I say the qualifying tournament should be like playing on the bubble in any other tournament. People are going to go "Hellmuth" and fold queens pre-flop because they want to wait for a better spot. It's going to be squeaky tight.
-
No offense, and I don't want to be a dick, but *cough cough* Jesse *cough cough*.I am re-posting this from another thread:If we have an open tournament, our best players might not make top 25. We all know the luck in tournaments so one tournament will decide nothing. I think most of the players who regularly post in strategy should go. Here are some I think (pardon my bad spelling of names) should go, granted some might not want too: KDawg Zimmer Custom36 XXXeddie akishore econ tim absolute allinbluff35 wroto (idiotbocs) smash suited up jaysonweber fryer ranae nikki marion just blaze iveyfan elkang steve7studAnyone want to add someone to this list, feel free. I think Zimmer, KDawg, smash, suited up, jweb should be locks. This is just a few who I think are good based on what I have read...But we have a TON more players who are just as good as these guys... It should be an open event...censored it if we have more members than them.... -
I think I would probably fold this on the turn if you read them as super loose and fairly chickenshit. The SB made his straight, it's right out there for everyone to see, I think. Calling him down might not be a bad choice if you don't know much about them or you read them as super loose-aggressive. I say against a typical bad player, you fold.

And we do need to have equal numbers participating.Bs. If this is FCP vs. NWP, then all of our players should be able to play all of their players. The reason they won't be able to get as many people as we will is that our forum has more members and more skill. That is the reason we are having the tournament in the first place, so if they think they can beat us, they shouldn't need that many players.
-
Probably, but I don't think that is a bad thing. The people that aren't as good as some other people still want to show their dedication to the forum, so I say we let them. They might end up doing well and drawing out on the NWP admin or something, and that would be funny as hell to see. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes.I'm going to take a shot in the dark here and guess that everyone who doesn't expect to win a qualifier or get picked to play wants an open tournament, right? -
I don't want to piss you off or anything, but I think not recognizing that there is a flush draw on the board is a leak. Make sure you always know what is out there and what beats you. While you are trying to put someone on a hand, you should go through the hands he is representing, see how they fit the board and then compare that to the probability of his' holding each of those hands.

I say it depends on your abilities and your steam-control. Also, what site do you play on? Answer these questions (about your ability and site), and I will respond.

I definitely would have checked the river. While reading the hand, I figured him for KQ on the turn, so the river screwed you over and you have to check. If you do bet the river and get raised, I think I am going to fold this almost every time. What hands would he go in with on the river that you have beaten? This is where I, once again, just like every other situation, have to go to a read. The reason I prefer live games is because people that play like this guy did most definitely will give away his hand. Based on my opinion of this guy, "marching bands were going off in his head" when that club hit, and it is an easy fold. Until the river, I love the way you played the hand. Great aggression and no slow-play, congratulations on being the one person in ten that gets it right. Maybe bet more like 40-45 on the turn. If he is going to call the 35, he is going to call the 40-45. Nice hand, bad luck.

Omaha and O8 are great games if you know how to play them well. I am good at them because, to me, they require little thought. They are so simple because you look for good starting hands, see the flop, if you have the nuts or a draw to the nuts and you aren't afraid of the board, you stay in. If not, you fold. Most people don't get this and they try to bet with TPTK and ignorant OESD's.Some people think that every game is hold'em, just with different setups. I hate tv poker players.

Mozart. Nothing calms you down more.

Thanks, needed that. I know I'm an *******, I was just venting.

More than likely, I am just in a huge downswing, but I swear that in the last three days 80-90% of the time I got my money in with the best hand, it didn't hold up. It is beginning to be expected by me to the point where I want to take a few days off. In the last four days, I have entered 12 sit n gos and I have come in 4, 4, 2, 7, 5, 5, 2, 6, 6, 6, 3, 7. That is horrible, and usually my average finish is 2.3-2.4th place. Probably just a downswing, in just case take this as venting a little bit. I am not running badly in cash games, though, so I don't know what is going on.Thanks for putting up with that.

anyone? I thought it was 10-7, but it isn't.

Personally, I would love to play in this tournament and I think I would be a good addition to the team. However, I don't play on Stars, so I prefer Full Tilt. Also, I say if the tournament is about which forum has better players, it should be a HORSE tournament.

Umm. No shit. That's the point of the game. It's funny how many of you feel that DN is a lock no matter who he is up against. I love DN and his style, but I think that even he isn't so thick as to think that he has got a strangle-hold on poker. You need look no further than this years WSOP in 2004 he was Player of the Year. This year 2 cashes in how many tourneys 20 maybe? The cards wouldn't come, and no amount of skill is going to change the cards you are dealt. The best players simply know how to get the maximum amount of chips out of the good hands they are dealt. They are also able to limit their losses when the cards are not good, for a little while anyway, until the blinds start forcing them to take chances they would otherwise not take. DN you are my favorite and I always root for you. Play Good. -

Poison. When did Moses build the ark? Here's another I used to tell as a kid:Romeo and Juliet are both found dead in a room in a tower. The door was locked, the window was open, there is glass and water on the floor. Neither of them are bleeding. How did they die?You can ask yes or no questions (answer may be irrelevant). -
Go to raketherake.com and read the referral directions. My name is JesseW3161. You just have to sign up and put my name down, I think.

I don't think I can offer too much help here, because I have problems with this situation, too. I don't think you have the best hand, he probably has 6s or 5s.But 8 folds? Find a new table.

He had a double backdoor straight draw! You always call with a two-straight.Some people think you are bluffing and call you down. They don't bother to read your board. Stud and O8 are the best games around, because people don't understand how to play them.

Great Site. My favorite. But, it has better players overall than any other site. If you are a strong player, you should be ok at Full Tilt, but if you are just beginning or have only been playing for a little while, you are better off at Party Poker or another fishy site. What games do you play the most?

value bet scary river or take free showdown? (lhe)
