  1. what they said...So did he turn or river the boat with his JJ?
  2. LOL. I hate poker too. I'm not even comfortable leading in an 80/20 situation. Yeah sure, sites aren't 'rigged', but I'd still like to see the numbers crunched showing a leading hand w/ shortstack push vs. inferior hand calling w/ bigger stack. Race or no race, the bigger stack always seems to win and KO the little guy. fact. ;-)
  3. uh, I think both the "binion" AND the "horse shoe" have single deck blackjack. However, it's real hard to choose between them. Ask a local which one to go to depending on the day of the week. New York New York also has single deck BJ, fyi.Good luck losing your roll.P
  4. Try to chip up a little more in the middle stages so you can start pushing low stacks around when it gets to that point. Plus, you'll still have a chance if a lower stack doubles through you. See who's playing tentative and trying to cash, and steal from them, but beware of traps if you stick your hand in the cookie jar too frequently.Or play the non-turbo 27 ppl SnGs if you have the time.
  5. good one ;-)true story: years back I played in a local tourney and some dude ended up with all his chips in the middle after the river. He flips his hand over, proclaims "I got the straight!" and went to scoop the chips until we realized he was playing KA234. Heh heh heh, not so fast there big fella, but please feel free to come back next month ;-)
  6. i think it's a shame the author failed to use the term "Mother Hubbard" once in that article ;-)
  7. Maurice Clarett and plenty of conjecture?------------------------------------------------Point well taken. There is no denying UM has nearly reached "John Cooper" status the last few years. Also, I am very happy that Michigan and it's tired brand of football will get some updating, and hopefully bring it's integrity and tradition with it as it joins the rest of the country in the 21st Century.ok, I'm out, Merry Christmas everybody. I hope Santa brings that Royal Flush just like you asked! P
  8. ahhhh yes. Tressel. ahem. Cheaters are not allowed at Michigan home games, but thanks for the tip-top advice. P
  9. (also posted mistakenly in General Strategy)I'm coming into Vegas for, ahem, a business meeting this week. I land Tuesday about 5pm and fly out Wed afternoon. I only have time to hit the tables Tuesday evening. I'm primarily a tournament / SnG player, and have $200 to spend. That's only 1 buy in at a $1/$2 NL cash table so that's not my optimum choice. I've scoured allvegaspoker.com and came up with these three tourney choices. Does anyone have any input regarding any of these games, or should I just hit the SnGs at Mirage or MGM Grand? Consider I'll be in Eastern Time mode and I do have a mee

  11. call. Watch your AA lose to K3o lose to K9s. See 3 hit on river. Then play the next one. Unless you'd still have over $1K if you fold - then fold.
  12. Not really. I was just wondering if I was 'the jerk' in that situation. The guy is my best friend. He gets a little tentative sometimes because he doesn't always do so well in the "win money at poker" column and sometimes feels like his losses are compounded by people pulling fast ones over on him. (not true, I would never cheat my friends, or anyone, at poker) I think he was upset because he was gonna lose the hand and wanted some other excuse than his poor play to blame in that situation. We determined at the time that there was no 'infraction', and I made a mental note not to hurt hi
  13. Home game SnG. I'm in a pot w/ one player on my right. Flop hits, he checks, I bet, he calls. No problem there. Here's where it gets interesting.Turn comes. He is thinking for a short time and counting chips. Before he acts, I ask out loud "How many chips do you have over there?"apparently there was some controversy whether I was acting out of turn or not by asking that question. I had a real good feeling that I could get him to fold to any bet if I asked the question at that point. He ended up checking, then I made a bet and he folded the hand (like I hoped for). Was I out of line?P
  14. I play in games of similar situation. T3500, 15 min blinds that double (yes: double) each time. Thankfully they know about the 'string betting' rule. It used to drive me bonkers until I got over myself and my vastly superior book learnt skillz ;-) Once I started having more fun, and stopped complaining about folks calling raises w/ Q9o, I started doing much better too. Basically, I see flops cheap w/ playable hands, and bet the nuts hard. I rarely bluff until it's down to 7 or less actually bluffable players. Once you figure out who plays like how, you can get them to fold or pay you off.
  15. I thought Jeff Ament was the bass player in Pearl Jam.
  16. go play the Heartland Poker Tour event in Traverse CIty, MI this spring. It looks like it's only 18 min age. Call to verify.http://www.heartlandpokertour.com/
  17. Advice? Don't go on TV. But if you must:Keep in mind that poker rooms are illegal for several reasons. Make sure you know what those reasons are. Think about what would happen if the great State of Indiana granted a license to anyone that wanted to run a gaming house.Don't go on tv looking like a whiner who's only point is "the dummies in the world play the lottery which is legal, and that's WAY -EV than poker which is a game of skill. A skill only me and a few other people posess, so you, the general public, would never understand anyway."Pointing out that cops play there probably won't
  18. Know where you want to be in 5 years. (seriously)Don't wear wrap-around shades and a ball cap pulled low so they can't get a read on you. Don't tell bad beat stories as 'character defining' moments.Local Dealers are not good References.Remove the line "Will Play Heads Up Upon Request" from your Resume.Free Daily Lunch Buffet tickets are no substitute for good health coverage.Ask for a yearly salary plus overtime, Do not say you want to make 2BB/hr plus with an optional straddle.Pay periods are measured in weeks, not "Buttons".You have meetings with "clients", not "the Floor".Good Luck
  19. Items to consider:People who get medical and dental benefits these days are really lucky. $11/hr kinda blows, and so do the hours your friend is working. I got laid off last fall and am much happier not working there.(because I hated the boss and got paid poorly, but I really want to get back to work)But if your buddy thinks he can do it and wants to do it, then go for it. Make sure he's got the confidence and mindset for it, because a half-azz attempt won't cut it.Good Luck
  20. Cool, thanks for the heads up. I wonder if they've got a spot for an unemployed architect w/ a (seemingly) worthless Master's degree. On that note, does anyone in Denver or Las Vegas know any architects hiring? my unemployment checks dry up in April.
  21. Don't forget to mention the "if I withdraw any money, I get cold decked and lose the rest of my bankroll on bad beats" part.
  22. will you please visit Ankor Wat for me? I've always wanted to go there, but haven't had the chance yet.
  23. First night in year long league. We play monthly tournaments w/ part of the prize pool going to the championship event at the end of the year. Top 10 in points qualify. You get a point each month for everyone you outlast, starting with 1 point for the first one out. What would you do in this situation?and how do you think I played it:5 players left, 4 pay tonight. I have about 13K in chips, other big stack is about even w/ me. 2 stacks ~7K, 1 short stack below 3k. Blinds are 800/1600. Play has been weak/tight around the table w/ very low M's all around.I'm in the big blind w/ Ac3d. Folds
