I agree. It was a mistake to try to bluff at that river, especially knowing what type of opponent I was up against. I was so pissed off at myself for giving away the hand on the flop, that I wanted it back and was willing to put my stack in there to do it. I'm hoping I won't do that again anytime soon!

from chipleader to shortstack in one hand...
Razor replied to TheCinciKid's topic in Tournament Play
EDIT: Quoted by mistake the first time around.I don't have the experience you do when it comes to tourney's, but I discussed a hand on here yesterday that I think fits in with your hand. I also just recently busted with the AKs against AAI think with AKs, when facing a raise, unless you know your opponent is SUPER TIGHT, and only raises significantly with AA or KKs, you should re-raise. I think you have to know if you're ahead before the flop. I don't really like taking AK to the flop, I'd much rather take it down pre-flop. You very often miss, or you end up behind when someone hits a se -
re-read the post.I didn't want him to call obviously, I was wondering if he might be weak enough that he would fold to my all in raise.

You may find yourself very uncomfortable writing things down live. Playing online makes us all lazy about counting pots and focusing enough to remember how different hands were played. If you are preparing to play live I would pretend you are playing live without chip counts and hand histories. It will make you much sharper when you get there. That's just it, all i play is live ....anything you read from me on here is a live tourney. I thought about the awkwardness of the pen and paper at the table too, until I saw a guy doing it the other day. He didn't seem too out of place, although I think

I fuckin' love this censored!!!!!!Copernicus and Royal, you guys are saying the same thing. Without worry of sounding like a total fish, I never gave this aspect enough thought. The first thing that goes through my head (edit: used to go through my head, not after this post tho) when I raised, was how much do I have to raise to get a call, or get a fold, it's never how much will tell me if this guy's got KK, AAs or AK or whatever.Wow, I've gotta have more of these discussions ....Great stuff, everyone!!!! ... I love it!!Can't wait to get back on the tables!!!i found my way out of general/off

I may not have been clear in my original post...We're still early on here, 10 handed, but I end up heads up with this opponent on this particular handif we were heads up, I'd give myself a bit more credit for playing the hand "not so bad"would you care to re-assess ... it'd be appreciated.positions, and chip stacks please....it's important to know all the small details to try and helphe's BB, I'm about MP 3 or 4, so I've got positionwe start the hand witH;Me: about 3900Opponent: about 5000

I like this line too .. . I have a tendancy to bet big whenever I flop a set ... seems to generate a lot of action and I find it really works to disguise my hand

Here's another horrible hand I played slightly HORRIBLY.blinds at 50/100Me: KdQd:I end up heads up to the flop, when my opponent makes a standard 3xBB (300) raise early on and I call.Flop: K, 4, 7 .. rainbow:Opponent checks, I check. (I'm trying to slowplay this, against an aggressive opponent. I'm sure he'll fire at the turn regardless, and I want those chips. NOw, I NEVER slowplay unless I've got a monster, but I had a mental break down here I guess, and decided to giver a try)Turn: A(Holy cow!! ... why me God, why me! ... Now all I can think of is how stupid me checking that flop was.

Here's the thing about the min raise.....With the chip stacks, starting at 2500, this 600 is a quarter of most peoples chips, due to the horrible structure and super quick blinds in this tourney. It's more than enough to knock out anyone behind me with a less than stellar holding, and I don't mind going heads up against the initial raiser with QQthe thing is though, that min raising is giving hands like A-10, and KJs , small pocket pairs, and medium suited connectors the implied odds to call. don't let them hit their flop cheaply, there's no shame in taking down the blinds + the original raise

No? .. should I still push it harder and try to take it pre-flop?

I agree .... I re-read my post, and when I said ... (how weak was that), I was referring to myself. I def think I should've bet the flop. After missing that bet, I think I either should have given up the hand, and folded to his turn bet, or raised like I said.Thx for the reply.

This hand came up last night in the early rounds of a MTT, I'll try my own analysis in italics, can you help me out???Blinds: 50/100I had just doubled up and had a little over 5kmy opponent had about 4kNo reads by the wayMe: QQOpponent: ??opponent raises UTG to 3002 fold, action to me I re-raise 600 to goevery folds, it's heads up ...Flop: As, 7d, 4c Opponent checks, I check (How weak is this .. really, wow. I'm pretty sure he would bet here with any A, besides AK or AA., but I have the feeling this guy would've re-raised with AA pre-flop, maybe not though, as it was heads up when the actio

That just opened ... where were you playing before that? Do they have a max buy in on the 1/2 NL? (just curious)Anyway, Cash Casino on Blackfoot Drive (NE) has $20 + $2 NL re-buy tourney's and $40 + $5 NL freeze-outs every day. The re-buy tourney's are at 1pm and the freeze-outs are at 7:30 pmThe Sat freeze out is $50 +5, but the levels are longer. 20 min blinds compared to the 15 min blinds through the week.Check out www.cashpoker.ca, all the info is thereYou can also play 4/8 limit there, 1/2 and 2/5 NL, i think they spread 8/16 limit too. They may or may not have omaha games every once

Thanks!Ya, I've got some mixed emotions heading back. I've been out here a little over a year, and I'm starting to settle in. The gf wants to move back though, so I said I'd give it a shot. Lots of friends back home though, so it should be pretty good.hey razor,i have a bunch of cousins that were on that shuttle too, from Antigonish NS to Calgary. Quite a different lifestyle with lots of things to do in Calgary and ummmmm not as much in NS. Did you originally go to Calgary chasing a job? Tough getting work in Novy. Good luck to you, hope it all works out well.Ya, I was hired by a company in
