  1. Perhaps I'm mistaken, but as I recall (if we're talking about the same hand) Tiffany Williamson took forever to decide whether to call all her chips with KJ, eventually ended up folding, and her opponent had AA. Am I correct? Because her only "mistake" during that hand was even considering a call. Your opponent must have meant, "I'm not gonna make the same mistake Tiffany Williamson almost did, I fold," but he got a little mixed up.
  2. Let me just say that this guy is the dumbest man in the entire world. Single table SNG, blinds 100/200. I have been playing tight, and just tripled up a baby stack with AA.I am in SB with AJ offsuit....I have 1360 chips, jeffsclimax2 is BB with 3890 chips. One limper, I go all-in, jeffsclimax2 calls, limper folds. He shows KT offsuit and I win. Now his play wasn't totally terrible, but still quite bad IMO, especially with limper still to act behind him.TimWakefield said, "yay"TimWakefield said, "what a ****in call"TimWakefield said, "KT, did you think that was good?"jeffsclimax2 said,
  3. I definitely don't think you have any fold equity. As for whether you should call if you know he has AK...there's an easy solution. I'm assuming you're playing to win and not just to place (although of course everybody would rather place than not). If you think that in general the players left in the tournament are better players than you, then call with your slight advantage, trying to build a stack that will protect you for awhile. If you think you are as good or better than the average player still remaining, fold, hang onto your big stack, and wait for better opportunities.Since, of co
  4. Your opponent has four outs on the flop, but if the turn doesn't help him (or give you quad nines) he has 7 outs on the turn. P.S. You're also drawing dead to T9.
  5. I'm also not getting married to the hand, but only because the flop is K77. Even UTG some people will open with hands like 55 or A9, so I think TT is a pretty strong holding. Only 4 hands beat you, and with a flop of 877 I'd be happy to bet.
  6. First you suggest he raises minimum, then you suggest 3x, then you suggest flat call. You also suggest he "may be able to fold" if his opponent comes over the top (i.e. goes all-in). Well would you or wouldn't you? The man asked for advice, not a rundown of possible choices. Also, a safe card on the turn in this situation is any 9TJQK non-heart. Sorry to be a jerk, but your post made me mad for some reason.I raise big on the flop. Your 4x BB at 15/30 could represent a number of different hands...in other words, your opponent probably doesn't read you for a big pair. The only reasonable
  7. If you got second of ten players, I can assume that you made at least triple or quadruple your starting stack, at least at some point. That seems pretty impossible if you literally never looked at any of your cards...how the hell can you even call one single bet?????? All you can do is bet, raise, or fold, AND if somebody happens to call you ever, you have random cards and they don't. Impossible, or else your opponents were stuffed animals.

  9. As everybody else has said, definitely your fault for not realizing you had the best hand. But when you realized what had happened, did you confront the dealer about it? You did announce that you held what was actually the winning hand, and while the dealer is only responsible for the best TABLED hand, if he was on the ball he could have asked you to show your hand. After confronting him, you could make a point of not tipping him all night, which might make you feel a little better. On a funny side note, I was in a hand at a home game, holding 98 with a flop of 987. Turn came X and river
  10. Doyle Brunson talks about this, but he is talking about tournaments. His point is simply that you shouldn't gamble too much of your stack to win a small pot. For example, you limp with AA, and nobody raises. Flop comes J73. Don't gamble your whole stack, because somebody probably has 33 or J7 if they are gambling THEIR whole stack in this unraised pot.Basically, it's okay to fold what you think could be the best hand if you will have to risk a large amount for a relatively small pot to find out.
  11. I don't think you can fold the turn or river. Even though you think it's quite likely that the turn helped him, you could be wrong...he could have the flopped straight (perhaps also with a straight-flush draw). And if the turn DID help him, he could have KJ, TT, or worse (although TT isn't too likely since he limped). I think folding is a bad move, even when he shows a winner, but clearly you made a good play by not raising. If he hadn't gone into his silly little speech, he'd have all your chips.Four hands beat you: AA, QQ, AJ, and QJ. He pretty much definitely doesn't have AA or QQ sin
  12. I'll agree, throughout the whole tournament I had been playing exactly how you describe here. this was directly afte rhand 1 and my explanation for it was simply that I paniced. after being ahead with a big stack alot fo the final tourney the outdraw kinda threw me off and made me think ive got to get bakc up quick! i saw the pocket pair and thought i could get it to fold around if I push as the table had been pretty tight, however obivously it didnt worked and i steamed off my chance at getting further in the tournament.chalk it up to inexperience at final tables id say. that and donkism. No,
  13. I agree, but I don't think you can play if you do that. Since you'll be making a handsome profit, and since there will be a lot of money lying around, you might consider being the tournament director...making sure everybody knows all the rules, keeping track of the cash, settling disputes, and maybe dealing final table.
  14. I wouldn't consider it "betting my life" since nobody will kill me if i'm wrong. Perhaps you mean I am betting my afterlife. Also though, it is far from certain that we will not discover life on other planets during our lifetimes. The SETI program, which searches for extra-terrestrial communications, has been operating for less than 50 years. Nobody can say what will be invented or discovered tomorrow. I'm not saying it's likely, but it's surely possible. Carbon is abundant on stars and most planets everywhere.Animals eat other forms of life, so if there is life, there is food.Oxygen is
  15. Not sure I see where taking out money to pay for drinks, snacks and an entry fee for the guy hosting and another for the guy offering supplies (tables, chips and such) is "raking" a game.An entry fee IS "raking a game." Taking money out for snacks is one thing. Taking an entry fee to compensate yourself for the trouble of hosting equals raking/profiting. I'm not saying it's morally wrong (seeing as how you cannot play a casino game without paying an entry fee/rake), but charging to cover the "expenses" of hosting/offering supplies is raking. If you need to buy chips, cards, tables, snacks,
  16. Don't take expenses from an entry fee. Figure out the expenses (chips and soda can't be more than $3-$5 per person) and charge that. Then decide if you want to charge an entry fee...I think 10% is pretty well accepted. But if you take an entry fee, you cannot play, since you are profiting off of the game already. Charging an entry fee which exactly covers your buy-in and 2 other buy-ins sounds fishy to me...either charge 10% and don't play (in which case you pocket around $500), or don't charge an entry fee past a few bucks for snacks.
  17. Blinds 50/100, i have about 1500 left, Dumbass has about 2500.I am BB. UTG raises to 300, Dumbass calls, I call with AJ. Flop comes A35 rainbow, I check, UTG checks, Dumbass bets 300, I raise all-in, UTG folds and Dumbass calls and shows K4 and loses. Me: ThanksDumbass: Whatever, I was on a draw, I knew you had an ace.
  18. Not at all tryin to say anything bad about u tim so dont take it the wrong way. there people out there who would have u beleive that christians are all raving lunetics. That christians dont believe in science and that we dismiss all these things b/c they might disprove the Bible. Are there people out there? sure...When i hear stuff Pat Robertson has said i laugh and wonder how somebody can think that nonsense. To answer your questions Tim...My honest answer is I dont know. It is well established all the exact requirements that were necessary for us to exist where so numerous that it is a large
  19. Mattnxtc - do you believe that life exists or can exist on other planets in other solar systems?
  20. If by "we" you mean yourself, and by "know" you mean mistakenly believe, then you are right on the money. An educated man cannot deny Darwinism except by a refusal to attempt to understand it.Saying "we know that darwin was wrong" is hardly different than saying "we know that galileo was wrong." It makes you sound uneducated. Okay, first I am having trouble responding to this because I have never before seen a number with a space in it. I'll assume that's a typo, and you meant 104 million etc. Now I'll address the real problem with your response. Think of it this way: IT DID ****ING HAPPE
  21. goldA little addition: I waz at a home-game at this guy's house tonight...house rules allow wraparound straights. Thankfully nobody hit one all night...but at one point a guy was calling down with K2 and a board of QJxxx. I asked him what he was doing in the hand, and he reminded me of his inside wraparound straight draw. "I was looking for an ace for the wraparound." Hehehehe. I came in first.
  22. At a home game last week: "Are we playing with wraparound straights?"
