Bad Luck Or Bad Play?

Recommended Posts

This hand has been bugging me for a few days now and I thought I'd see what you guys take on it was. I'm not sure whether I played this poorly or whether it was unlucky or whatever it was. Me = 2,525 chipsVillian = 2,760 chipsblinds = 25/50I'm in the SB and it is folded around to me.Me = Ah AcI raise to 150Villian CallsFlop = 2h 9d 3hI bet 300Villian CallsTurn 8hI bet all-inVillain callsRiver = 5s[edited results]Looking back on it I prob should not have gone all-in on the turn with possible flush out there, but what should I have done before the flop. This may sound strange but I actually find aces really hard to play succesfully, what I mean by that is gettingt the most amount of money from them and narrowing the field of players down sufficiently etc etc, but I'm not sure what else I should have done before the flop when it is just me and the BB.Again your help and input is much appreciated!!!

Okay you did nothing wrong preflop 3x bb raise is sufficient....there is no need to never go allin unless you have the nuts and that was not the case. I think your bet post flop was good also. Where you made the mistake was moving in on the turn I think another half pot bet is sufficient if you get raised then consider folding but you took any decision making out of the equation when you pushed allin. I think you need to understand putting all your chips in is not aggresive poker it is a mistake the only hand that calls you there is one that has you beat. Just remeber you win small pots and lose big ones with pocket aces. good luck to you

Instead of half pot, I 3/4-pot to pot it when I have aces. If villain calls/raises behind you, he likely caught a piece of the flop and or turn, and you can set yourself up for a C/F on the river, or a C/C if he bets weak. Pushing all in here is a bad play unless you're sure villain can't get away from hands like TP.

Agree with all posters. The allin on the turn is a bad bet. If you bet 600 on the turn and you're called again, odds are you're probably beat. If you're raised, you're beat. I like pushing all in preflop with AA from time to time, especially heads up. A gross overbet sometimes will get called with marginal holdings, even if you don't do it often. Once a flop comes heads up, its generally very hard to put anyone on a hand, especially even in chips like that with room for play.

This is not NL cash game play.where are the stack sizes from other players. what positiions? hows the feel of the table? If this is a cash game, you need this info.as played. it looks like a SNG. and i'd raise more preflop.the end

I play AA strong PF. After the flop, all you usually have is top pair, which is a tenuous situation to be in, as you found out. As played, I really push hard on the flop and don't let the flush complication come for free. As it turned out, you can't put the villain on 23 and this is just one of those beats you have to take. I don't think you needed to stack off on it.
