  1. And that's the crux of it. You should be able to do business without a lawyer, however, it is in your best interest to hire a lawyer because the other guy may be out to screw you. I wish it could go back to the old days where a simple yes and handshake would seal a business deal. Now, you almost have to pony up the extra dough and write out these ironclad contracts because you can't completely trust the guy you are doing business with.
  2. Hi! Nice to meet you.I do think that you can't defend your beliefs (right now) because so far your defense has been ... check out this lecture by Depak. If you decide to defend your beliefs and answer the questions then cool ... we are starting to get somewhere and my opinion will probably change.Just to refresh ... To which JJJ asked how YOU to explain how to "mentally & spiritually detach yourself from matter & earthly concepts" You then said to watch a video.Hope we are all caught up now.
  3. That's kind of what I was implying. If I ask you (BG) what you think about slavery and you say to me just"read the bible" or listen to "x" preacher and this will help me to understand ... well guess what, I don't want to take the time or energy to read the bible or listen to whatever preacher. I want you to tell me what you think ... which you do. Wordsoftheprohet was telling JJJ that in order to find that answer to his question, he needed to listen to a 75 minute talk from Depak. That to me is absurd, because I would rather hear you put it into your own words. A charismatic person can "s
  4. Then why are you here? If you can't defend what you believe then maybe you should take a closer look at your core beliefs. Just saying to listen to Deepak is absurd. That's like BG just tellin us to read the bible and everything will be magically explained.
  5. IMO the government shouldn't have anything to do with making sure a church makes its payroll. As far as the 30 years of service ... did I say that he should not be compensated fairly? Because I swear that I was talking about those pastors who in addition to making a salary as a pastor they also make several million in book sales, dvd, whatever it is that they feel like selling. My feeling is that should be used to help people and not be spent on frivolous things, like a new sports car or any other lavish thing that rich people buy (you should know well what I am talking about ). It's seem
  6. I don't equate it with negativity or unchurch like. I think it is fine to make money ... I just think if you are a pastor or religious leader you should not be basking in wealth while your flock is suffering. I'm not saying all pastors do this, I am saying that those who do make me sick. It's one thing to provide for your family and have a roof over your head in a good neighborhood. It is quite another to have extravagant things while a parishoner who is struggling financially continues to donate.
  7. Here is my idea for a church. I would make sure that the pastor of said church never made more than the average salary of his parishoners. Now if he happens to sell some books about God he should probably donate the majority of that to charity. I too am tired of seeing all these pastors that live like kings preaching away all the while their parishoners are giving away what little they can afford. These churches should be doing more with their money. Instead of a pastor spending money on cars, how bout he start to help those less fortunate. Those that have been blessed much, should in tu
  8. You need to hold the Radical Muslim clerics responsible for these actions. As well as holding all priests, KKK members, Timothy McVeigh and the rest of the host responsible for their actions. The fact is that all religions can be misinterpreted to blindly lead the masses to whatever purpose the religios priest deems. I believe that there needs to be more unity when things like this happen. It would be great if the muslims would be able to come together and say "Holy Shit our religious leaders are grossly distorting the Koran, let's move to make sure that everyone knows the difference betwe
  9. It really comes down to who and how things are interpreted. There have been many people over time who have been killed because they did not believe in Christianity (I use this term loosely as to include any group who believes that Jesus died for our sins and therefore we are "saved"). These same people interpreted the bible to justify their actions in killing. The same can be said for the modern day muslim extremists. While some say that Islam is a peaceful religion, there are others who are using it as a recruitment tool for terrorists. While I have not studied the Koran or muslin faith
  10. My QT would be 1. Pulp Fiction2. Reservoir Dogs3. Jackie Brown4. Inglorious Basterds5. Kill Bill 26. Kill Bill 1
  11. For me only Pulp Fiction and Res Dogs would make the top 100. Basterds, KBV2, and JB are great. For some reason I wasn't the biggest fan of KBV1.
  12. Nothing says america like strip clubs and fat people.
  13. My dad used to watch that movie at least once a month the entire time I was in HS, so I have seen it numerous times. It is a great movie and I didn't know he directed it until this thread
  14. I would place the Coens in Tier 1. (EDIT: Not sure who else, I would have to think on it)As far as the OP.1. Memento2. Inception3. Batman Begins4. The Prestige5. The Dark Knight6. Insomnia
  15. Ah interesting. I would think it would be the dad, but if I take your question as a statement that the mother in law is the guardian then that would change a lot of things.
  16. Well since he just wanted to see them ... then wouldn't it be easy to get them on a plane to go and see their dad. Also as a father I wouldn't care less what my mother in law thought, they're my kids. As far as raising the kids, I am only a criminal in the US so if I am overseas there is no reason to clear my name. I will just tell the kids that it is all a crazy misunderstanding and they will buy it ... cause they are kids and have no reason to distrust me. Then when they are older I tell them the whole story and they can figure out for themselves what they think.
  17. My real question is why he can't just have his kids move from the states to overseas ... it's not like they have to stay with his wife (assuming she really died). He was only wanted in the US correct? He could live in other countries ... like Roman Polanski.
  18. To be fair this started as a talk about the Mosque in NY ... so it's hard to avoid all talk of religion.
  19. What have I done? No one cares about the validity of the story in this thread. As Longliveyork brought up, I should have used another story as my analogy.Sorry that I'm not an astrophysicist
  20. Now have you ever read the Koran? I haven't but I would wonder what the central message of Mohammed is.
  21. I see your point. Let me cherry pick another storyEDIT: Here's the thing: God himself in the OT chooses to have the Israelites destroy the other nations because they are wicked. God made that distinction and the people followed that and killed in the name of God because he told them to.Mohammed has told his people to kill people in his name as well. I just don't see the distinction except as a matter of semantics. You are always going to have people that interpret their particular beliefs in a different way. So an extreme muslim may read the Koran and decide that it means he needs to be
  22. You have read the Old Testament right? Noah's Ark ring a bell ... but keep laughing if you must
  23. Dinner for SchmucksZack Galifinakas was gold! Steve Carell ... not so much. Had a few laughs, but not as good as expected.
