  1. Well, now that we all want to know, enough derailing the 2010 Goals (or is it the 2009 Results? w/e) thread.Things we know:Winning playerMember of FCPMember of "another forum"Apparently does not coach her at Chinese Pokerc'mon detectives!
quoted to add the only fact I know
  2. Seriously? The administrations job is to run the TSA and Homeland Security. This was an epic fail by both.
In what sense though? In that they had potential information about this person well in advance of the incident yet only had him on a watchlist and not the "no fly" list. I won't disagree with you there -- but this was a much bigger failure on the part of the screeners at whatever airport he originally cleared through. The USA can make their system as tight as they want and it still is only as good as it's weakest point.
  3. I think this will really hurt the air travel industry as a whole. There are reports of delays >6hours at the Toronto airport for flights departing to US airports. A pile of the flights have ended up just being cancelled altogether. If faced with having to travel to NYC, Chicago or basically anywhere on the east coast, I'd rather just drive there than have to sit in the airport all day for a flight that may or may not ever get off the ground. Agree that it's a complete overreaction to subject all passengers to the extra scrutiny and restrictions on carryons. Also, not letting people out of their seats or allowing access to carryon items for the last hour is stupid. All that tells potential terrorists is that they have to time their attack earlier. How do either of those impact passenger safety?

  4. I have never in my life studied hand histories. I have never studied books, or watched videos. I always have just played poker and played with every player who wanted to play me. To be honest, I never even studied my own hand histories.
Come on. There's no possible way this can be true.I call bullshit on all sides of this stupid story.
  5. Upon review of the nhl rulebook, the referee could have given a misconduct penalty under rule 22, which says a misconduct can be given for:

(iii) Deliberately breaking stick or refusing to surrender stick for measurement
Even that I think would have been sufficient. BigD, I think we're arguing ourselves in circles here. The issue is that he was swinging his stick around like an idiot. It doesn't matter that he hit his own teammate. If he'd smashed the ref in the head or if the shaft had flown in to the stands and hit a fan, they should all have the same consequences.
  6. Let me put it this way.. if the league doesn't come down hard on this guy, do you think it will open the floodgates for players to be able to jack their on goalies in the head with a stick?
You're missing the point. There's not a single person anywhere that thinks he meant to hit Vokoun. What some of us are saying it that you are solely responsible for controlling your stick while on the ice. Follow through on a shot and clip a guy in the face -- that's high sticking, whether you meant to do it or not. Cut the guy, it's a double minor or major. The rules of hockey don't distinguish between "accidental" high sticking and intentional.I'd bet if they gave him even a game or two, that would be the end of guys smashing their sticks recklessly out there.
  7. Exactly. Send the message that you're responsible for your actions, no matter what your intentions were. Send the message that swinging your stick like a neanderthal will not be tolerated. The fact that he hit his own goalie was just dumb luck, but I never understood why the refs put up with guys smashing their sticks in the first place. That's a good way to earn yourself a seat in the box in any game that I'm reffing.

  8. I don't think it's right for the NHL to hand down a suspension but it's well within the rights of the Florida Panthers to suspend him.
I think the league has every right to suspend him. Whether it was intentional or not, he injured someone with his carelessness. If the shaft had broken from him smashing it on the net and flown in to the stands injuring a fan, what would the punishment have been? This is no different.
  9. Ballard must feel awful!
Was nice of him to, ya know, hang around and make sure his goalie was ok afterwards or show any concern. On the clip anyway it looked like Vokoun lay there pretty much on his own until the trainer got to him...
