A New Type Of Rake?

Recommended Posts

So I go to my local B&M to play in a WSOP ME qualifier tournement (stage 2 of 3), and during the first break, I am wandering around the casino listening to my MP3 player and minding my own buisness. As I meander my way back to the poker room, dodging the rows of slot machines, I am approached by a couple security guards.Stern guard #1, "Excuse me sir, could you please accompany us to the poker desk."Me (confused), "Is there a problem?"Stern guard #1, "There's no problem. The poker manager just wants to talk to you about an incident a couple of weeks back."Now at this point, I know there is some big issue that is going on, and I start racking my brains as to what they might be talking about. I know I haven't taken part in any strange incident in the past couple of weeks (...or months for that matter...) but have been a witness to one or two disputes amongst the players, so I figure they might want me to recall such a particular event (...it was a short walk to meet up with the poker manager, so that lame possibility was all I had time to come up with before I arrived). When I speak to the poker manager, she informs me that on April 15th (almost 2 months ago, now) the cashier over-paid me by $100 when I cashed out.Ummm... What???Apparently, they have video footage of me going to the cashier, her counting out $785 in chips and giving me $885 in cash. Good. Video evidence will settle this.Me, "I am sure there is some mistake, may I *see* the video evidence so we can settle this once and for all?"The poker manager (who is in fact, a very cute, friendly lady)... Damn! ...we are discussing an important issue here, and I keep getting distracted by that shapely figure and her... Argh! Back to the story... (reluctantly) Anyway, the poker manager replies sheepishly, "Umm... I'm very sorry, but we cannot allow our patrons to see our security footage."Me, "You've got to be joking! That's the craziest thing I've heard...", I pause and collect myself, "Well, what recourse do I have right now?" I figure that I would *clearly* remember being overpaid by $100. Even though I am certain that they are mistaken, a little doubt creeps in my mind: (normally I watch the cashier intently when they count out my cashout, but sometimes after a long session, I am tired and distracted... Could I really have missed out on a miscount like that?)Poker manager, "Well..." she hesitates... "We could get a representative from BCLC (British Columbia Lottery Corporation) to *independently* look at the footage for you..."I laugh before I can catch myself: the BCLC is the government corporation which controls all the casinos in the province. To top it off (and I think this is the reason for her hesitation) it is currently being investigated for suspicious lottery practices and corruption...We discuss it further (she seems just as amused as me that I can't just see this video footage that --if I were able to see it-- would settle the problem once and for all) In the end, I let the BCLC representative take the "independent"(1) look at the footage. To my complete and utter lack of surprise, he concludes that I was indeed overpaid by $100, and must repay that money. Without further (resonable) recourse at that time, I reluctantly hand them $100, and end up getting a free dinner for acting so reasonably during this debacle (I plan to treat myself to the most expensive entree on the menu next week... I like to call it my "steak"-back on the $100 extra rake I suffered). It had better be one *damn* fine ($100) steak...Cheers,Merby(1) this term is used very loosely

What a load of crap. You acted a lot more mature than i could have.
Why do you think they had the *hot* poker manager break the *news* to me? On top of that, I was in the middle of a tournement that I *really* wanted to win. They certainly picked a good time to confront me with this miscount.Looking at my records today, I do see that I was at the casino on the 15th of April, and cashed out for $785... So it is likely that they are correct about the incident (although I am *certain* I would remember such a miscount! ...especially for $100)The good news is that I won the satellite seat to the $1550 WSOP ME qualifier next week...

eh, whatcha gonna do.I personally would have been hard pressed to give up the hundo without seeing the tape myself. Why didn't the casino just eat the hundred dollars and write up the cashier? I'm sure the cashier got in trouble whether you paid the $100 back or not. you crazy Canucks

If u play there often, just go along with it i guess.if not, I'd say F.U. i dont have 100 dollars. bye.end of storyP.S. what casino???
It was Boulevard Casino. And yes, I'm a regular, averaging 1-3 sessions a week there. They know that too, so I couldn't see them going out of their way to cheat a regular (especially when there are many other casinos nearby...)

ty ty... Before the break (and the incident) I was at double average chips... After the incident, in the span of a matter of 10 or so hands, I lost 3/4 of my chips to coin flips, bad calls, general tilt stupidity... I was sooo steamed and distracted, that for the first time ever, I called the clock on the player to my left who was taking an *uber*-long time to decide to call/fold preflop.I have *never* called the clock on some one when I am not even in the hand, so this was a sign of serious tilt. The guy just *wouldn't* make a decision!...Then I looked down at the cards which were still in front of me!I pulled a Moneymaker, and forgot I had a hand, then proceeded to one-up him by calling the clock on *myself*!I sheepishly fold and no one says a word.Let's just say that I had reached a new pinnacle of tilt, and leave it at that.

Boulevard Casino was formerly known as Great Canadian Casino (Coquitlam), but changed its name after the remodel. They spread 2/4 and 4/8 (kill) limit and 1/2 and 3/6 no limit. I've never played the 2/4 games and barely played the 4/8, so I have no comments. The 1/2 game is super-soft (think $0.01/0.02 online) and very beatable. The 3/6 game has some crazy players, some calling stations, and one or two good players per table. It's profitable if you don't mind the swings that the crazy players bring to the stacks. Everything got better once the allowed alcohol at the tables (yaay!!!)They have a bad beat jackpot on all tables ($1 per hand after $20 in pot) which pays out anywhere from $15,000 to $200,000 (probably averages around $35,000). The major drawback is the rake. They rake 10% up to $5 per hand (which is crazy... include the bad beat jackpot, and you can get up to a $6 rake per hand --even at 1/2). The good news is that the tables are *soooo* soft, that you can still beat the rake, but it certainly cuts into your profit margin.River Rock is also great. The play varies from table to table between a rock garden (rare!) to a calling fest (common) to a table full of drunk/stoned maniacs (Late night on the weekends). It's a 45 minute drive from my place, so I don't go there too often...
yoh merby i live in port coquitlam , like 10 minute drive to the bouley. you play the early bird tournies there?
I have only played two of the early bird tournements, and that was only after I pulled a couple all-nighters at the tables and knew my brain was mush. It's just too much of a lottery for my tastes. Normally, you can find me at the 1/2 and 3/6 NLHE cash tables, although I often play their $100 and $330 tournements.
