead. I think that Bieksa may get moved because he doesn't have a NTC, which I would absolutely hate to see happen. Vigneault is likely gone too, or given a chance to show how he can coach this "new direction" next season before getting fired if he fails. I'm expecting new management to turn this team into a run-and-gun style now, which I have mixed feelings about.I understand why they let Nonis go, but I don't like it because I'm a Nonis fan. He had one good year, then a pretty horrific season this year at -11. Until he puts together 2 good seasons Im just going to say last year was a fluke and he's not worth his contract.I still hate the Nonis firing, Aquillini is such a dumbass who has no idea what he's doing. If any of you watched his conference Im sure you'll agree. All he talked about was how he wanted to have a competitive team in the future, hello...what do you think Nonis was trying to do when he stood pat at the ****ing deadline?(except for the Pettinger trade ofc which was minor)
Fenxis 99
Maybe Aquillini really didn't want Brunnstrom @ 2mill? dunno
grocery_mony 8
Maybe Aquillini really didn't want Brunnstrom @ 2mill? dunnoI keep hearing people talking about what a loss it would be if they lost out on Brunstrom but Ive heard that he is very overated and his agent is excellent at the hype game. He is far from a sure thing.

He is far from a sure thing.Well isn't anyone who wasn't even drafted and currently not even in the NHL far from a sure thing? Its not like the rumored contract was crippiling even if he turned out to be a 3rd liner. I really hope the owner doesn't do anything stupid. This team really just needs to let a few guys go, pick up a few good free agents and hope some of the younger guys step up.

MapleLeafpoker 1,462
Mike Gillis? Are you fucking kidding me?anyone know, is this a done deal?I bet $10 at 10/1 on Sat night on Gillis. I couldnt believe they had a line on this, and then to my amazement two different sources both talked about Gillis being a probability, and yet at sportingbet he was going off as longshot at 10-1. Having known some things about Gillis, I could totally see him getting this job, esp in Van. This might end up being the most ridiculous $100 I have ever made. Wish I had more money left on the account (damn baseball games last week!)

WestcoastCanuck 0
I guess it is nice to see some new blood, but I kind of would prefer Nonnis.
grocery_mony 8
I can deffinatly see the advantages of having someone like Gillis in management, but the top spot right away? Someone I heard on a show is speculating that Aqualini wants a bigger hand in hockey operations and wanted to put someone in the spot that he can control. If that is the case get ready for a decade of mediocrity or worse. Also hearing the Aqualinis are running GM place like its one of there low rent slums.
Reelishymn 0
So I guess Naslund is coming back, likely at a higher price than he's worth right now.
sennin 0
So I guess Naslund is coming back, likely at a higher price than he's worth right now.Source? Or just speculating? I wont mind having him back, as long as he's stripped of captaincy and obv has a smaller contract
Derswick 0
At what price and terms do you think would be appropriate to bring Nasulnd back at? 1, 2,3 year deals? $3, 4, 5, 6, 7mill per?
sennin 0
1 year @ 3-4mil imo. preferably closer to

I wont mind having him back, as long as he's stripped of captaincy and obv has a smaller contractSpeculating, but since then it sounds like Naslund won't really fit into Gillis' plan unless it was for pretty cheap. The most I'd give Naslund is $3million but he can probably get $4-5million from another team because 25-goal scorers aren't easy to come by. WestcoastCanuck 0
Scott Mellanby has been named special assistant to Gillis. I love Mellanby as much as the next guy, but I would prefer to see some more experience being brought in to back up a rookie gm. So far he has hired away someone associated with the fiasco that is the Pheonix / Winnipeg organization, and a retired player. Time will tell I guess.
