  2. Well,I guess I can play poker.I entered in a $1.10 - 2000 guaranteed prize pool tournament on PokerStars. There were 4113 entries and I finished 35th.I made one mistake and I will post the hand tonight when I get home for you to view and see what you guys think of my play. I was about 5th in chips at the time. I lost 3/4 of my chips on this hand and couldn't recover to get back in the game.I ended up all-in with J's and was busted by A's.Very please with this result. It's 1% of the total entries and felt I played very well over the time. Was my longest time playing in one sitting so I think I lost my concentration for this one hand and made this big mistake. Thanks to everyone here that help me by reading some of my HH and giving the advice.gpineo

  3. Well....My first SnG was a 9 player 1.20 and I placed 2nd. Lost on the final hand, chips were even and I had AJ. Other guy was on the button. He called I raised approx 4x bb and he re-raised me all-in. Instanta call and he showed 6To. Flop hit his 6 and I never caught up.Oh well pleased with my play don't think I did anything wrong in the final hand it's Poker.More updates on my progress.gpineo

  4. Well all this advice and what to do :club: I think what I would like to do is concentrate on the game that I feel comfortable with. What I am going to do is play SNG's & MTT mostly and then play a couple session a week in Cash Games to just mix things up.I have been running Poker Tracker on Trial basis and I looked at the figures and I am having better success in the SNG's then the Cash Games so I think that tell me something right there.I don't want to stop getting the advice from you Cash players at all cause I eventually want to improve that part of my game also. What advice do I need to know for SNG's or MTT.Something that I noticed in the few sessions that I play was I get blinded down quickly playing a tight aggressive game. If I am card dead my chip stack doesn't increase cause I am trying to play solid hands in position. I think that's the first part of my play I need to understand and how to fix. I am playing less then 25% of the hands. Not sure if there is anything else right now I can recall but I look forward to your comments.Tks.gpineo

  5. Nosoul, Sen-Eh & Jmbreslin,The comments are good but now I am getting conflicting information. I know each person has there own opinion and I respect that.My issue here is three fold.1.) Learning the correct fundamentals to improve my game.2.) Learing the proper pre & post flop play.3.) After applying 1 & 2 to increase my bankroll from micro and work my way up to playing bigger limits. So which of the three game types (cash, tournaments, sng's) will help with those three points. To let you know in the past two nights I have played 360 Player SnG for 0.10 cents and I have placed 32nd & 18th.So I think I am working my way toward 1 & 2 but 3 is more difficult to accomplish at only getting 0.20 & 0.40 cents for those two SnG's.Thoughts?gpineo

  6. Keep in mind that tourney poker and cash poker are different kettles of fish. I'd suggest sticking with one until you're more confident in your game. For someone in your situation there are a couple of advantages to sticking with tourney poker:1) you can learn the game with limited risk2) there is a ton of literature on tourney poker, especially single-table SnGsIf I were you I would pick one game and really work on that one game. Then you can branch out and adapt your skills to different contexts.
Tks for the advice,I was wondering that same piece of advice. I want to increase my bankroll but I don't want to lose it either and if I am playing 10 cent 360 player SnG's I won't be losing much and gaining tons of hand time and also experience. But there isn't much bankroll increase to this format. If I go cash game I can still get my hand and also experience but I could also win/lose an amount more then one buyin to a SnG.Not sure which one I would like to put my time into. At my home game we only play tournaments but when I go the Casino (not often) I play 1/2 NL. So I think I am answering my own question actually eh?Tks.
  7. Mentors,I think this post is helping my game.Last night I played in a 360 player $0.10 NL SnG and finished 32th. I think that is the best I have finished in a tournament that size. I ended up in the money :club: I applied the suggestions and was very patient and played positional poker. What I see now is that I might be getting to patient and I am getting blinded out waiting for the premium cards in position and then I have to make a move to stay alive. I seem to be blow average stack most of the tournament. Because I am only playing premium hands I am basically getting what I call card dead. I can't be playing 52o or 84o in or out of position for example. So is there another approach to Tight/Aggressive poker so that I don't get blinded out when I am card dead. Or do I open up my starting hands a bit more?In the first few pages of SuperSystem2 - NL-Holdem section Doyle talks about this (don't have book here for the exact quote) and how not to end up blinded out.Any suggestions.gpineo.

  8. Got some bad news.I am down 3.54 tonight and I am not please with my results and play.Thought I was playing well but got into situations that I had to make decisions and I think I made the incorrect choices.Played less then 25% of my hands and I was trying to be agressive when I had good starting hands. But I think I was playing again out of position.Have included my HH again. I would like to pick some hand that I think I am not sure of but the whole session was not good.I know that my bad habits won't go away in three sessions so more practice is required.Any thought about what I did wrong would be appreciated. Not please I think I played ok but the results don't show. :club:

  9. Just another thought on this. There are going to be times where you will go days and days without winning money even if you are playing GREAT poker. Just keep this in mind cause i know its frustrating. I've only started playing seriously about 6 months ago and have already had a 15 buyin downswing and have had a 15k breakeven stretch and i've only played about 100k hands. If this happens to you it might take weeks/months for variance to catch up with you. All you can do at that point is post the hands you have questions with and see if its just variance of if there is something you could have done better.
Yes I am expecting there is going to be ups and downs but I am trying to stop playing stupid poker and make more ups then downs. And the advice everyone have given me here so far I hope I can apply to make there more ups and I can eventually say thanks to everyone by applying the instructions and advice to success with my poker game.Once I get solid enough that I know my fundamentals are sound and I am playing proper poker I will for sure post hands that I am not sure if I was correctly executing.gp.
  10. Another piece of feedback: if you're going to play cash games, you need to play far more than 50 hands in a session. You can't expect to do well if you're only sitting down for 45 minutes. Cash poker takes a lot of patience. Short sessions might be one of your problems.
jmbreslin,Well I am aware that it's only 50 hands of play. At this point I am trying to apply what has been instruction and see what works for me and get feedback from my play each session I have.Is the saying "You have to walk before you can run" Well I was in an accident and I have to learn how to walk again :club: Thanks for the feedback I will make longer sessions once I feel I have the concepts and methodology down that I am not making stupid plays in the wrong positions.
  11. Sens-EhThat is great feedback and I will definently take a read of this a few times and try to apply what you are instructing.I was actually reading it while I played tonights session and tried to apply some of your suggestions.I will take feedback like this anyday. Thanks and I look forward to future feedback.

  12. Another Session Update - 03/11/09During current Hold'em session you were dealt 50 hands and saw flop: - 6 out of 7 times while in big blind (85%) - 1 out of 7 times while in small blind (14%) - 6 out of 36 times in other positions (16%) - a total of 13 out of 50 (26%) Pots won at showdown - 1 of 1 (100%) Pots won without showdown - 8PokerTracker on my session of 50 hands.VP: 16 / PR: 12 / AF: 14.0Buyin 5.00 - Cashout 6.14. - 1.14.I think this is working what you have been teaching me fellow posters (Teachers). I played even more tighter tonight and was also focusing on position. I will include the hand history again as an attachment.During this session I had one hand I wasn't completely sure of what I should do. Here is the single hand history. I know I played it wrong but not exactly sure what I should have done.PokerStars Game #25865871623: Hold'em No Limit ($0.01/$0.02) - 2009/03/11 20:54:14 MT [2009/03/11 22:54:14 ET]Table 'Parvulesco II' 9-max Seat #2 is the buttonSeat 1: gbcjb1975 ($1.58 in chips)Seat 2: sibianul ($6.49 in chips)Seat 3: cmdmac ($1.84 in chips)Seat 4: synthmessc ($4.99 in chips)Seat 5: Quikone007 ($5.02 in chips)Seat 6: marta1985 ($3.97 in chips)Seat 7: txintxor ($2.45 in chips)Seat 8: gpineo ($5.40 in chips)Seat 9: Aeistmer ($0.98 in chips)cmdmac: posts small blind $0.01synthmessc: posts big blind $0.02*** HOLE CARDS ***Dealt to gpineo [3h 3c]Quikone007: foldsmarta1985: foldstxintxor: foldsgpineo: calls $0.02Aeistmer: foldsgbcjb1975: foldssibianul: foldscmdmac: foldssynthmessc: checks*** FLOP *** [2d 5d Ad]synthmessc: bets $0.04gpineo: foldsUncalled bet ($0.04) returned to synthmesscsynthmessc collected $0.05 from potsynthmessc: doesn't show hand*** SUMMARY ***Total pot $0.05 | Rake $0Board [2d 5d Ad]Seat 1: gbcjb1975 folded before Flop (didn't bet)Seat 2: sibianul (button) folded before Flop (didn't bet)Seat 3: cmdmac (small blind) folded before FlopSeat 4: synthmessc (big blind) collected ($0.05)Seat 5: Quikone007 folded before Flop (didn't bet)Seat 6: marta1985 folded before Flop (didn't bet)Seat 7: txintxor folded before Flop (didn't bet)Seat 8: gpineo folded on the FlopSeat 9: Aeistmer folded before Flop (didn't bet)Other then that had I feel I played fairly well but I bet I had some areas that I still need improvement and refining.I look forward to your comments. 13. Start throwing out some of the hands you play because 42% is way to much. Playing 42% is not profitable at all. Just by the stats I would assume you are only raising good hands and limping with about anything suited or maybe even any connectors. I would suggest finding a good book/article on position poker and study that. It will help you to understand when it is best to just call based on position or raise on position. It will also give you a great idea what should be required to be folded based on position also. I think being able to fold around 20% to 25% of the hands you play(Assuming 42% is about the average number you play) will make you more profitable in the longer run easily.
Those stats you have presented Cloverstorm were stats before lastnight. I have taken the advice of other poster on my subject and tried to apply them last night. If you read the previous reply you can see the improvement. Yes I know it's only one session but I think I have taken the advice and tried to apply it to my game and I think coming out a winner is a good thing. Now all I have to do is become consistent on my play from the advice and I will become a winning game. You suggested good books/articles. Would you have any examples that I should look into? Thanks
  14. Ok everyone who has given me great comments on my HH.Here is tonights stats.During current Hold'em session you were dealt 56 hands and saw flop: - 4 out of 6 times while in big blind (66%) - 0 out of 6 times while in small blind (0%) - 10 out of 44 times in other positions (22%) - a total of 14 out of 56 (25%) Pots won at showdown - 3 of 3 (100%) Pots won without showdown - 6I played 0.01/0.02 NL Cash Game on PokerStars. My buy-in was 5.00 and finished the session with 6.60. :club: I had PokerTracker loaded and running for the whole session but not sure what I should post here for you to view how I played tonight.I felt very good about my play. I was agressive and got paid for my good cards.Let me know what I should pull from PokerTracker and I will post it later. Thanks to all of you that has helped. I know it's only one session but I think I have figured out what I might be doing wrong.Because I haven't figured out how to post Pokertracker HH I will again post a txt file from PokerStars HH request.

    PokerStars_50_Hand_History_031009.txt

  15. You don't beat the micros by folding in tough positions. You valuebet, and i would snapcall in the example you gave at the micros. If he sucked out on the river so be it but A2 is more likely than clubs IMO.Max buyin is $5 on stars @ .01/.02. Buyin for $5As for not putting out money because you are losing it. Pokertracker or HEM is a program. Think of it as an investment to help you become better. You can use it for the rest of your life once you buy it. It really is a must. From the way it sounds is you need the fundamentals down. There is so much information out there (like the 6max guide i linked before) Also sign up for a free account here and watch the beginner videos http://www.pokertrikz.comIf you want to get better at poker you need to put in a LOT of effort. Nobody here can tell you how to win because at this point you are probably playing every hand your dealt incorrectly. Read the 6max guide, watch the free videos at pokertrikz.. take notes about starting hands you should be playing from which positions. Stop limping KK preflop :club: (or any hand)Once you get the basics down and you are playing a less fishy game then start posting hands in the forum (this is why you need pokertracker or HEM so you can go through all the hands you've won/lost and analyze them or post them for others to help you analyze) You can't just post every hand you played for an hour, You need to post hands where you think you may have made a mistake/made a bad call/made a bad raise or bluff. stuff like that.
The reason I posted all those 50 hands is at this time I have no clue where I am going wrong. I would like to purchase Pokertracker or HEM but I am not sure from the sites if and what they do. I have heard they are actually cheating tools is that true? If I was making hundreds a day playing poker it might be something I would think about. But at this time I am losing more then I am putting in. I wish there was a way to trial it and see if it does help my game and then purchase. I have also seen that it's a year membership for some. Your saying they are one time purchases? But back to my improving of my game. I will take your suggestions and look over them tonight and become members at those sites.
  16. Typically, bb stands for big blind and BB stands for big bet. If you're asking about NL, you can usually just assume we're talking about blinds. I would recommend buying in for 100bb ($2) as it allows for postflop play so that you can develop your game. Playing with a 20bb stack means all of your money is usually going in preflop or on the flop.------------------------------------------The reason I remember for limping in with KK was table play. Anyone that raised didn't get any callers cause they all folded. I was trying to get value and it backfired.OK, here's where we have to start making adjustments. If the table is folding to open raises too much, what should our automatic adjustment be?Raise more hands from late position. If we often just steal the blinds with an open raise, open up your range. Honestly, at these stakes though, you should just find a new table. There should be a bunch of super soft tables and we will make more money by exploiting the passive players than the nits.
I have been buyin in each table for $5.00 so I will from now just buyin for 2 bucks as suggested.I find that most of the micro value tables that I am playing are either aggressive or just tight. As mentioned by Kendren to do the opposite but I have tried without success. Not sure what's wrong but when I do I seem to come out on the wrong end.I am going to play tonight and make these adjustments. I will then post the HH for viewing after my session of 50 hands tonight.I normally only play one table so I can concentrate on reading the table and reading the board. I am trying to figure out what possible hand are the nuts etc. With the betting patterns which I am still learning how to sniff out I try to figure out if my hand has value or should I dump it. But from what everyone has been saying I still have a long way to go with fundamentals of the game.If that's the case where should I start? If I have to go back to the beginning to make myself a better player I will. I have a hand value sheet that I have put away but I will bring that out again also.To be honest. I am at work thinking about poker and what I did the night before wondering why I lost more money.Wanting to improve.
  17. BB = big blind/sOften used to calculate bet sizes etc, not depending on what stakes you play.Eg: he raised 3 times the BB from early position
I thought kkot was mentioning a buyin of 20-25bb. So if I am playing 0.01/0.02 and I am not sure if that'sBig Bets or Big Blinds. What would be a good buyin for a micro table of 0.01/0.02?My goal is to increase my level when I reach $150 bucks playing 0.01/0.02. I am at 49 bucks now.Actually what I was trying to do is Daniel's 10 - 100k challenge but it don't work out. I lost the $10.00 before I could get going. So all the help is welcome.
  18. This is just ridiculous. You aren't destined to be anything. You can always take actions toward a change and OP has started this by making this post. ----------------------------------------------gpineo, just by looking at the first hand from that file I can tell that you have some serious fundamental flaws in your game. Just off the top of my head right nowEither buy in for more than 20-25bb or learn how to shortstackMinraising preflop is usually pretty bad. Especially with KK with a limper in front. We need to get value from our big hands, so let's build a pot nowYou are playing too many poor handsTry isolating limpers instead of limping behindAs pokerinc said, try reading the NL forum and if you have a questions regarding anything in the thread, ask. A lot of the guys here are really smart and don't mind helping others out.
kkot,Thanks for your comments any help right now is appreciated.Ok I get confused here when you talk about buyin for 20-25bb are you talking Big Bets or Big Blinds. So if I am playing 0.01/0.02 so I am confused on how much you mean I should buyin with. Can you explain that concept. The reason I remember for limping in with KK was table play. Anyone that raised didn't get any callers cause they all folded. I was trying to get value and it backfired.I appreciated everyone's help. I am looking forward to using everyone's experience to help me become that better player. I know a lot of people use HUBs etc but I don't really want to put out money right now when I am only losing it. So if I can get my actual fundamentals down and see profit I will go that route of using Odds Calculators etc.Looking for more suggestions and help. I will be looking at the videos suggested by regionX8 and will read more threads on FCP. Any suggestions on particular threads I should be viewing? Thanks for all your help so far from those that have posted meaningful posts.
  19. Not stats, post an actual hand that you feel like you got lost on or didn't play well. We can't just say blanket statements that will make you a winner, but if you start posting hands where you made mistakes or feel like you did, you can learn from those specifics and apply them to your game.I have to say though, it seems like you're not taking full advantage of these boards if you've been here since '05 and aren't familiar with the different stat programs on the market.Go click on NL strat right now and read through every thread. See if it helps.
I have pulled some stats from my last 100 hands on PokerStars. I also have hand history from cash games.100 hands played and saw flop: - 10 times out of 13 while in small blind (77%) - 11 times out of 13 while in big blind (85%) - 21 times out of 74 in other positions (28%) - a total of 42 times out of 100 (42%) Pots won at showdown - 3 out of 11 (27%) Pots won without showdown - 11I have also included at Txt file with my last 50 hands. Some in the cash games and some from tournaments. My game handle was gpineo.Thanks.

  20. post hands that confuse you in strat, this is too vague to answer. There's no one sentence to plug all your leaks.
As mentioned I have never gone to the point of posting stats. If I was to do this what program would I use? I understand it's very vague in my explaination and it's hard to answer in one sentence.I guess I am looking for guidence and maybe play some Play Money games on PokerStars that you can see how I am playing.Tks.
  21. not trying to rain on your parade but maybe , just maybe , you are one of the players that is destined to be the loser.after 4yrs and you are still on micro tables then i would think you are just going to be one of those players whom everyone is calling a fish , or a donk. poker has to have them in order to sustain itself, consider that your role and be happy you are contributing to the pokercommunity in your own waypost some hand historys in strat and see what weakness is pointed out ,
Well..... I have been on here since 2005 and now I know why I don't post. I was looking for some advice not insults.I have been playing with out any assistance programs I have read about on here. So I don't have any way of posting any hands history.I was looking for some dialog to see if I can figure out my faults. I am not a Fish or a Donk. I know how to play the game but I know I am doing something wrong and I was hoping for some suggestions. Again not insults.
