    Every full orbit they change.
    It's not like anyone drags the players into the game against their will...there's a lot of pros who could play in these mixed games but don't because it's more profitable for them to specialize. It seems like the purpose of the Big Game is to give its regular players something to do and a place to spend time together, rather than a way to make big money. The players who are in poker for the $$$ tread in the shallow waters with the fishies (300/600 - 1000/2000). You don't walk into a game with 8 of the best players in the world expecting to come out way ahead.
    There are definitely players who lose in the big game. Since not everyone is good at all of the games in the rotation, people often try to maximize their wins in their strong games while minimizing the losses in weaker ones. Some of the games can get even the best off their game and steaming. That is how a lot of players come up with their wins. Plus, not everyone in the game is necessarily the best. There are definitely players that stop by after big tournament wins that don't necessarily do that well.
  2. I'm moving into NL cash games after having previously played tournaments. Generally would you re-re-raise with Queens. Im just thinking that in this example the flop may have saved me from going bust. If 3 rags had flopped then it would have been difficult to get away from my hand. Maybe not in this example as his limp re-raise suggested a monster but against a typical re-raiser it must be hard to lay down queens on a rag rainbow flop.
    As a general rule, I reraise with QQ (to isolate the original raiser), but not if it's a limp-reraise. I will usually just call to see the flop, since many people are capable of limp-reraising with AK. If my initial raise got the blinds out, I don't see any reason to reraise, since you will have position for the rest of the hand and want to give yourself an opportunity to get away from the hand if it flops poorly.Out of position, reraising makes a lot more sense because of the difficult decisions that you will have thereafter. I was playing with a very successful NL cash game pro recently, and he told me that when I checked behind after raising pf and flopping a boat, it made my hand a lot stronger. His limp-reraise has the same effect. He also told me that I was not playing position enough, so that's something to keep in mind.
  3. The point is, no one has the right to do whatever they want with his own body, and there are many such situations in which this is the case (drug laws, sodomy laws, suicide laws, and so on). Also, in reality there is no such thing as "human" rights given to you at birth, and certainly no right to a medical proceedure that has existed less than 100 years. If abortion was some part of a birth given human rights package then how in the world would a woman 500 years ago redeem her abortion card??
    By this logic, you would allow the possibility that Congress could legislate people wishing to get bypass surgery or even a vasectomy. There are many rights that pertain to technologies that we did not have 500 years ago that we do today.The fact is that almost every medical procedure that we use today has existed for less than 75 years, forget about 100... 100 years ago, we barely had anestesia. Don't you think that it is unreasonable for someone to decide what my best interest is if I have the capacity to decide for myself?

    If you go read some of the Tiltboys' trip reports, you will see that Phil Gordon could not be the guy.Sounds like there's a pretty good case for Russ Hamilton.
  5. King of Vegas was the first thing I thought off. It just looks so shady and DN had three good friends in it.
    KOV is a freeroll and it's not really a poker show. I doubt he's referring to that.
  6. I really think it's the UPC. The players on there always seem so uptight and they're playing for lower payouts, on Poker Royale the atmosphere seems more upbeat.
    DN has been a commentator for UPC a few times. I don't think it could be that. Plus, the pros that I have asked about UPC said that they loved it.

Pair+flush draw hands are among my favorite NL hands to play aggressively, since even if you are behind you have a ton of outs (plus, if/when you outdraw, you will win a big one because you've taken out your opponent's ability to make a laydown). Shove it in and curse your bad luck when you miss.

  8. Thanks for the thoughts everyone.Yeah, I folded that one without too much thought. Mostly wanted to see what people's reactions were to my raise on the flop. Sometimes I second guess myself in these situations because there are times I feel like I am just getting played at when holding TPGK. In other words, I raise to find out where I'm at, and the villain re-raises me back not because he's ahead, but because he suspects that I'm just raising to find out where I'm at. As for the preflop play -- I thought about reraising to isolate against the original raiser. But the raise came from EP and from someone who hadn't really shown that he was a weak player. The button and the blinds were a bit loose, so I thought a call here had a chance to make it a 4-5 way pot where the money I invested into the pot preflop would have greater relative equity due to the suited nature of my A-10. It seemed like a better EV play than isolating against an EP raiser that could have me dominated.
    I don't mind your play on the flop, and I've second guessed myself many times into big losses. Don't give your opponents more credit than they deserve. They are often less sophisticated than you think. They probably assume you are raising for value and want to maximize their own value.As far as reraising with A-10 preflop, I think that it's going to be extremely -EV long term. It's a big time trap hand.
  9. QJ and KQ are probably the most overrated hands in NL hold 'em. Minraises suck. Minbets are worse. If you were playing with me, I probably would have said "You must have made the right play, since you won, right?"

  10. Also, pay attention to your opponent's tendencies, and don't try to make really fancy laydowns on the river (the latter killed my heads-up game for a long time). Next time DN is on fullcontact, watch for a while, and see how often they raise from the button. I think I have gotten a lot more aggressive short-handed since observing his heads-up play on a few different occasions.

  11. I put him on either a flopped ace or a flush draw (yes, some players are actually that bad). I don't think that a lead will work on the river, since if you get raised, you will probably have to call anyway.I honestly think I'd have bet more on the turn (maybe all of it, depending on your opponent's ability to make a laydown), knowing that I'd get called by an ace and I wouldn't have to make a tough decision if something ugly happened. Maybe that's too conservative, but since you are out of position, you don't really want to take the chance that your opponent hits his kicker.

  12. I prefer to slowplay when I have a reason to. Any time you flop a set with two broadways on the board (especially if one is an ace), slowplaying is going to be dangerous. People are much more likely to take one off with A-big than any other because they know that they are likely to have the nuts if they hit. I'd have probably raised to 4 dollars on the flop, knowing that an aggressive opponent might push on me if he has two pair or a draw.

  13. I usually flat call with split aces in low limit stud at a loose table, since a raise with an ace showing almost always means aces and a raise is not likely to thin the field, so you will almost always need to improve to win. I'm not sure if my advice is good, but it disguises the strength of your hand slightly, so if the door pairs people don't automatically fold because they know you have 3 aces.

    I read it and I understand that it forbids men from dressing as women, but if you take it as a whole, it seems like it might be outdated. Note that there are passages elsewhere forbidding mixing different types of fabric and lots of other things that are no longer considered relevant. It seems strange to me to pick and choose which parts will be considered still in effect based on the end goal. In other words, since the goal is forbid homosexuality as a sin, a passage is quoted. However, none of the other laws set out in the surrounding passages are followed because they have no specific relevance to any agenda.

It is much worse to actually murder a person than it is to simply hate them, even though they are both sinful in God’s sight. It pretty much comes down to what you believe, as always.     The last passage you quoted forbids women from wearing pants... Not sure how currently relevant it is.
  16. does it say it is an abomination though? all these commandments in this book are part of the old covenant, I pu tthat one in there to show that there was a reference to homosexuality in the bible when many of these posts in this thread said there was not.
    I think that it does. I found an article talking about the translation issues here.
  17. Well, in biblical times, "lie" meant had sex with, so thats that. An abomination is something that causes disgust in a certain group or faith group. Disgust is a common reaction, as it is with most sins.
    The translations I've read usually use "know" to mean have sex.
