  1. I agree with this being a strange and bastardized form of poker, but I also think that within the confines of this tournament it was okay, maybe even fun. Lets face it though, this was a publicity stunt...they had soccer players playing. Could this legitamately be called the World Cup of Poker? And give me a break on all the Canadian chest pumping here. I have nothing against the Kanucks but you can certainly find a better reason than this to be proud. TonyG made it sound as though the only reason that the Canadians lost was their lack of preperation...maybe thats true. Had Danny known about this format would he have played? He says 'no' now, but.... he might well have just prepared like everyone else. Finding out the day before might not have been enough lead time to do so. I think the biggest concern here is the worry that this event could promote collusion among the masses of fish who think TV poker is king. I hope this thing doesnt even air in the US!We don't stick our noses where it does not belong and try and befriend everyone not rule everyone.

Please dont talk about what Canada does and doesn't do on the foreign political scene. If you must just talk about what it doesn't do though, you'll have much more to say.

  3. I dont know how many people know of or read Paul Phillips' blog over at extempore.livejournal.com but I have been reading it on and off for maybe a year, I dont mind admitting. He seems to be a very intelligent man with some good insight and I am genuinely interested in some of his topics. But at some point in almost every post I find myself thinking, 'God this guy has the biggest ego.' I know that basically a blog about your life is an excercise in egomania but this guy just tears everything down. Makes me laugh when people say Danny is an ego maniac, he's nothing compared to this guy. At least DN has an overall very positive message. I will continue to read Paul's blog because I do find him intriguing but I am wondering if any of you poker/cyber/blog surfers have any insight/thoughts on this.

  4. God that hand made me sick!! It wasnt that river card though, it was Danny's chatter. The whole time Im thinking 'Oh God shut the hell up'. The kid was ready to fold and DN kept yapping. I thought it was pretty amateur of him. Reminded me of some online player in a televised event that cant stop talking while he's in a hand.

  5. By the way, moving in with AK on a 6-handed .25/.50 NL table is probably a winning play over the long haul.
I think that too, but I also know that Im gambling there. Im also a believer that I can out play my foes after the flop so why give up so much by moving in (Its arrogance all the way but you cant be that good without confidence.)
  6. I'd like to preface this by saying, I do not proclaim to be an expert. But my opinion is as follows...I think I'd take the play away from him by betting out on the flop. If I'm called or raised, I'm probably done with the hand - check, fold. There are just too many hands that can beat you. The only exception is if you think you'll get paid off if you make a straight flush, but you'd need some pretty huge implied odds to make that worthwhile. The way you played it, when the Button calls the check raise, I'm done with the hand. What kind of hands might he call a check raise with? I'm guessing: a made flush or straight, ace or king high flush draw (or maybe a straight flush draw), overpair, trips. That's pretty much it, I think. So your best case scenario here is if he's drawing with say AcKd, in which case you'd be a marginal favorite (55%-45%). Anything else and you're already beat.Hands like this put you in the position of either winning a small pot or losing a big one, and that's not a good spot to be in.
Id say you are almost certainly up against a flush draw in which case I'd like to make him pay for it, although if he has a str8 draw to go with it the price would have to be pretty steep and your read pretty solid. I lean towards checking the river and paying off any medium-small bet to a non-flush card.
  7. I was playing solid 6 seated NLHE @ UB, .25/.50 blinds, lastnight for about an hour and was winning about 30 bucks. I started to feel pretty tired and was calling Pre Flop and folding Post Flop with every hand, when I find AKoff in 1st Pos. I raise, get reraised and reraise all in. I was called by KK and lost the pot. I was tired and stupid and gambling. But now I feel better about this and can move on. Thank you forum Gods for all this free therapy!PS. Is it bad to view every bad play that I make as a learning experience or is that just an excuse for sucking?

  8. Like all above I agree that WSOP has become a joke and a fish frenzy. However I do see that there is money to be made and that this will always afford non-pros the oppurtunity to sit for such enormous prizes. That being said i hardly consider the main event a true deciding test for the world champion of poker. If the so-called pros that we have come to know and love could achieve some solidarity on the issue, they should agree on a qualifying system. A point system, much like the POY, would include all of the season's $10000 buy-in tournies to decide on say 100 qualifiers (or whatever # they decide) for an end-of-season championship. The qualifiers would then put up $25000 each and all beneficiary parties (ie casino, tele station, website, advertisers) would also come up with $25000 for each player making a prize pool of $5M ([$25000 + $25000] x 100 players). I would assume that all the best pros would make it and hopefully we would see the kind of final tables and build up that we really want to see. Please reply. I am interested in this boards thoughts on this idea. PS. Im doubt this is an original idea, I'll probably hear about it though :club: .

  9. Only three rules I follow:1. Never get involved with a women who has a tatoo of a dagger on her back2. Never play cardds with a man with the same first name as a city 3. And never get less than 12 hours sleepYou stick with that, everything else is cream cheese.-coach from Teen Wolf

  10. I would bet the turn here at least half the time (when I dont expect a raise) on of your huge draw so that is one missed bet. Plus i dont really like checking here on the river, I try never to miss a bet on the end because i got greedy. Ideally I would get 1 or 2 callers on my turn bet. Then when my hand is made on the river, put in a disguised post oak hoping for a raise at which point if it is your aggressive player I make a reraise.

  11. I think I would almost certainly fold in this spot. But it wouldnt be the worst call the only problem is: are you going to throw in another bet on the Riv if you miss? You shouldnt but at this point in a 1/2 lhe game.....Thats why I wouldnt call the turn.

  12. I have been reading about personal poker tracking software such as Poker Office or Poker Tracker, are these useful/worth buying? Are they more useful for limit players? What sort of information do they provide? Do they track other players for you? And most importantly, can anyone say they have seen a marked improvement in their game because of them?Any answers are much appreciated. I'd hate to be missing out on an advantage that everyone else has.
