  1. As a diehard Avs fan I'm stunned. We just traded a hot goaltender for what this year looks to be an overpaid longterm contracted goaltender that is injured and maybe seen his best years. Did Pierre forget there is a cap in the NHL???? I was looking for a shocking trade of Rob Blake to get some thing out of him before we let him walk away in July. Instead we are in even more of a cap bind with few minor league prospects. Pierre hasn't made a good deadline trade since Ray Borque, but he has done a great job in the off season.
  2. Great game on OLN last night. End of Carolina game was incredible. Best power team in NHL, the Red Wings ended on a power play then pulled their goaltender. It was like someone had a machinegun and was mowing down this cluster of red and white in front of the goal. At one point there was an open net and a player did a baseball slide and took a slapshot in the back to help out the goaltender, awesome hockey. With Carolina holding on to win.The announcer made a comment that Carolina was the loudest arena he had heard when they were surprise finalists. As an Avs fan Bourque getting the Cup had an
  3. Bob Hartley coming to town once a year is an automatic story since he won a Cup here. Playing different teams is to me a lot more interesting. Like cards I can't just play holdem anymore. I enjoy playing stud h/l and omaha. I'm a phanatic so I'll go watch Edmonton and the Wild four times, but for TV and optimization I think they need to mix it up more for the average hockey fan.
  4. A few of my favorites from reading the hockey news:After a fourth line player got carried off the ice with a concussion the trainer came back to the bench. The coach asked "How is he?", the trainer replied, "he is in pretty bad shape he doesn't even know who he is!" A player yelled from the bench "Tell the SOB he is Bobby Orr!"Tie Domi before the Christmas break was being agitated by an opposing enforcer. Domi growled, "Careful or you are going to be eating Christmas dinner through a straw!"
  5. No way I feel sorry for the Red Wings schedule. Dude you play Columbus, Chicago, and the Blues 24 times! Try the NW or NE divisions. I don't care if the Wings play back to back games the same day with the donks they are playing. Get a clue Bettman go back to the old schedule with the new rules. I'm trying to sell all these home games with the Wild, while no Crosby, no Ovechkin, no Forsberg, no Bob Hartley, and no defending Stanley Cup Champs will be in the Pepsi Center.Go AVS!
  6. My team is the AvsBiggest bust: This year with the salary cap you have to say Rob Blake. Rob Blake has been a half step slow and maybe a couple years too old for these new rules. His -13 is worst on the team (he is pretty much up against the first line though) and has not had a great number of points considering his amount of power play time. His stats for points/g are about the same as the past, but lots more scoring this year from everyone else.Biggest surprise: Ian Laperriere is old school. He is Gordie Howe school. He is scoring, he is checking, he is taking names on his way to the penalt
  7. I'm just an Avs fan looking for a goaltender, but I did notice as Buffalo lit up Abby and then watched a great game the other night with Buffalo beating Philly in OT that the Sabres may be the most underrated team in the NHL. Hey Ottawa can light up anyone so throw those games out. Buffalo's leading scorer... Tim Connolly and he is a +5. So what do you guys out East think?I'm sure there are a lot of smaller variables Team USA has to look at like left wing/right wing and all that, but a young up and coming hungry player with the stats to back it up seems like the direction to go.
  8. This is going to be awesome! A real freaking hockey all star game! I didn't think the USA had a prayer either, but then I start looking at the stats of all these guys since Roenick is raising hell. All these guys are top five on their teams in scoring across the board. This team is not sisters of the poor. Even Hatcher is a +7 for the Flyers and he is the weak link? Modano may be having his best year ever. I think the USA is full of players that are underrated and are going to be bringing all they have to Turin. If the chemistry is right even the USA can win three straight games. It isn't a se

  10. I haven't seen ballot stuffing like this since Daly in Chicago. Something is very strange about this. How many times have you voted on this poll Danny? Man I have to draw the line somewhere. I'm the biggest sports sicko in the world and hell I admit it, I even TIVO poker. But curling? By default I have to rank it higher than ice dancing, but you have me curious and I'll have to TIVO that 3AM segment. I actually would put snowboarding or the freestyle moguls after hockey. Those events were new, but entertaining.
  11. Wow did we get spanked by Ottawa. Three top caliber players out and the last 10 mintues they smoke us like a cheap cigar on the road. Figured they'd be focused after losing back to back at Vancouver and Calgary. This team is going to be scary in the playoffs this year. No Lalime, no conservative style (this team smells blood they are like sharks), and no muggings in the NHL will stop them. While we have a cap in the NHL the best team has a better chance to win that seven game series than past years with the rule changes. You won't see some hot goaltender and five muggers walk away with a 1-0
  12. Avs get Ottawa Monday and yes it royally sucks that we play Ottawa just once this year. In fact it was only a 33% chance that I get to see Ottawa with this stupid scheduling. Nice rivalry with Vancouver, but during the season I would like to see some other teams. Eight games with the Wild! How do I sell those? Forsberg isn't even coming to town this year with the Flyers. The Flyers were one of the hottest tickets in years past and Betman can't make this game happen?! Idiotic!
  13. We in Avalanche country have noticed the Stars are alive and kicking. Modano seems to be back in form after a really bad last year. Did it ever come out what he lost a fortune on? Guy is the most underrated skater in the NHL in my opinion. He is awesome to watch.Go Avs
  14. Avery plays on the edge, in my opinion he is over the edge and is a selective, opportunistic, cheap shot artist. But I love watching the games he plays in, it is exciting. Sick isn't it. I also saw him win a game earlier in the year drawing a power play. Hasek was unbelievable. I think he is the best goaltender I've ever seen. Yes better than Roy no contest and I'm a diehard Avs fan. Hasek has never been healthy with a supporting cast like he has now. How about the Kings breakaway and Hasek comes out charging and undercutting him before he gets his head up to shoot. Senators are the clear fa
  15. Two reasons I love the NHL over NBA.Average NHL player is 6'1" and a little over 200. Normal human beings. Not genetic freaks that are spoiled from 15 on.I love college basketball, but David Stern and his NBA are all about self promotion, what can I do to get on ESPN highlights, how many guys can I have carry my bags, how many points can I score, lets outlaw the zone so I can diminish team play.In the NHL it is about the team winning, what was my +/-, and I better work my ass off bc other that Keith Tkachuck no one gets fat in the NHL.
