Close. When chips are raced off, all players with that chip exchange their chips for those of the higher denomination. Any players with left over chips will be given one card for each leftover they have. All of the leftovers are pooled together and and colored up to the higher denomination. If there is more than one chip left, the player with the highest card wins it, then he is out of the race (even if he has three aces dealt to him, he wins one chip). The player with the next highest card gets the second chip, then he's removed from the race, and so on. Incidentally, I've never seen more than two or three chips in a race off and I'd be pretty surprised if it was possible to have too many more than that.i have read that they deal each player at the table a card, and the player with the highest card wins the leftover chips. anyone feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.it's happened before, once. -
I don't see why so many people are appalled by this advice... OP even prefaces it with "Nothing like taking advice from someone far less successful..." So many of you indicate that Daniel is the pro, and he should be the judge of if he's doing the right thing or not. Why not let him decide whether or not to take the advice? He's a big boy, you don't need to shield him from posts that you feel he might object to, why chastise the OP for making what appears to be a nice gesture when you know that if DN read it, he'd respond politely and explain why he is staying up at the level he is?If you are going to hero worship, fine, but don't take every bit of criticism as personal! It's not directed at you, get over it!

Thanks for taking the time to write that Harry, Harrah's and the rest of casino world are so used being in a position where the only reason that they try to make players comfortable is so that the players will remain in a position where more money will be extracted from them that they forget that the vig we pay is supposed to go to the same type of comforts that the house advantage pays for in other games.I hope that all of your effort will not be for naught.

How does that affect your challenge matches, are they over or are you going to continue them?
Well, I'm no longer there...I apologize if this subject was already covered. I signed up to this forum today and didnt see the original posts. Daniel, I appreciate your reply but I am still wondering if you will ever buy in at the Winn with an average chip stack. -
Gibberish and Broken English. No, seriously: english, some spanish, and a tiny bit of hebrew.

I can't believe I saw the word "donkish" in a sentence describing Doyle's play. You're entitled to your opinion, but, seriously... That said, you are watching edited tournament poker, not cash games. I'm not exactly sure which particular show you are referring to where Doyle is making these terrible plays, probably the 6-handed NL WSOP. Doyle was playing very aggressively in the hands that they showed, which is true to his style. He outdrew a couple of times, but I hardly consider the spots that he did so donkish.Go back to your archives and watch Doyle's performances at the 2004 WSOP with fischman at his table, and the 2004 legends of poker. Some of the plays that he makes in these tourneys are extremely sophisticated. I find it extremely ironic that you include Daniel in the first list and leave him out of the second list. I am nearly positive that if you asked Daniel to rank the players in those two lists in one big list that the players in the first list would be at or near the bottom of his list. He has shown tremendous respect for Forrest's ability (refer to the Poker at the Plaza show for evidence), and obviously Doyle's, so it's very surprising that with their similar games which rely on reading ability after the flop in playing the majority of their hands you would decide to exclude Daniel from the second list.I think I'm rambling now, but I hope I got my point across. When I watch Phil play Hold 'Em, I consistently see him playing tremendous poker. He almost always plays quality cards, and if he doesn't, there is a legitimate reason. He makes great decisions and almost always gets his chips in with the best hand. Doyle, on the other hand, plays a lot looser and seems to consistently get his chips in on draws and weak hands. He makes a lot more "donkish" plays, such as limping to the small blind, then calling a decent bb raise. He gets his chips in badly way too often. He is undoubtedly a talent and has contributed immensely to the game; however, I think his advantage over other top opponents is gone. I'm continuously more impressed with players like Hellmuth, Negreanu, and Lederer. Players such as Brunson, Flack, and Forrest pale in comparison... -
Phil and Phil's ego are not two separate entites, despite evidence to the contrary.
Wouldn't it be 2 votes?
Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion, but if you asekd the top players in the world who was a better hold'em player Doyle or Phil, then Phil would get precisely one vote...Phil Hellmuth was the best player at the table. -
I thought about that too. Thinking it's unfair and passing up a chance at $2 million are two totally different animals, though.
why is doyle playing then? how is he any better than phil?Doyle Brunson agreed with me 100%. He felt like it was unfair. Phil, on the other hand is your prototypical "yes man" and somehow thinks he just "deserves" it because he is the greatest thing since sliced bread. -
I seem to recall that Daniel opted out of the first UltimateBet WPT event in Aruba because he thought the way that it was set up showed a lack of integrity. Remember, that's the one where a bunch of amateurs worked (and paid IIRC) their way into the tourney for a chance to play heads-up against the winner of the pros tourney, which consisted of pros selected by UB. I do believe that Daniel would definitely voice his concern over the situation if he was one of the ones selected. I would have a hard time passing up a 2 million dollar freeroll in my current financial situation, but I don't think that it would surprise me if Daniel did (after all, he passed on FTP in favor of poker mountain because he believed that it was the right thing to do). I don't think that this is a case of sour grapes as OP implies, I honestly think that Daniel has the game's interest in mind.

I'm trained to love fish, that's why I could never hate Danny.

Two words: Battle Royal.Last 10 standing get a seat at the final table. I'd recommend ganging up on TJ first.

Wasn't the game playing shorter handed than most of us would consider the average NL ring game? The addition of antes to the mix would lead to a different strategy than the ABC poker that a lot of us would come to expect (I'm not sure why people would expect you to play ABC poker, since that seems to be completely the opposite of your style). From 6:00pm to 8:00pm on day two I did get a little too steamed up and saw too many flops with J-6, or J-3 suited. However, overall throughout the three days I played all the hands I'm supposed to play. INCLUDING the 6-8, 3-4, A-7, 10-5 off suit... etc. This game isn't at all about what you start with. -
Don't get married to AK in low limit games if it doesn't improve. Don't try to bluff bad players, they don't care about your hand, they just want to see if they can improve their hand enough to gamble and win. Consider taking a stab at it on the flop, since you might not be bluffing at that point, but if you called, there is no shame in check-folding. More often than not, it will be checked down and you can throw your hand away without any further issues.Pay attention to the hands that people are playing against you. If you are playing against that woman in the future, realize that you need to value bet your strong hands, and try to check down your weaker ones. DON'T TRY TO PUSH HER OFF OF A HAND! She wants to play for the river, and she'll do just that. Knowing that, value bet the heck out of her, but DO NOT try to bluff her, EVER. Bad players are often so concerned with not being bluffed that they will call you all the way to the river with something like 9 high because they don't want to be outplayed. Don't try to outplay weak players, you have to show them a hand.

Thanks, you too.Ok, thx for the info. srblan, & gl at the tables. -
I resemble that remark.OMG this place is filling up with morons. -
It's to minimize the role of luck. It is often done in big games where the odds are very close.

I don't think he's lived in AC for several years. According to his bio on fulltilt, he lives in Vegas. In the article it said Phil Ivey lived in A.C. but I could have sworn he moved and now lives in Vegas. Can anyone confirm? -
Not quite the same, since flushes and straights don't count against you in razz.just hope for the opposite starting hand that you would play for in regular holdem. Instead of AA you want 72 off suit. lol -
I watched with the sound off. Did I miss anything?

I much prefer FSN's coverage to ESPN's at this point. Not so much the Poker Superstars II, but some of their other coverage.

Why not safely assume that someone folded a 9 then? Or two nines? One of my friends who plays in my home game tries to argue this point with me all the time. For example, if we're in a coin flip situation, say A Q against 99, he would argue that you can "safely assume that somebody folded a Q, and somebody folded an A...at first I argued with him, and now I just politely agree....more money for me to win. -
I find little pairs to be much easier to play in loose NL games, since you are looking for a set, or you're looking at an easy fold. How do you like AK on a A K 2 flop if you are up against 22? You've flopped a monster, but you're in terrible shape!
Umm, I think what allinbluff was trying to say is that if 2,2 doesnt improve and AK does, 2,2 is now junk. and AK has plenty of outs. If any of these kings or aces hits, then 2,2 is drawing slim. AK also has the obvious top card on 2 paired boards.I would take AK over 2,2 anyday. that 2% should be used for milk and milk only
NO YOU DON'T RETARD!YOU NOW HAVE FOUR 7'S W/ A KICKER ON YOUR TOP EXAMPLE AND 2 PAIR 8s AND 3s A KICKER THAT MEANS YOU IMPROVED YOUR HAND MORON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
board 77377, I still have A high 33889, I still have A highAK MUST improve to beat 22..........22 doesn't need to improve to beat AK.

If your company has an IT policy that forbids any kind of gambling activity (most do), don't do it. I've been an IT admin before, and it's not necessarily a day-to-day responsibility to find people that are breaking the rules, but every once in a while they will check. The fact that you are asking means that you have some inkling that it's not a good idea, good instinct, it's probably just going to get you into trouble.
