He is a dou.che and obviously jealous of a "certain religious person who gambles".....Who cares if he gambles on the golf course? Sklansky obviously cannot get anyone to play with him...

Sklanksy and DN have had some, erm, words in the past, if you look through DNs post history there you'll see hilariously harsh (and true) criticisms from DN about Sklansky.

Seems to me that the only one craving admiration is Sklansky. What prompted him to even begin a thread on the topic? Talk about opening yourself up for some target practice.Jealousy in it's purest form. :club:

So if he don't respect the guys who gamble big bucks, why doesn't he call out Doyle or Ivey or any of the others in the big game who also golf? I respect what he's trying to say but it just comes out like sour grapes. I mean how many millions does Sklansky give to charities from his book royalties?

This cracks me up:And I have no problem if people want to gamble big money without this edge. But to call this second category "admirable" seems totally wrong. Not when the world is in the state it is in. I don't understand how people can be geniuses in some senses, and so moronic in others.the amusing thing is that he thinks he is making a point. these people are not throwing their money in a well. they're not even playing roulette, and giving their money away to already-rich corporation shareholders. nope. they're playing a game with no positive or negative edge. they are paying no fees. if "mr high roller" had won half a million, would sklansky still have an article? he is criticizing how two (or more) people share a relatively small amount of money amongst themselves by suggesting instead of sharing it with eachother, they give it all away. for moral and religious purposes apparently.

He's just jealous that he doesn't have the $$$ to pony up to the golf game.He probably wasted all his dough in Singapore looking for 13 yo boys.

I agree. I think the thread Sklansky started is interesting and should be debated here and elsewhere. But why call out DN? And why imply that he is somehow a hipocret for having faith and a little gamble? On the bright side, maybe this will bring DN out of hiding and we can hear from him.

I have been wrangling with this thread since it first started since it is so similar to a prior thread of a day or two ago.But Sklansky is noteworthy I I feel it would not be right of me to alter this thread in any way. However, I hope that DN does not respond. I am tired of these attacks, not because it is DN and it is his site, but because it is the same trash recycled every few days. It's all just idle gossip. OK... let's all think some positive happy thoughts, like DN and the rest of the FCPers are going to clock at the WSOP.

I did not read all of the thread...but he has a point...DN shown's up to play golf and bets 500K or more with no chance of winning....DN has a edge at the poker table with his unreal reading ability, yet why would DN bet 500K on golf when he has no chance to win?....have you seen his swing?

Exactly!!!Like when people complain about political candidates "wasting" money on things like advertising. As if that money isn't going into the economy. The other thing that bugs me is the anti-religion accusations that because someone declares themselves a Christian, they are hypocrites if they gamble or don't devote their entire lives and attention to their religion.

I have a problem with the guy who can make 400K a year playing high, throwing away enough money to feed an African city, beause of a ridiculous notion that he can make money where no one else can. Especially if his tiny chance for success doesn't translate into helping others if he somehow succeeds. - SklanskyTranslation- I started a vague gossip laden thread because I'm a Socialist and I feel the well off are obligated to give back to society. That is bullsh1t, plain and simple.
