  1. I think the above quote is your problem. I don't know what levels you're playing at, but if it's below 5/10 limit or $100NL, I don't think you should play that way. You just don't need to. I take relatively few bad beats because I play almost all my good hands very aggressively. At the lower levels, you will still get paid off by horrendous players who think TPTK or 2 pair is good. In reading your post, I definitely don't think you played those hands poorly (especially the straight. nh) but I think you need to get away from betting just enough to get people to draw, especially in multiwa
  2. will do. thanks for the advice. I'll be grateful, too...
  3. I've been playing at the $100NL level for the last month or so. When I first moved up, I had a few losing sessions in a row and I cashed out about 1/2 my bankroll because I thought I might end up losing it all. Anyway, I had logged $100+ wins my last 3 sessions, all 1-2 hours. Then, last night I return to playing like a donkey. In 1 hand I'm bluffed off a pot w./KK by a $40 bluff. Long story short, a 3rd spade hit after he called my pot-sized flop bet (flop was rags) and then he bets out $40 & I fold. He showed 57 for a pair of fives. Nice... It ended up being a great play by the b
  4. ironically, QQ is the only hand I won with... I bumped it to $5 preflop and got one caller. flop came down rags and I bet the pot and took it down.the first hand w./KK I got all the money in on the turn w./a Q high board (Q hit on the flop)and 3 clubs, while I had none. river came a club and the villain took it down w./Ac Q. I knew for a fact he had AQ and I just got unlucky on the river with the 4th club hitting.the second hand w./KK I happened to be up against AA. perhaps there was a way to get away from it, but the board was all low cards and the villain was active and aggressive.I'll t
  5. three hands in a row: KK, QQ, KK. Net: -$250+. Sweet... yes, I'm whining. sorry. could somebody post a link to the flame-retardant suit website??
  6. I originally bought in for $50 and lost it a few times, playing NL way out of my bankroll (ie-buying in with all the money I had.) I also bought in and won big a few times, usually cashing out the winnings + whatever I had bought in for and lost already and leaving myself what I thought was enough to build back up. I lost what I left in each time (at the time, I really believed that I had "bad luck" after I cashed out and that the sites might be rigged, lol...) I broke even like this for 6-12 months before I started reading about poker and playing within my bankroll. I have since worked my
  7. I have news for you all: Nobody survived the plane crash. They're in purgatory.
  8. I signed up for this for the 100% bonus up to $600 and the weekly freeroll for a seat to a WPT event or the Main Event at the WSOP. To qualify for this freeroll you only need to play 4 hours a week. While those things are nice, it appears to be relatively tough to clear the bonus and, worse than that, there's nobody playing NL there. Also, there's nobody playing PLO or PLO8. By "nobody" I don't mean just a few people, I mean nobody.Just a rant.Edit: They edit "b.itch.ing"
  9. raise preflop and raise or push the flop. what the f... are you doing just calling on both occasions?
  10. Not really. Absent any reads, I also would have assumed they were poor players and done the same thing. Obviously, in hindsight you could have just called the turn bet and check/called the river. In this scenario you probably would have saved yourself some chips. 77?
  11. While I think NL is a better (more interesting) game than Limit, I will agree that more poker knowledge/skill may be required to win at limit. I consider myself an average player at best. My pre-flop skills are good, but I don't know much (or at least I don't generally feel comfortable) about post-flop play.Having made these concessions about my own game (or lack thereof,) however, I can say that I'm cleaning up at the PP NL $25Max game to the tune of 20BB/100 over 5,000+ hands.I think I've trashed my own game enough so that this won't come off as a brag post (I really do suck) but I'm sure
  12. This is very similar to what I do at the $25NL tables on PP. I've seen a bit less than 3000 hands but my BB/100 are over 20. The only real difference is that I will call small raises (up to $.75) with any pocket pair. I actually prefer entering a raised pot with these hands because when you flop a set you will usually get paid off even more. On PP, if someone raises w./AQ and hits their queen on the flop I will get every last one of their chips more than half the time (obviously if I hit a set.) If I don't hit, I'll throw it away. Anyway. that's just what's been working for me.
  13. Barring anything unforseen, my bankroll will be able to support a move from $25 to $50NL later this week. Has anyone made this jump recently? Should I expect a smaller level of donkishness or will these people continue to use the following tactics: The missed flush draw all in bet after the river, the call down of huge bet after huge bet w./tptk (regardless of the 4 to a flush on the board,) the 5$ bet into a $.60 pot and (my personal favorite) the call on the end when holding the immortal nuts when both people involved in the pot have a lot more money? Someone please, please tell me I can
  14. I was going to post after watching the vid that I didn't think it was funny at all and that O&A appeal to 15 yr old's sense of humor. I can't believe so many people here think that interview was funny. Whatever. DN's response pretty much covered how I felt about it, too...I haven't watched the video, but I suspect your correct based on fact you obviously are a comedy genius. Your location, my moms house, is beyond funny. Why you don't have your own comedy show is beyond me. Oh wait, your probably 15 and that joke is still funny when you are in the 1oth grade. Good luck on this foru

  16. did I read that 10 or 20 buy-ins was standard? I'm not nearly smart enough to figure out how to search here, so please help me out. I'm almost to $500 and want to move up to $50NL at pp. thanks.
  17. mine just came in the mail today and I think it's a pretty cool t-shirt. I will not hesitate to wear it the next time I play. Speaking of which, I may represent at Foxwoods next Thursday. Anyway, it's just a shirt and I certainly wouldn't pay $16 for shipping.
  18. jesus christ, I cap the turn and (assuming the river's not a club) I also get as many bets in as possible on the river. this guy has an overpair and is a complete jackass. what happened?
  19. Thanks, Nars. There is definitely opportunity to make money with those hands. Also, with AX suited I'm generally just looking for flush draw possibilities. If I happen to hit an A on the flop, I won't hesitate to drop it to any raise. If I hit top pair w./Ace kicker, I'll obviously play it aggressively, too. Thanks again.
  20. I started playing no limit and was breaking even (literally) over more than 6 months. I realized I needed a better understanding of the fundamentals and played limit for awhile. What I was doing was playing correctly, winning, and then playing poorly with the winnings (WAY too many hands, not being able to lay hands down, etc.) I won (small amounts) playing $.5/$1 using primarily the starting hands mentioned in SSHE but wasn't really enjoying it. I then went back to NL and have been winning ever since by remaining tight/aggressive and laying down hands when I need to. I still know virtual
  21. OK, so after a long learning period I've adjusted my game such that I'm tight/aggressive/aggressive and haven't had a losing session in a long time. Generally, my pre-flop strategy is as follows:I standard raise (to $2 at this limit) w./AJ,AQ,AK and pairs 10 or higher. The only hands I usually limp with are AX suited and low and mid pocket pairs. I might raise with those hands in late position if it's folded to me to take down the (tiny) pot right there, but generally at this level I think your money (or at least your real profit) is made by flopping a set (primarily) or a straight or a flu
  22. what's the latest anyone's seen recently on who's winning or losing big online (and to whom?)
