  1. Don't forget in that example there is another desperate short stack with less chips than you have who has already folded. His point is that you're really playing against that short stack, not the big, bully stack pushing you around. Winning that hand with the TT and doubling up doesn't gain enough equity to take the chance. You're better off waiting until you're able to open a pot.The other examples have smaller stacks at your table but an equal or larger stack raising all your chips. He's saying you should play to get in the money and play against the small stacks.
  2. I think the only way you're getting away is if you bet on the flop and he raised pretty big. If I was holding that 4 I'd put a solid raise out there.
  3. good point about the aces. I need to pay more attention to possition short stacked, too.you know what I think the biggest difference has been between winning and losing the last couple months? heads-up play. I'm not winning heads up like I used to. And it only takes a couple 2nds that used to be 1sts to turn profit into debt.i think i've been too aggressive HU. Is that possible? I'll plunk a lot of small pots because I'm always betting. Then I'll hit an open ended straight draw, bet, and end up losing to a pair. this happens to me a lot. missed draws kill me heads up.

  6. I've actually gone from 31.36% DOWN to 26.87%. i clearly have a good read on own game............You think that change is enough to make a difference? looking at month to month, I only make money if I finish ITM 40%+. I'm sitting around 36% during my little losing streak.
  7. How about pushing with hands that aren't dominated so easily? A2-A8 don't do me a whole lot of good, usually, because people really really really like calling with an Ace in their hand. Maybe I should forget low Aces and push with connectors (I already do if they're suited). Even Kings and Queens seem like they'd do better. I mean K6, Q6 and A6 are the same odds against 55 or 77, but quite a bit different against a higher A, right?
  8. so i should be pushing with even more hands. not what I wanted to hear, Hobbs! There's just no room to miss a hand in these tournaments. You only start with 1500. Breaking even over the first 7 rounds (36 minutes) lands you at an M of 9. You're pretty committed with any raise you put out there at that point.
  9. I'm looking for problems and feel i'm becoming looser than I used to be but not playing differently after the flop. Are there any Poker Tracker numbers I can give from the last couple thousand hands where you can tell if I'm playing too loose? I want to play solid Tight Agressive.
  10. I haven't been winning lately and i think I could do better when short stacked. I play mostly low buy in 9 person SNGs. What's a good M to push with? I play pretty solid TAG (although I feel I've badly been slipping into LAG but that's another post) so I don't see a lot of flops. If I lose just a couple hands I'm down to an M around 5 pretty fast. For example: blinds are 60/120. 6 people left. I have 900. M is 5. If nobody's entered before me I'm pushing with any A8+, any pair, KQ+. Too loose? Can I wait for better? A lot of the time I'll take a blind, find 66 two hands later with o
  11. QQ, KK, AA seem very possible to me. That's how I would have played them ...

    It feels like a lot of those 1st place finishes have turned into 2nds and even 3rds. I play pretty tight and only once in a while have a big lead. Heads up has felt much more difficult than it used to. I'm usually 2/3rds behind the leader at heads up.$51 - 23%2 - 17%3 - 9%4 - 10%5 - 10%6 - 11%7 - 6%8 - 2%9 - 8%$101 - 11%2 - 16$3 - 13%4 - 16%5 - 12%6 - 7%7 - 7%8 - 6%9 - 10%Actually a lot of 1sts have turned to 3rds and 4ths. Looks like I need to be more agressive around the bubble, eh? Most of the time m M is low enough at the bubble that if I try a steal and get caught I'm looking for a c

I started playing online last August. I started out playing $5 SNGs and moved up to $10. Here are my PT numbers:$5.00 102 tournys ROI% -54 fin in $$ - 50% avg fin - 3.86$10.00 163 tournys ROI% - 6.9 fin in $$ - 40% avg fin - 4.47That feels like a much bigger swing than the difference in skill between 5s and 10s. most of the $5 tourneys were in my first 2 months. Then I leveled off, had a good November with $10s and have been stagnet ever since. Was I just on a good run and should expect ROI to be around 10%? feels low. things haven't been going my way the last few months. Th
  14. Fold. His all-in is a good move. AQ is a terrible calling hand. What are you hoping he has? AJ or A10? KQ? AK is only good for a raise because a lot of the time the worst case is a coin toss. AQ is a good step below that. You can wait for a better chance.
  15. this is the crap i always end up losing on. If someone else had posted this I would have said the pre-flop mini was a mistake. I know this. But there I am in the situation and think, "I'll just do it this once ... it'll be fine ... I'll pick up the blinds." and i'm out of the tournament. Learning this stuff and talking about it is one thing but it really takes disipline to put it into practice enough to win consistantly.my "roll" has been stagnant for two months now and I'd really like to get back to winning.
  16. yeah, i know better than that preflop.I ended up pushing all in to get the 3rd player to fold a hand that might have me beat. didn't work at all. they both called, showing JJ and 1010. JJ held up.
  17. good point. situation I saw today: guy mini raised pre-flop. I called from BB with A2d. 2 diamonds on the flop. he mini bets, call ahead of me, I call. turn is blank. he mini bets, call ahead of me, I call. last card not a diamond. he bets the pot, we both fold, he shows 2 pair. that was nice of him to let me draw twice to the nut flush but I never got another good oppertunity against him. should I start playing looser to look for big draws? I tightened up hoping to hit solid and he'd pay me off but I never got a chance.
  18. Here's a trecherous hand I would like some comments on, and I know I just posted about mini-raising but it had been winning blinds at this table and I suck at poker, so ... on with it:nickel recently took a bad one and has made some questionable calls. Jake has been desperate and won some coin-flips to get just a tad bit of room. 19. We see these guys constantly. blinds are 15/30, they raise in middle position to 60. later the pot is 240, they lead out with 40.I can see where the mini makes sense - when the blinds are big compared to everyone's stacks and we're around the bubble. But what's the best way to exploit these people besides getting great odds to call draws?
  20. Anybody else read this? Highly entertaining. I'm not sure if it'll actually achieve it's goal in helping anybody become a professional cheat, or why anybody would want to. The very fact that this book was written goes against much of the book's philosophy. The chapters repeat the same ideas over and over. It's pretty much a mess (and it was rewritten by Penn Gilette of Penn & Teller fame, I wonder what the original looked like). But as a character study it's wildly facinating. The voice of the book sounds, to me, like Lewis Black and George Carlin. So picture a combination of those
  21. I probably would have played the hand exactly as you did except made a pot sized raise after his flop bet. If you're reraised you can fold and still have around 1000 left, leaving you low but not quite desperate. This is a situation that comes up a lot and it really sucks when you push and they show QQ. I remember enough of those to keep me from pushing in this situation. And if I remember your numbers correctly, a pot sized raise is enough to not give them odds to a draw.
  22. yep. i'd have to be in later position with a few limpers before I wanna limp myself. Did I mention I was on tilt?I called, ace came on the turn.
  23. I feel like I got priced into this one but I don't know. If someone else posted this I'd probably tell them to fold in a couple of places. 24. I see your point, Nar, but that's a whole different situation. I was just trying to argue against gut feelings by putting the odds of flopping a full house in perspective.
  25. a pocket pair will flop a full house 0.75% of the time or something like that. ingoring your gut was, as usual, the right thing to do. you'll see people make the same play he did with anything from AA to a flush draw to a pair of 2s. stick in there.
