If 24-tabling and lack of sleep results in misclicks in situations like that, it becomes an integral part of your game that must be compensated for by running good in other situations, or by stepping up your game to a level that does not include days of breaking even or losing. In every game I've ever played in live, anyone agonizing over the call would have made it perfectly clear that he had a straight flush and have been trying to get some sort of validation for his suspicions by chattering. Meanwhile, the crotchety old regulars at the table would be chattering about the prospects for the bad beat jackpot as soon as the flop came out, so both players remaining in the pot would be keenly aware of what was at stake. At that point, the player with the bottom end would say, "Do you have it?" and the player with the top end would say something to the effect of: "I think there's about to be a jackpot."Then there would be high-fives all around.

Here you can get a 300,000 dollar house for what a 1-1.3 million dollar house cost in cali... and it will be much nicer in quality. The nightlife is top notch, especially when you turn 21... There are dozens of golf courses within an hour of anywhere in dfw. Thanks to the barnett shale, our local economy is in much better shape than the rest of the U.S. (i.e. Gas,housing,food.) It's a great place to live with a ton to do... and although the closest casino (winstar) is about an hour north, it has an extremely nice poker room that is really big. -
What is your girlfriend planning on doing in Buffalo? My fiancee is from there and keeps suggesting we move there, but the job market looks sketchy...i've played there a couple times, definitely better than the canadian casinos for most games--better selection, more action, etc.it'll probably be my regular haunt when i move to buffalo (no, this was not a conscious choice--i'm tagging along with my girlfriend) at the end of the summer. -

In the email they ask me what I want to do with the $ (there is like 2500 in the account) and I reply saturday morning and say please transfer it to my original account.it's now TUESDAY AFTERNOON and I have no money in my account. I also never got a response to my email, and wrote again yesterday with no response. does anyone have any thoughts of how to remedy this? If we measure improvement in terms of diminishing losses, I could technically improve at blackjack over the longrun if you told me to lower my bets from $500 a hand to $5 a hand.Obviously poker is a skill game, but I do not believe this study is great evidence for that. I could improve a novice's results at blackjack by giving some basic instruction as well. They would lose less over a period of time (which is what happened here -- if you look at the data these players did not become profitable). -
Most people I've met think poker is fine as a hobby, much in the same way they can rationalize bringing a few hundred bucks to a casino to play blackjack. To them, gambling is gambling, and it's fine in moderation. Those same people think that any attempt to make a living at poker is a sign that an innocent hobby has crossed the boundary into full-fledged degeneracy.Honestly, I have made a nice chunk of change playing poker on the side, and I still consider myself a degenerate. The fact remains that online poker pros are not contributing measurably to society... so the rationale goes. They're not working at GM, making useful products for consumers. They're not out on highway patrol, keeping the roads safe. They're not working in labs, curing cancer. Instead, they're part of a pseudo-underground entertainment industry. And quite frankly, recreational players will be just as entertained if they're allowed to keep their money (less rake) in a zero-sum game as they will be if Joe the Pro takes their money. Poker players are more like leeches who making their living by glomming onto an entertainment service and exploiting inequities in its clientele. I think a couple years ago we had an argument on this forum over whether professional poker was a "noble" pursuit. I still maintain that by prevailing standards, it is not. It's a means to an end that enables those with the chops to avoid toiling away in a cubicle working for "the Man." I think many would be jealous of the lifestyle, but I'm not sure how many people actually respect it.Bottom line: if you're going to tell people what you do for a living, be prepared to justify it (or at least state defensively that you don't feel like justifying it).I really dont know why you feel like youll be looked down upon by your peers for playing poker professionally imo.
The "every player goes bust at some point" credo does not help poker's cause. It's a tall order convincing people in the business of risk assessment that you have found the secret to harnessing variance. Perhaps a select few who have been initiated to the mathematics of poker understand how buzzwords like "expected value," "optimal play," and "discipline" can apply to give someone an edge in what is legally still considered a game of chance... but I don't think this progressive understanding has crept into the conservative world of banking yet.I would simply say that you play poker for a living, it has allowed you some degree of financial freedom and you are beginning to explore other ideas such as real estate investment...etc.. -
