I think its a pretty good strategy actually, and certainly a great tool to keep in your box but I dont think it is necessarily something that you have to worry about someone overdoing. Dont know what limits your playing, but unless youre playing exceptionally tight for some reason, you will have a hand many times in that spot and "pay them off" anyway. Obviously in a NL game they may raise too much for you to pay them off, but in that case I would just factor in the possibility of the CTB play and fold/call/raise accordingly. The best defense to a CTB culprit is to sit to his left!

I think it was David Grey who made the "atheist" quote. I have absolutley nothing to base that off of, other than that he looks like he could be religious
, just wanted to open the floor on this one. Seems like Daniel inserted this bit specifically to start a thread on. For that matter, who's an atheist? I know DN isn't, "God Bless, Daniel Negreanu." Maybe it was him! -
Thanks all. That is what I am doing. It was just upsetting because this guy is a friend and I dont want t olose that because of this stupid deal. And at the same time I think, whats fair is fair.

Daniel, we're worried about you buddy, but not that worried.....see quote below. PS. Saw you at Mandalay Bay I was the guy railing you for a while in the pink polo

I recently was involved in a situation where me and a friend played in a large tournament and decided that we would take 10% of each other. We thought it'd be fun and to spread around the risk. We didnt discuss details too much, just a blanket 10%. I ended up winning the tournament, it was a live tourney, and the prize was about 11K. I was informed by the casino that I would get a W-2 (g) and would have to pay tax since its over 10K. I have been unable to find a detailed inforegarding this situation, but it seems obvious to me that I should pay him off from the net profit, not the gross. He does not like that ruling. Does anyone know about this? Are there guidelines somewhere I can refer this guy to?Thanks

I'd buy a house in Vegas and an apartment in NYC. Thats about 3 Million down! I'd go on every extreme sport vacation I could dream up. I'd throw a huge week long party at a carribean resort for all my friends and fam. Invest half of whatever was left and play and live off the rest. Nice dream. But this reminds me of lotto. When I buy a ticket, I have no illusions of actually winning, but I realize that what Im paying for is the right to talk about what I'd do if I won. PS. @ some point I'd do two chicks @ the same time.

Holy ****! That is me!!! Thanks.

Im not so sure if it was part of the schedule or just MB's $500 but we played on the WPT felt and I got a little glass trophy that says WPT on it, so Im assuming. It was Saturday June 3rd.They held a $500 event ? -
I won a $500 Mandalay Bay WPT evnt on June 3rd during my trip to Vegas last weekend. There were only 65 players and first was $11,000, but I must say it was as good a field as Ive ever played against. It was my first live win in a casino and boy did it feel amazing. Im still glowing. Its unbelievable to say this now but, at this point the money is so secondary to the win itself. That fact has me amazed. I was also able to see days 1 & 2 of the championship. DN practicing his golf swing, all the boys hanging together, D Dubya and Evelyn Ng joined at the hip (God she is waaaay better looking in person if you can believe it), Shannon Eliz., Doyle and Barry chatting, and all the rest. It was a fantastic thrill. If you ever have a chance to see a WPT event, and are a fan of poker celebs, certainly go! At one point DN was called over to take a picture with some people that had just been married right in between hands. He was a perfect gent. Pretty extraordinary. He was like the mayor of the room, going to all the tables, chatting with everone, I guess just being himself. But its different live becasue you get that sense like, "Huh, it really isn't all an act." Not that I ever really thought it was. Anyway just thought I'd share a great and memorable experience.

"Youre tired of me pushing you around arent you? I feel your pain brother. I call." -Me on the final hand winning a Mandalay Bay $500 WPT event last weekend.

Hey Im no big jewelry guy but you can bet your bollocks to a barnyard that if I won the WSOP ME I'd wear that sucker at least for a little while. Are you kidding me? It would be about the greatest achievement of your life, theres no way you wouldn't wear it.

He was playing with Chip, Doyle, Barry and Ivey, those guys are insane gamblers, with tons of cash. I doubt they'd even be interested in $25,000 bets.I have to think that $1 million is high. I'm going to say a quarter million guessing that he lost maybe 10 $25,000 bets.I'm interested to see what others think. -
haha What are you talking about I spelled it correctly... see for yourself. That my friend is bad news, BAD news!! no good comes from tight players in cash gamesIts also Ridiculous, not Red. just so you know,
-
Look at the good news, if no one can get any more money into their sites people will start playing ridiculously tight. Im talking about folding AK to no raise int the CO!! In the world I see...the only showdowns will be between the first and second nuts, bonus whoring will become a myth like dry land, poker tracker will be obsolete because everyone will be a super TAP, you'll play on one site the rest of your life, and stay in doors for fear of an FBI manhunt of all online poker players. Feel better champ.

Maybe its me, maybe Im a little delusional, but all of Daniels talk about the big game just gets my blood boiling, makes me want to hit something! I get the feeling that his losses are my losses and the same for the wins. Its funny to say but I am 26 living vicariously through DN...and I suspect there are others....Anyway, just wanted to start the thread and say thanks again DN and everyone that makes this place good. So, how much do you think he was stuck in golf? I'll start the bidding with $1MM.
-
I think that someone made the point that maybe he is describing aspiring 'big gamers', I would agree with your reasoning though in the case of the regulars, Barry, Doyle, David, Eli, Chip, Danny Et Al. I doubt these guys are sitting with all their liquid assets (cash). I mean they have to keep some reserves for golf gambling!i understand the concept here but these people are poker players.... do you sit down with all of your liquid assets at the table at one time? I'm aware there's a bit of difference between the interest that can be earned on their roll as apposed to mine. but I would still see them having a reserve big enough to see them through a couple of bad sessions. -
Isn't the head already part of the nail?Nail, meet head.

The Mayor Bob Stupak. I cant stand old geezers like that. Nothing against old folks, but guys like Stupak do have younger couterparts: those smug, annoying little bast*rds who are 21 and 2 days and are trying like hell to be the next PH.

While I believe this is true, I am so much more comfortable playing live then online its incomparable for me. Is this a common feeling? I dont claim to be MM online but I do make a small profit. Mainly my playing time is too sporadic and this is a great hindrance, I believe, to anyone trying to "make it" online.anyone of average intelligence can become a semi decent player online, i think live poker reqires a little more light upstairs. -
On that note, I wonder, Daniel, if you had 'the talk' with Lori before you got married. Obviously at this point the likelihood is tiny, but endorsements and projects won't last forever, and you're practically in Hollywood now and you know what they say, "Hot today, cold tomorrow". Do you ever think about the minute possibility that you could one day be on the felt? Did you ever talk to your wife about that issue? I mean no offense but any gambler knows that it is always a possibility. I just wonder with as far as youv'e come if its ever a consideration.Never. The day I lose my gamble is the day I quit poker... -
Though slow, and dangerous behind the wheel, senior citizens can still serve a purpose. Dont you go dying on me now!

Youre mistaken, kid. I think you'll find that a large number of CEO's and Executive Mgmt has in fact graduated from a college or university and many from a graduate program too. If youre talking about private business type people, well my argument there is that these people's ambition is borne from a lack of options, for the most part. They realize that there aren't many possibilities for them to be "successful" so they must endeavor to make some worthwhile business. Most of these people do not succeed. And Actors? What do they need school for? Last I heard, they're just handing out TV shows to anyone who comes to Hollywood. Being a working actor is as easy as waking up in the morning. (Read the sarcasm please)The fact is that an overwhelming number of HS dropouts are relegated to menial labor jobs and generally void of oppurtunity throughout their lives. DN is obviously the exception, not the standard.Nothing against these people, but these are the facts and they are indisputable. I guess my point is dont put your eggs in one basket: drop outta school, buy a lottery ticket, go to Hollywood, and play online poker.you do know that most actors and succesful buisnessmen (and women) never finished school? Kerry Packer (australias richest man with around 7.2 billion AU) had dyslecsia and never finished school. neither did richard branson -
Ive seen soemone get carded and ejected from the Borgata Poker Room. They also confiscated whatever chips he had at the table. pretty funny watching this kid whine like a bit*h on the way out too. Beware, it could be you!
