It seems like there's no way he's gonna finish them by the time the show is fully caught up unless they start adding a ton of storylines that aren't in the books at all. The Winds of Winter is supposedly coming out next year (maybe, or then again maybe not), and I doubt the final book after that is gonna go very quickly since he's gonna want it to be totally perfect if it's actually the final one. Book 3 spoilers:

Yeah but what was the point in having Bran and them get captured and subsequently freed right under Jon's nose? That also didn't happen in the book (at least not through book 3), and I don't see how it advanced the plot at all. Or at least, it didn't add anything to have Jon just miss them, and it seemed pretty unlikely for him to not figure it out.

Pretty mediocre episode, it was dumb that Jon and Bran didn't meet up, but it was rad when Jon pushed his sword through that dude's face. Looking forward to ::BOOK SPOILERS::

New episode was great. I really like the female cop, and Bob Odenkirk is great too, and Billy Bob and Freeman and Carradine and Platt and Goldberg and his deaf partner. Even Colin Hanks is fine. The whole thing is great. If I had 2 criticisms: - I can't really buy Dennis from It's Always Sunny. He's too ridiculous, but that might just be because I know him from It's Always Sunny. - I don't like how it says 'Out of respect for the dead the rest is presented exactly as it happened' or whatever, because it's clearly not exact. It can't possibly be, not because it's too ridiculous bu

Brad Pitt rumors still floating but not even close to confirmed. As far as what season 2 might be like: Nic Pizzolatto: Okay. This is really early, but I'll tell you (it's about) hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system. Here's the rest of the interview (which is all about season 1, not 2): http://www.hitfix.co...n-1/single-page Also, Sherlock is fantastic. I haven't watched season 3 yet but I'm excited to. Cumberbatch is obviously a knockout but Martin Freeman has also now starred in 3 of the best tv shows of all time (The

Pineda just got ejected for having pinetar on his neck, after there was a whole big deal in the media about him having it on his hand and arm in his last start against the Sox a couple weeks ago.

I had it third, and everybody else is simply wrong. EDIT: Actually fraut hasn't seen it so brv is the only one who had it lower than 3rd. -

Here's the list of major acting award nominations it's gotten. Random Entertainment Observations

Have we already had a thread or discussion where we ranked Anderson's movies? I haven't seen the newest one yet but here's my list: The Royal Tenenbaums Rushmore The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou Fantastic Mr. Fox Bottle Rocket Moonrise Kingdom The Darjeeling Limited (edited in some empty spaces to show tiers, because I liked the way fraut did it) -

I really liked Fargo, but I couldn't help but constantly think about Steve Buscemi and Frances McDormand and particularly William H. "the heck d'ya mean" Macy. Hopefully as the show goes on I'll be able to think of it more as its own thing. I also just don't really like Billy Bob, but he is pretty good in this. I do really like Martin Freeman and obviously Bob Odenkirk, who I'd forgotten was in it til he showed up. -
That's true. I think I just didn't love this week's episode, and Arya is getting pretty cheesy too (not this week so much). Prince Oberyn is sufficiently awesome though.

MILD BOOK DISCUSSION BUT ZERO SPOILERS: I finally finished the third book. I can't tell how much is because I've been reading the books (this is probably most of it) and how much is because the show is faltering, but this most recent episode was pretty disappointing. A lot of it felt cheesy, especially the final scene with Dany. Essentially the exact same scene happens in the book, and it's a lot more tense and believable. Because I read those scenes so recently I can't help but notice small differences. Like when Podrick Payne was leaving Tyrion for presumably the final time, in

Thanks for the rec. I just started a really cool science fiction book by Alfred Bester and then started finding all this other cool sci-fi that I've heard of but have never read, so I might put fantasy on hold for awhile but I'll definitely check it out eventually. Y'all convinced to give up on the first book of Wheel of Time - not too excited to read something that's just gonna get worse and worse.

Huh, well good to know, I was hoping that if I liked book 1 I had a lifetime of it ahead if I wanted. Also I didn't even pay for it, I pirated the ebook. I'm not a big fan of ebooks and I'm also not as big a fan of pirating ebooks as I am of pirating music since selling books are an author's main revenue stream and they don't often get rich, but he's dead so I don't feel bad.

Well shit, I think I did ask you just in time. I'm literally still 50 pages into book one, so crisis averted (although I may still give just book 1 a go, since I have it). Are there any other worthwhile series like GoT? This year is my first time really reading anything in the genre.
-
Have any of you guys read any of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series? I've seen it recommended as another excellent fantasy series, and reading GoT while also watching it was a bit overkill for me so I decided to check it out. I'm only 50 pages into the first book (of 14...) but it's great. I really have no idea where it's headed or what it's gonna be like in the long run, but so far it's fun and intriguing. It seems to have a bit more magic than GrrM and I'm hoping it doesn't get cheesy or silly like Lord of the Rings with elves and wizards and nonsense. Not that Tolkien sucks, but he c

Did they let you keep the winnings? As I understood it casinos let you keep your winnings even if you're accused of card counting at BJ, since it can't be proven and it's not really cheating unless you are also colluding with other players at the table. They can of course kick you out and say you're never welcome back, but I didn't think they could keep your winnings unless they can prove something more than just having a brilliant memory. But maybe I'm wrong.

"Imp-licated" is pretty good.

They didn't even get to Theon and Yara last week. Pretty excellent episode, although I was hoping we'd jump straight into the wedding. I got sick of the audiobook and swapped it for a normal book, but got bored of that too. I'm sure I'll pick it up again in a few days, but I've only read up to about the Red Wedding in book 3, so my plan of getting ahead of the show didn't work out and I still don't know what's gonna happen.

Cubans? Oh wait, I get it. I've seen The Birdcage. Seriously though I rewatched it recently and it completely holds up and is hilarious. If you haven't seen it in 18 years you might forget how amazing Hank Azaria is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhePEs4IL8w

What Is The Last Movie You Saw?
timwakefield replied to Alter-Ego's topic in Entertainment: Television, Movies & Music
He did get nominated for supporting actor! but nobody was gonna beat Jared Leto. Not that Leto was necessarily any better (although he was very good and maybe he was better), but more that Leto played a lovable and "important" and feel-good-tearjerker role. But a nomination is still a big deal for Fassbender. -
Barring injury he's the closer all year no question, and you should definitely take him if it's a deal you like. Without hyperbole he's the best closer the Red Sox have ever had, and last season put up one of the greatest seasons of any closer in history*. He's always been very good (although I'd never heard of him), but he's either figured something out or he's just in one hell of a groove, or both I guess. He's throwing more splitters and less fastballs than he used to, but that's really the only change I'm sure of. He's 39 (birthday today!) but doesn't rely on high velocity and
