what would you do on this hand?
Razor replied to duckie143's topic in No Limit Texas Hold'em Cash Games
Think about playing at a lower limit???What does AA put his opponents on that they would call a $30 raise with that have him beat.Who calls a $30 raise with 22's preflopWho calls the $30 with the 22's then hits his set and folds? This is just ridiculous .. you're making it up!Watch live at the bike, people call raises with K4 offsuit. These aren't cash games at the bike though .... are they? -

huh? ... is "the game" a person? ... this is some sort of riddle isn't it? Don't tell me the answer, I'll figure it out. -
Casino actually ... and yes, I think that is the point, but I'm wondering if you change your style at all to accomodate this structure.I.e. are you still looking to push when you're <10BB??Yes you should be pushing, you're going to have to double up at some point to make it deep. This is the kind of tourney I'd want to double up in the first hour at least. Then you can still try to see a few flops when the blinds go up. But when you have 7BB's you have to push, you can't make a standard raise for half your stack. Unless you have KK or AA and need to double up and are willing to take a chanc

I don't think your play was awful. Especially since you had a read, and it was right. .... I don't know if I could have pushed after that bet, but I fuk'n suck so, that's not saying much.

Horrible structure. Anything less than 30 minute blinds should be considered a satellite (turbo) in live play. Starting with 100BB is oky, but you can't have the blinds double, that's an exponential increase and will always cause it to be a crap shoot by the 5th or 6th round and it leaves no room for post flop play early on. My suggestion if they want to use 25 as the smallest denomination chip would be to run the blinds every 45 minutes, starting with 2500 chips and going 25/25 25/50 75/150 100/200 150/300 200/400 200/400 with 50 ante 300/600 with 50 ante 5 hours and you're done with plenty o

I played in a tourney last night ... 100 person MTT ... $40 + $5 buy-in. I'm wondering what some of you might think about the structure:2500 to start ... blinds start at 25/25 and double every 15 mins. The thing was, that when it got down to the last 13 players, which just so happened to be when I busted out, everyone seemed to be "short stacked" compared to the blinds. With 13 left, the avg stack was 20000 and blinds were 1500/3000 that's only 7BB a piece .Is this normal??Also, normally when you are this short stacked, (less than 10BB) you're looking for a spot to get all your chips in. But,

Oh ya .. one other thing ... I was just thinkingWith everybody low on chips, because of the structure, should I still be looking for a place to push?? ... or should I tighten up and just play a normal game??
-
Funny you should ask, I actually doubled up about 6 hands earlier when I PUSHED w/ A,9 off.The structure is $40 + $5 buy-in ... start w/ 2500, blinds start at 25/25 and double every 15 minutes. And I wouldn't say the average stack was 4BB, but there was no one with a huge chip advantage .... probably more like an average stack of 20,ooo which would be about 7BB.... still not very good. Well, assuming 100 players start w/ 2500 ... that's 250,000 total chips in play ... w/ 13 left that's about 250,000/13 = ya ... about 20,000. Doesn't seem like a great structure to me, any thoughts? The structur

I know ... I know ... honestly, I have no idea what I was thinkingF'n crap ... I was playing well too ... I just lost it for one hand and that was it.It was funny, cause I sat there, and counted my chips, while the cards were still being dealt and for some reason "call" jumped into my head.I think because I was getting close to the final table and I wanted to push with that hand, but obviously didn't want to go broke, and somehow ended up in the middle just calling. Dumbas5!!And I knew it as soon as I threw the chips in. I looked at my stack and went "what the fck was that. Then I hit the fl

I just busted out of 100 person MTT in 13th place. Top 10 get paid. Here's the hand. With 13,000 in chips, blinds at 1500 / 3000, I limped UTG with A7off.I think this was my first mistake, but the table was super weak tight and the majority of hands at that point were being played btw the blinds only. Anyway, after I limp, I get 2 callers, a guy in late position and the BBFlop is A, 10, 4 and I push. Is this the right thing to do? .. I thought I was good, since no one raised b4 the flop.I get a caller who shows A,9 and I'm gone. I'm pretty sure if I'd have pushed pre-flop, I'd have taken the

Similar incident that I hope ppl will find amusingI was playing 3/6, and I was drunk as usual. A middle aged man who just happened to be a horrible poker player was also playing. I played for about an hour at this guys table, and he would not shut up about how horrible everyone else at the table was playing. He had gotten run down by a guy with Q2 off and this was the hand he kept going back to.As I mentioned, I was drunk and I tend to get vocal when I'm drunk, so instead of causing a scene with this guy I left and went to another table. When that table broke up, about 2 hours later, I was

I might want to cap that flop heads up.The three bet seems to me to be a lower pp. Although I see a lot of 3 bets on the flop by oesd. Either way, you've got the best hand at that point, and u can be pretty sure your opponent is going to call one more bet. In this case though, since opponent doesn't have any money, capping the flop won't really make you any more money.Cheers,Ray.

standard, right? (iceman deals w/ turn c/r)
Razor replied to TheIceman05's topic in Other Poker Cash Games
9 times out of 10?You sure it isnt something like... 7.5 times out of 10? Because that's roughly how often you have to be leading, assuming that you're just as likely to improve when you're behind as he is to improve when he's behind, on average. This is an read oriented decision, and the read of donk doesnt help us at all. He's essentially an unknown... and against unknowns, i know a lot of people here advocate calling down in marginal situations, on account of the value that the information provides you later on.That's usually what i do.Nope ..... it's 9 times out of 10 alright. -
Also, 66, 88. MAYBE a stupid-ass playing 33.But I call down here. I think folding to turn check-raises leaves you vulnerable. 2/4 is about the level where people start, like, paying attention. When I played 2/4, I made a lot of money (and still do, at 5/10) when I saw people too willing to give up solid hands on the turn. It can become imperative to pay-off with TPTK/TPGK if refusing to do so means someone can profit off you by simply COMING AFTER you. You're not a champion player. Nor am I. These are situations in which you might be beaten often enough for a laydown to be profitable I

I think your play is standard, but I still think it's wrong. Mind you, I do the same thing .. almost all the time. But against a loose/passive donk, you should definitely consider folding. These are the types of players that just call bets all day. I don't think this guy is trying to "outplay" you with the check raise. He has a hand, and I'd guess 2-pair. I play mostly live 4/8, and this situation is very, very common. I'd say 9 times out of 10, TPTK won't win this hand at the river. Assuming you're up against 2 pair, on the turn, are you getting the right odds to call this down every -
Can someone help me out with the acronyms. I don't play online, so I don't know what these mean. The only one I can even guess at is pfr=pre-flop raise???
-
I think you have to at least consider folding to the raise. Against a tight player, you're usually behind when you get check-raised here (at least that has been my experience). But I'm trying to figure out what hands the villan would just call with preflop UTG that have you beat on the turn, or at least might warrant a raise.K3, K6, K8 suited (all pretty weak calls, but nonetheless), or maybe he decided to limp in with 4,5 of spades and decides to check raise his gut-shot flush draw. Most likely though, I'd have to think he has K,10 or KJ to be calling UTG preflop in the first place. Bottom
