What is your definition of this? 5%? 10%?Also, did you just say that the "average" cop will adhere to the law and NOT pull over brown people ONLY because they are brown? I'm just checking if you actually conceded a point.
-
No, its not. And you saying over and over that this law encourages racial profiling is getting on my nerves. It does not encourage police to go look for brown people (as you say it does). Do you think that all border agents that work for the border patrol in Arizona are racist too?EDIT: I also like what BG had to say about this .... you are seriously way too fast dude! (i know, i know ... that's what he said )
-
Again, saying that this law *encourages* cops to look for people that look too illegal is an OPINION.I will say this one more time in answer to your "How many is too many" question. 1 is too many and any cop that is being racist should be punished to the full extent of the law. However, if a cop pulls over someone and they happen to be mexican and they don't have ID and are acting nervous, then the cop SHOULD be able to ask questions. It's the same thing as the DUI checkpoint that BG alluded to.
-
What is this again?EDIT: Nevermind ... So this again is going on the assumption that this new law will increase the contact. This is a big assumption and I guess that is what we are arguing over. So, do they keep any kind of statistics as to what ethnicity they pull over at the police department? If not, then how would we ever know if this went up or down.

I think what he is saying is that the percentage of mexican (is that the PC word to use or is it hispanic?) people that reside in AZ is large enough to where every stop being made will NOT result in asking for papers. This would be time consuming and if there was no reasonable suspicion then they would be on their way.I AM JUST TRYING TO INTERPRET BG (for those who may think that this is my opinion on the matter)EDIT: Damn BG ... you are fast!

You need to stop extrapolating crazy theories from mudane posts. I was responding to this: And so I say that there are more good cops than bad ones. As I stated before ANY abuse is too much and as such if a cop was caught doing something wrong then he should 100% of the time be punished up to and including losing his job and pension and if the case warranted it go to jail. Now back to your post: That's like your opinion man.

I really can't see the American people ever letting that type of thing happen. However there is the case of the frog and boiling water ...
-
I would say that there are more "good" cops out there than "bad" cops.

Awesome work! This weekend we went out to do some sport climbing outside of Lone Pine (south of Bishop, CA) and I led a few 5.7's and some 5.8's. It was a totally different experience and I am hooked on it. It was the most fun I have had in a while. Good Times.

I think that it demands outrage 100% of the time if it is indeed a racist cop that is using a power trip in order to further his own agenda. That being said, I would start to ask certain questions (without your predetermined rules that all cops that pull over a minority are racist) about why the stop was made. Is there a taillight out? Was the person speeding? Stickers on the car? What was the reason the cop gave for the stop? Is it a valid reason? How many times has the cop pulled over someone else for the same reason? Out of those numbers what are the races that he pulled over? You see

Are you suggesting that everytime your son leaves the house he goes to jail?
-
Your son is hauled off to jail every time he leaves the house?Somehow I highly doubt that. Like has been said before, you make some great points and I agree with you on tons of stuff ... however statements like that are not helpful or relevant to the discussion at hand and actually cause people to dismiss some of the better points that you have. Back one page ... post 784

So I got that going for me ... which is nice.
-
What if I already do that?
-
Okay, but don't you think that it is a little hypocritical to chastize AZ when the laws of your land are presumably worse?I am just going from the bulleted points. Haven't really done any research into illegal immigration to Mexico.

FINALLY!!! I shot even par on the day. Had 4 birdies, 2 bogeys, and a double. Next up ... a round under par!
-
I don't know how I feel about the Mexican president critisizing AZ law. On one hand I find it laughable because the laws for mexico are much more stringent that the AZ law will be ... although I guess to be fair there aren't a lot of people busting down the border to get into mexico. Does anyone know about illegal immigration issues in southern mexico? Is there a problem? How do they deal with it there?

The Obama administration threatened to veto parts of its own health care bill after budget scorekeepers found that the package would add at least $115 billion more to government health care spending.

Played on Saturday and shot a +1. Had a round of -1 until the 17th where I doubled :angry2:Oh well ... maybe next time.

He was thinking all the illegals would leave the country because he wore an american flag on cinco de mayo.I tried and tried to come up with something funnier ... but that is all i got. ISAJ
-
Hence it goes back to motive. If this was offensive to someone and it sparked a fight then that immediately becomes a safety issue. So then wearing this shirt ON Cinco De Mayo could be considered a safety issue. It just depends how "in your face" these kids were. Was it an overreaction? Probably. Are people overreacting about it now? Probably.
