Casino's don't tax you on money that you win when you're there, whether you play poker, blackjack, etc. If you happen to win a poker tournament, they may report to the IRS, I'm not sure on that. The IRS can tax you as income on money that you make gambling, but it would be your responsibility to report it, and frankly unless you keep detailed notes, and win a lot, it would be very hard to prove winnings or losses one way or the other. I would venture to guess that most people who leave casinos with money in their pockets never report it.

In light of one of the big posts on the forum today, I'm laughing my ass off at what just showed up in the chatbox while I was playing on Party Poker."Are you tired of all the bad beats? go to www.beatPPnow.com I wonder if this site sells tinfoil hats.

I haven't read to the end of this thread because I don't have time, so I'm sure someone beat me to this, but I just want to point out that Custom is a respected poster on this forum and you sir are a doucheclown. Yes, PartyPoker is rigging things against you. They want to lose your business. They hate you and like fish who chase longshot draws. C'mon man, get real. You're experiencing bad variance. It sucks, it happens to everyone. Take a break and come back later. If you're a good player, you will once again be cleaning up on PP before you know it.

supersystem 2, need jennifer harmans section
TheCinciKid replied to generalkefka's topic in General Poker Forum
Me and you are trying to acheive the same goal. Make a living of poker.I'm not going to waste my time pointing out all of the grammatical errors in these two sentences, however I can't resist pointing out how little sense they make in the context of your post, this thread and the quote you posted from my blog. Ask any poker pro out there how many games they play and they will tell you that they play pretty much all of them. Not just Hold'em. Yes, Hold'em (particularly NL) is huge right now, but will it be huge in five years, ten? Maybe, maybe not, but if it isn't and all you know how to pl -
supersystem 2, need jennifer harmans section
TheCinciKid replied to generalkefka's topic in General Poker Forum
This is quite possibly the silliest thing I've ever read and we are all dumber for having read it.Here's an idea for you. Buy SS2, read the section on LHE and the section on NL as well if you're actually wanting to improve yourself in that game also. Then, once you feel you've "realized your potential in LHE and NL," start reading other sections of the the book and trying to master those games. Yes I know, that makes far too much sense. I'm sorry for being too sensible, you should just try to find a library that has it and copy the limit section, or try to get a bunch of people on an inter -

You just made this website up didn't you? Yes I checked, it doesn't exist. Busted!

:?JJ is going to hold up around 40% of the time against four random hands (according to PokerStove). I'd consider that to be fairly "often". Granted, your opponents hands might be slightly better than "random", but no one's raised...so they're not likely to be all that good. Giving them some random but specific marginal hands, you're still at around 25% (so you have equity). And "giving away your hand's strength"? Do you just complete with aces, kings, or queens? I mean, you might give away your hand strength with a raise.I think arguments can be made for just completing and for raising. I thin

my fold was correct but maybe not playing fish
TheCinciKid replied to Patricnz's topic in General Poker Forum
Maybe I'm confused, but I don't really get how you can say your fold was correct as you folded the best hand. I guess against good competition if you think you're beat, then you folded at the right time. In a 5-dollar SnG it's probably a little weak/tight. But, it can be argued either way. You could save you saved your chips for a better spot, but then again, when are you likely to get a better spot? You have top pair 2nd kicker with a redraw for the inside straight, very few hands have you beaten at this point (AA, JJ, TT, AK, KQ, AT, AJ, JT), okay I wider range than I originally thought -
I've been playing a lot of $.5/$1 limit hold'em on Party Poker the last couple of weeks and I've noticed something interesting. During the week I've been pretty up and down, steadily making money, but not a lot, maybe 2 BB/100 or so. But, on the weekends I seem to really clean up. Last Friday night I had a session where I made 97 BB in about 9 table hours and I just got done with a session where I made 67 BB in about 10 table hours. Now, this has me wondering if I'm just hitting an upswing in variance at around the same time two weeks in a row, or if the game is somehow much softer on the

my parents are worried about the legal side of poker
TheCinciKid replied to MDawg198's topic in General Poker Forum
As far as taxes are concerned, if you're 18 and have no job or a part-time job that doesn't make you much you're not going to have to pay very much (or sometimes any at all) income tax. Check with a tax advisor, but I believe the number is around 4K before you start getting taxed on income. So, if you're playing micro-limits it's highly unlikely that it will be worthwhile to report a couple hundred in winnings to the IRS. That being said, if you start making a lot (several thousand i the year), then you'll have to report. -
what to play with 75 instant bankroll
TheCinciKid replied to fflcdndctx's topic in General Poker Forum
Party Poker SnG's suck, especially the $5 ones with their obscene 20% rake. If you're any good at small stakes limit play $0.50/$1 or maybe even $1/$2 if you feel like gambling. Unless you hit a monumental run of cold cards and bad variance the Party low stakes games are so soft you shouldn't go bust and actually should be able to build a decent bankroll this way. Once you have a decent amount, you can start following proper bankroll management. Until then, just hope you don't get very unlucky. -
I'd say $100 probably isn't enough to sit down at a $3/$6 game with, I like to have about 30BB to start with, so I'd say $180 is about what you should be sitting down with, if you have too little you may not get an accurate idea of whether your play or the cards are causing you to lose. In answer to your question, my only advice would be buy Small Stakes Hold'em by, Miller, Sklansky and Malmuth. Read it a couple of times paying particular attention to the pre-flop section. This will give you a good guideline of what to play from the blinds, and really in general it will help you beat the ga

best online poker site for sit'n'goes?
TheCinciKid replied to mused01's topic in General Poker Forum
The jumps are more severe than full Tilt but the rounds are 10 mins instead of 6. 1500 to start.Having played both, I liked FullTilt's structure better than Stars. Felt like it left more room for play. Just my two cents though. -
These are very frustrating hands to lose, but I've seen $0.50/$1 players call raises with way worse hands than A7o. Just remind yourself that most of the time your QQ will beat his hand and over the long run these players will give you money if you play right.

A few weeks ago I decided to give PokerStars a try. After playing most of my poker there for a couple of weeks I've come to the conclusion that I really don't like the site. I don't like the look or feel and I was losing money, which is probably due either to short-term variance or the players there being better than me. Either way, I racked up about 1200 FPPs and I have no desire to play there ever again. I want to get something out of my FPPs, but I don't want to advertise for the site, so I don't really want any of their merchandise. What I would like is one of the books that cost 2000

best online poker site for sit'n'goes?
TheCinciKid replied to mused01's topic in General Poker Forum
I used to play a lot of Sit n Go's on Party Poker, until I got fed up with the structure. Since then, I've tried PokerStars and FullTilt. I have to admit I was most impressed with the structure on FullTilt. Blinds go up every 6 mins, but you start with 1500 chips and the blinds only go up by about 20 chips at a time. Last night I played in an SnG that lasted just over an hour and I was heads-up with 13,500 chips in play and blinds of I think 150/300 at the end. Leaves plenty of room for manuevering and play as opposed to the crapshoot that PartyPoker SnG's get to be at the end.As far as t -
A good player in $10 SnG's can make the money consistently 40-45 % of the time. Getting first 15-20% of the time is probably about as good as it gets. Now, this is mostly from my past stats, and I admit I'm not the greatest SnG player ever, but I would say that realistically your chances of winning any given SnG can't be much better than 25%. So, I would put any given players' cahnce of winning the Million at less than the 0.02% that someone mentioned for someone winning 30% of the time. That being said, if the structure is ok and you're a good enough player to make money doing it, why not

My advice to the OP would be to try 1 or 2 tabling for a while and pay really close attention to your play and that of your opponents. Are you constantly making correct decisions? Are you punishing them for drawing? etc.If you're doing everything right, the stats should come around in the long run. However, you mentioned that you're afraid that you may be making mistakes and costing yourself money. If so, cut down on the number of tables so you can pay closer attention to what you're doing and what your opponents are doing. This should help you get a better measure of your game. Good L

I don't have any specific hand histories here, but more of a general question on playing pockets Kings. I know that it is always correct to raise and re-raise with them before the flop, since the only hand that has you beaten is AA, however after the flop, the waters become murkier and I'm afraid I've given up some bets that I shouldn't have by playing them too far. If the pot is multiway going to the flop, say 4-handed or more and an Ace comes on the flop should Kings be almost automatically folded to a bet because of the high likelihood that one of the other players holds an Ace? Or, is t

IMO: According to SSHE, If the pot isn't offering you at least 10.5-1 odds, you don't have enough odds to call for a gutshot, which usually only happens if there are alot of people in the pot already chasing their own draws. If you don't have those odds, you should fold cus you're going to lose money in the long run. I think.Little help, FCPers? What you just said is entirely correct, assuming you're chasing a clear-cut 4 out gutshot, the break-even pot odds are 10.5-1. Remember also though that not all of your outs are always going to be pure...for instance, if there is a two flush on the bo

I can't believe that I'm dignifying this post with a response.Until you understand that the ability to pull off a good bluff from time to time is what differentiates the winning players from the losing and break even players, your aspirations to become a pro will remain aspirations.
-
Yes, play higher limits...this is the answer. If you can't beat bad players you will do much better against good ones.I know getting sucked out on can be very frustrating, but these players can be beaten over the long-term. Read Small Stakes Hold'em by Sklansky. Play the way the book suggests. Don't try to bluff or do anything creative. You will beat the bad players long-term.

please everyone what do you think of this fold!!!!
TheCinciKid replied to offsuitbluff's topic in General Poker Forum
I've been watching this forum for months and have yet to post, but this play was so atrocious I feel compelled to comment. The pre-flop minimum raise reeks of AA or KK, many online low limit players do this. I don't hate the call with Q9s, it's the kind of hand that can bust AA if you hit the right flop. You then hit the exact flop you were looking for...short I guess of flopping a flush or a straight. How can you possibly fold?!!!This is simply horrendous poker. All of your justifications tell me you were playing very scared. Move down in limits that's my advice.
