  1. Nah. You were correct about this. You didn't really do anything wrong. You bet, he called. You bet, he called. You bet, he called, etc. He called the whole way with tens and then caught a lucky full house and you deserved to win the pot. Mark this guy and play with him often, and remind him that you "drew out" on him, he will get pissed off and raise you at every chance.

  2. In NL tournaments, tight early (when blinds are lowest) and loose late (when people are tightening up and the blinds are higher) is a decent strategy for a beginning player. That is a very straightforward way of playing the game and should yield decent results. As you play more and more and get comfortable in new situations, you should loosen up your game.I started out very squeaky tight when I played tournaments, and I would consistently bust out in third or fourth in Sit n gos. I got frustrated by this because I was going like Broomcorn's Uncle (being blinded out) in every tournament unless I made a huge score early. After studying, studying, studying, and playing, I have loosened up my game exponentially and am now almost to the point of playing like Daniel. Needless to say I am much more successful. If you feel that you are much better at reading players and making good post-flop decisions in small pots, then loosen up your game at all stages of a tournament and beat people by outplaying them. If you aren't as strong in these areas, and are much better at pre-flop poker where you basically fold all night until you get AA, KK, QQ, JJ, or AK and then raise three time the big blind, then continue to play this way. Lee Jones gave a great speech at the 2004 World Poker Players Conference about sit n gos and how to beat them. Get that DVD and follow those strategies if you are better at pre-flop play or are feeling weak at post-flop play.It basically comes down to the way you feel comfortable playing. However, never forget that what is most important is how the rest of the table is playing. If you are observant, you will pick up who's blinds you can steal, who will limp with any ace, who loves any big cards (especially QJo from early position), and who always bets the flop no matter what. After finding this information, play accordingly. And pick up Harrington on Hold'em.

  3. Daniel has plugged cardplayer and hasn't even mentioned FCP.Phil: "I can't even get the streaming video on my laptop."Daniel: "That's because you are still in the 80's. Last time I went with you somewhere you bought, like, a tape player."Phil: "I'm up on technology, I have the newest U2 Ipod."
