  1. Why get a retread QB (simms? ugh Shaub wont be for sale. Delhomme isnt gone either. Leftwich? ugh) When you get a chance to get a franchise QB you take it. Period.
You mean like Saban signing Culpepper? Or the Chargers taking Leaf? You get a retread QB because in this league, you can win with avg to slightly above avg. skill players. Honestly, I don't even think the Raiders need to replace Brooks. At least not this year.
Lines are important. But you dont need to use first round pick to build them. Wise late round drafting, wise free agency moves and a good line coach helps you build a good line.
If you've been watching the past several years of drafts, you know that linemen are not dropping to the middle to late rounds. If I'm building a team, I'm building it from the most important aspect with the best players I can get.Meanwhile, there isn't a huge drop in talent at QB. There's a couple of guys at the top, plenty of guys in the middle, and a few hapless ones at the bottom.
Quarterback is the most important position in sports and the Raiders cannot go into another season with the Walters/Brooks pu-pu platter (figuratively and literally).
I don't know about most important position in sports, but the most important group of players in football are the linemen on both sides of the ball. If the Raiders draft Quinn, he will be a guaranteed Ryan Leaf/Tim Couch/Rick Mirer/Heath Shuler. What can he learn flat on his a$$? All he can learn is how to lose confidence. Build a line, draft a QB after it's in place. Tell me Quinn is going to be better back there than Brooks, Leftwich, or even a guy like Patrick Ramsey. And all of them are cheaper than Quinn.I don't know what will happen with Simms. There was some talk late/mid season about him going.
  2. the list of teams who have won super bowls with a bad QB is a really really really short list (and usually its a longtime mediocre QB, think Mark Rypien, who just goes bonkers for one year)the raiders need a QB if they dont take one this year they are insane. if not quinn then russell or brohm (who I like better than Quinn) or trade down and take Troy Smith. Whatever. Get a QB.
1 - It may be a short one (Rypien, Warner, Hostetler, Dilfer, Plunkett), but there is a list of bad/avg. QB's with rings. There's no list of bad O-lines or D-lines with rings. 2 - If you dropped Peyton Manning behind the current Raiders line, they still aren't going to the playoffs.3 - If the Raiders are thinking Super Bowl next year, they really are insane.Trading down for Smith is a would be bad. If they really want another QB, they should sign Leftwich, Shaub, Simms, or maybe Delhomme if the Panthers let him go.
  3. #1. Kitna is a big part of the reason why the Lions suck. He makes so many poor decisions that change the complexion of the game.
The Lions sucked before Kitna and they'll suck after Kitna. I'm not saying he's good, but I believe they said in the Dallas game he's been knocked down more times than anybody else this season. They even talked about how sore he's going to be at the end of the season.
#2. I am a hardcore Jets fan so I would know about this. D'Brick hasnt really played well, and any Jets fan will tell you that. He was abused by Jason Taylor (well, who wasnt), Paul Spicer, and any decent RE that they faced. But I will agree that Mangold has played phenomenal and has filled the role that Mawae had for the last decade.#3. Just because a QB has a "noodle arm" doesnt mean he sucks. Pennington is one of the most cerebral QB's in the game, obv not on the level of Manning/Brady, but his decision making is good and he is a very accurate passer. Not just that, but he is a great leader. You hear Kornheiser and Co., say stuff like "My dog can throw harder than Chad" and assume that Pennington is garbage, but he came back from 2 rotator cuff surgeries to lead the Jets to a 10-6 record. Also, IMO the Comeback Player of the Year...people say give it to Brees, but they dont realize that Brees played in all 16 last year. Impressive, if you ask me.
I'm not saying two o-linemen are the sole reason the Jets are in the playoffs, but they are a big reason. Just ask Pennington's shoulder how much it likes those guys.I agree that Pennington should get the comeback player of the year. I also don't need Kornheiser to tell me Pennington has a noodle arm, I saw that for myself his rookie season. Pennington is a serviceable QB. He's like Richard Todd - not hall bound, but good enough.
#4. I know the game is won/lost in the trenches. But saying Kitna isnt part of the reason why the Lions suck is assinine, but thats just my opinion and I respect yours.
Everybody's a part of the reason they suck. Except maybe Roy Williams. Kitna doesn't own a bigger share IMO.
  4. Kitna is not the reason the Lions suck.Look at the Jets this year. They drafted Ferguson and Mangold, and they're in the playoffs with noodle armed Chad Pennington, and a trio of running backs most people can't even name.Once the Titans fixed their O-line, they started winning games. You aren't seriously arguing that a poor offensive line can be overcome by a QB or RB are you?

  5. No you tell the team to let the guy score and unless he is the most heads up player on the planet he will run into the end zone.It is a lot lot lot lot harder to score a FG with 10 freaking seconds than a TD with 90 secs and a timeout.
It's pretty hard to score either way.
As for the Brees Culpepper thing...yeah he guessed wrong. Really REally wrong. it doesnt just happen. they screwed the pooch.
He absolutely screwed the pooch, and is responsible for the decision, but it does 'just happen'. The list of QB busts is by no means a short one.
  6. Joe Thomas I believe. Thats a terrible idea though. They should have taken a QB last year (instead of a safety....who runs their draft!!>?!>>!) and they better take brady quinn this year.
Thanks, I thought it was Joe Morgan for some reason.I don't think Brady Quinn is going to be a successful NFL QB, but regardless, picking a QB first is stupid. Football games are won on the line of scrimmage. So called skill positions are way overrated. Friggin Jon Kitna had 4,000 yards passing this season. With a good O-line, an avg RB will do (see Ladell Betts, Travis Henry), and Tennessee proved this year that you can win with average WRs.Offensive and Defensive line is where you build champions.
  7. Actually they have been about as disappointing as a team could possibly be and I will blame saban for wasting a career year by Jason Taylor because he chose to trade for Culpepper instead of signing Brees. Until they make the playoffs I will slam him at every opportunity.
He guessed wrong. It happens. As for the situation on the 12, it's a lot harder to score a TD than a FG. How would you 'let' the Jets score? Tell everybody not to tackle? Then the Jets guy runs sideline to sideline til the game's almost over, then runs in for the TD.
  8. Didn't want to jinx it, but now that it's over, league champ in 2 of 3 leagues. One championship team I had was a horribe draft by me with 11 other guys who know football (as opposed to the idiots in the mock drafts preseason). I pulled that one out with a good group of WRs and lining up a good defense most weeks. Some of the RBs I started in that league: MJD, Corey Dillon, Leon Washington, Wali Lundy, Mike Bell, and Jerious Norwood. :oThe other championship was a no bench, 2 QB, PPR league, where I kicked a$$ with Steven Jackson, Brees, Colston at TE, Willie Parker for most of the season (dropped him for Reggie Bush before the Dallas game), and Andre Johnson, Steve Smith, and my 3rd spot filled by Javon Walker, Boldin, Ward, and Coles.

  9. Andre Johnson definitely deserves it, IMO. He's all the Texans have, everyone knows it, his QB is avg at best, and still Johnson will get/has 100+ catches and 1000+yds.Bulger going is indicative of how bad the NFC sucks.

  10. I think the problems lie far beyond the OC.
They have more problems than that, but a decent OC is worth at least 6 wins.
They need a solid option at QB, you can't deny that.
For the Super Bowl, or to make the playoffs? Because Art Shell went to the playoffs with Vince '90 years old' Evans and Jeff 'who' Hostetler. Aaron Brooks is serviceable until they find a better one. After all, Trent Dilfer's got a ring.
And you can't say that Moss and Porter sucking is their own fault, their qb can't get them the ball because he has no time in the pocket, and same with jordan.
They suck because of their attitude, which also brings everyone else's down. I'm just saying blaming Shell is dumb. He's not a miracle worker. He's a good coach, and went further than the talent on his teams warranted the first go around.
  11. I'm not a Charger fan... I'm a 'best RB ever' fan. Prove me wrong.
    :club: at 'prove me wrong'.What the hell though, here are some stats:Jim Brown 9 years 118games | 2359carries 12312yards 106TDs | 5.2ypcBarry Sanders 10 years 153games | 3062carries 15269yards 99TDs 5 ypcWalter Payton 12 years 190games | 3838carries 16726yards 110TDs 4.4 ypc
  12. They have talent sitting there doing nothing
Where? That is the most talentless team in football on offense. You can't win games without talent.Art Shell is a good coach. If they pick up a decent OC, they'll be much better. Jettison losers like Moss and Porter, pick that UW lineman in the draft or trade down for depth, and sign a few serviceable free agents.
  13. Agreed on the QB/DEFI didn't know Henry was out...It's a risk, but I suggest picking up Justin Fargas. He may be a Raider, but St. Louis's run defense is awful, and Fargas doesn't split time. Otherwise, is Rhodes taken? Or pick up Cris Brown, but I don't think he'll get much done. Ron Dayne wouldn'tve been a bad one game sub, but they're playing NE.

  14. Easily LT... but Brees will just as easily be the 1st string starter at the Pro Bowl.FYP.Jim Brown is a distant 2nd. Barry Sanders 3rd, Walter Payton 4th.
Charger fan? 'Cause that's nuts.MVP is LT, but I don't think you can 'plug any decent QB in the NO' system. This is the same system Payton ran with Dallas last year, and no one was talking about Drew Bledsoe. It's LT because SD wins because of him.
  15. It's all a mute point now anyway.
Stupid pet peeve of mine, but it's moot, not mute.
I'd rather just shoot them, Gitmo is enough of a problem. And how does this answer state sponsored terrorism?
It doesn't answer it, it describes it.As for what to do about terrorism, back when that plot in England was uncovered, conservative commentator George Will said (on ABC's Sunday morning show) that law enforcement is the way to combat terrorism - which is how thoise conspirators got caught. By policework. These debates are pointless because they don't address the real reasons we're there. The administration's goal is not to leave. We'll only leave if whatever incoming administration has a different agenda than this one.
