Not at all the same thing.
see BigD's post I guess. It's not exactly the same thing, but according to your mantra, it is.
Which are????
For one, it can be dangerous. Players call eachother off to help in catching the ball, but also to avoid injuries. Secondly, its the kind of thing every one can do, and really just decreases the quality of the game.

Total contradiction. If calling someone off prevents injury, then how is the other team calling you off dangerous?

Communication between two people with a common goal (ex. pilot/co-pilot or shortstop/3rd baseman) is used to promote efficiency and safety. A third party entering the situation with the sole motive of interfering with that communication can result in...lis-robot.jpg

Yeah dannyg made a good point there. DM already responded, but think of it this way - two fielders (let's say 3B and SS) are coming together under a pop fly. The 3B calls for it, and the SS backs off. Now a runner comes by and calls for it. The 3B is confused and backs off. The SS sees this and makes a desperate attempt for the ball. The 3B sees that the SS didn't really call for it and that he is out of position. The both lunge for it and collide.

Wow you guys really are taking this pretty far with the whole "someone could have gotten hurt" angle. The 3b was CAMPED under the ball... under no circumstances would the SS call him off there. He got duped, it was funny, get over it

No I'm just saying the rule makes sense. I'm not saying Gay-Rod was gonna cause injury to anybody.

Mike Lowell is a cutie pie (and does not have a major receding hairline, like Arod)

you're the only one in the country who would rather have them than AROD. He's a first ballot HOFer, He will go straight to cooperstown, he will not pass go, he will not collect 200 dollars. Is he worth the money? that's another subject. But you'd be nuts not to want him on Boston, if the rest of the line up could remain the same.

explained already, but also consider that if people like runners start calling for balls, fielders will begin to ignore said calls, which will lead to collisions.

wrong about the SS never calling him off. often guys seem camped under a ball and get called off.it was pretty funny though.

LOL yesterday I realized the true meaning of suitedaces' "ROR" post and didnt get around to replying, so this'll work bigD. :PWell, I guess what I meant by the comment was it worked out ALRIGHT for the Sox in 2004. We won the World Series with Mueller and without ARod. Since the trade fell through and he ended up in NY, the Yankees haven't won a WS and the Sox have....so it worked out okay for the Sox. Can't argue with that statistic.I was not disputing his talent, there is no doubt Arod is a great player and will go to the Hall of Fame and he's better than Mueller and Lowell. But, in retrospect, it worked out okay. And, remember, we would have had to trade Manny Ramirez to get Arod. Not sure Arod would've been worth that trade.
