  1. Somebody on SOSH made the point that Soscia should have just pulled his team off the field, as the third out had clearly been called with a fist pump by the home plate umpire. Obviously at the time Soscia figured they could just get one more out and end the inning, but he really would have been justified in taking his team off the field. The home plate ump is now on tv saying that the arm swing signals no contact, and the fist pump signals a strike. This is true, but as can be seen by earlier replays, on strike three he always makes the fist pump just ONCE. If his fist pump on strike three m
  2. Finally one I can answer...this thread has sucked all day. Hannah and Her Sisters(p.s. I hate woody allen)Interesting that you say you hate Woody Allen, then choose one of his worst movies. I'd hate him too if Hannah and Her Sisters was the only movie of his that I'd seen...
  3. I said it before and I'll say it again: Soscia really should have argued until he was ejected. The ump made a mistake I have never seen: he made the correct call motioning the batter out, then allowed him to run to first and called him safe! It's similar to a situation where a runner is called out at first on a ground ball, but the ump lets him have the base anyways cuz he ran so damn hard for it.
  4. Don't Drink the WaterJohnny Depp.PARTY FOUL!Seriously. I think we should start back at Don't Drink the Water, cuz Johnny Depp sure ain't in that movie.

    game 5

Ass-Rod made $26 mil this season. Vlad made $12.5 mil. Is A-Rod more than twice as good as Vladdy?
  6. Also important is the fact that THE CATCHER DIDN'T DROP THE BALL.
  7. Don't Drink the WaterJohnny Depp. You must be thinking of a different movie, cuz Johnny Depp definitely isn't in Don't Drink the Water.
  8. No.Full count, no one on, 2 outs. Then, uh, the Angels blew it.Uh, no the umpires blew it. Yes they only needed one more out, but there's no guarentee they'll get it. The point is, THEY ALREADY GOT IT. I think Soscia should have argued harder, asked for an umpire meeting, and yelled and screamed until he got ejected if the call wasn't overturned.
  9. I realize it's a generalization, but that's still bad advice. What do you put him on for the cap preflop, and how many outs do you have, and is the pot big enough to chase those outs? That is the eternal question in limit with overcards.I gave that advice because most people overplay ak. I think the best way to get value from it is to play it when it hits and fold it when it doesn't against an aggressor (especially if the aggressort capped it preflop).
  10. Definitely a fold. You'd wish you called with 72 when the flop comes 772, but it's still a good fold.
  11. Fold. Bottom pair, even with ace kicker, you should fold to the raise. Your ace might be dead against aq or a9. Only out that really looks good is an 8.
  12. For Whom the Bell Tolls is an incredible book. Have you read The Sun Also Rises? Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour: an Introduction by Salinger definitely makes my top ten. Maybe the best book I've ever read.
  13. I don't think checking is a bad play here. Often you'll want to lead out with a small set, but when you flop the small boat against an aggressor, I think you may want to give him a chance to bluff. This is especially true if you thought he was trying to steal the blinds...good chance that he'll keep trying to steal. If you lead out you're hoping he has an ace, but if you check you give him a chance to lose some chips whether he has an ace or not. Certainly you want to lead into him IF he has that ace, but it's not terribly likely that he does, so let him bluff. That being said, you should
  14. I think in general you should fold ak when you miss the flop UNLESS you're the aggressor.
  15. So let's say you hold 99 and the flop comes jj9. You fold to an all in because you might be drawing dead (vs jj)??? There's almost always a chance that you will lose everytime you play a hand. This is a definite call. You have too much invested to fold here when only a pat flush has you beat.No I dont fold in the scenario that you said. Because there are many scenarios that you are far ahead of. In his case there are not a lot of scenarios that he is far ahead. The hands that he is likely to see form a call are a flopped flush (which he is dead to) or some othe type of coordiated hand tha

    crash

Crash was totally cheesy and overdone. I think I heard that P.T. Anderson helped work on the script, but whether he did or didn't, it's a terrible attempt at something like Magnolia (written and directed by P.T. Anderson). Magnolia is beautiful and surprising. Crash is a Hollywood tearjerker which has a blatantly obvious and boring message. Ludacris was its only saving grace. Lines like:"Anthony: That waitress sized us up in two seconds. We're black and black people don't tip. So she wasn't gonna waste her time. Now somebody like that? Nothing you can do to change their mind.Peter: So, uh

  18. First of all, the NL and AL have completely different rules. Having a DH changes the shape of the game a lot, so saying this team or that team would do well in whichever other league is silly. If the Pirates were in the AL, they would have a different team with better hitters (DH).Second of all, the Royals totally blow. I MIGHT take 50 to 1 that they finish .500 next year.
  19. Oh well, we can't win every year. We just didn't have the pitching to win, so time to look forward to next year.Cardinals over Angels in 6.
  20. '99 vs Cleveland, '03 vs Oakland, '04 vs NY Backs against the wall? No problem.
