for $500-600, you can beat the specs on the entry level macbook pros. for $1500, you can destroy the best macbook pros. the apple premium is still pretty large. but, avoiding most of the shit that makes laptops annoying is kind of worth it to me.I bought my parents a lenovo for $300 for christmas. the thing is better spec-wise than any computer I've ever owned, and can suffice for pretty much everything but like video editing or whatever. I really feel like most people who spend $1500 on non-mac laptops are buying horsepower they'll never use.
