I'm going to be playing in an event with a buy-in that I've never come close to playing before. I usually play $10 and under events, and this is a $150 event. I won a satellite to it, so it's not like I'm blowing a big stack of my bankroll doing it.I'm making the assumption that there's a difference between $10 tourney players and $150 ones. Is this a correct assumption to make? Are people tighter at higher buyins? Or are things about the same? Are people more apt to try and push out other people with a re-raise even with no hand? I usually manage to survive well by not doing anything stupid, and not making any outrageous bluffs. I defend my BB when it looks like its trying to be stolen, and I steal blinds myself when the opportunity arises. I feel I play solid poker, and as such, the buy in shouldn't matter. Sorry if this ends up looking like a stupid post, I'm just really looking to play well, and getting any advice I can will be helpful.

VP$IP is different. VP$IP is "Voluntarily Put $ in pot", so the big blind does not count. I am not sure if how the small blind gets counted in this though. So if you can check the BB, you're not voluntarily putting any $ in. So you're seeing the flop but not adding to your VPIP.Was wondering seen as though i don't have PT if VP$IP is the same as % of players to the flop. Or VP$IP for an individual is basically how often that person is seeing the flop. -
So, on the party network, how do you go about it? Randomly select a few tables, and pull the play into PokerTracker, then GT+? Do you need to sit at the table first? I must admit, I think that is my biggest downfall when I play on the party network is table selection.

I've been playing backgammon at Gamesgrid on and off since 1999. This site is definitely the best. You get your ELO Ranking if you become a member, but the free guest membership is fine. I know there were other benefits to becoming a member, but I can't remember them now.gammonempire is also a pretty good site.If you decide to start playing for money truemoneygames is a decent one for that. Actually, they have a few freeroll tourneys there too that are quick and easy. There aren't that many play money games there tho. But, That's actually how I got started into poker, was because I had a few bucks from a freeroll, that I entered to use a $1+0 added money poker tourney.Gamesgrid is easily the best. -
Ok, the way I read it was that his buddy folded once he showed him the hand.since his buddy was out of the hand, its not really THAT bad.i still wouldnt do it, and id prolly get a bit wierded out if 2 guys are sitting next to each other are that close. -
The results aren't really important to me as to the fact that I thought I had the odds to call it. One of those concepts I wanted to make sure I had learned.Earlier in the same SNG I had two shorstacks go allin behind me and from the BB I only had to put in another 75 chips to win about 800, and called with Q2o.However.... since you asked.** Dealing Flop ** [ T:club: , 4:club: , 6:club: ]** Dealing Turn ** [ 6:spade: ]** Dealing River ** [ 2:heart: ]villian shows [ Q:heart:, A:club: ] a pair of sixes.FCPjsull shows [ 6:diamond:, 4:heart: ] a full house, Sixes full of fours. What were the results of the hand? I'm assuming you called. -
I am gonna risk getting flamed here but I gotta ask...You showed your hand to someone else at the table? In the middle of a hand? When he was still to act? Maybe I am naive but is that not parallel to collusion?
-
Heads up in $10 limit SNG. Villian has been uber-tight. I have 6980 in chips, he has 1020. Blinds are 300/600 and I'm on the BB.I get deal 6

, he moves all in.I assume I've got two live cards here, and I have to put in 420 to win the pot of 1620. In that respect I would think I have odds to call it right? -
I've only experienced one place, but playing 1/2 online and 1/3 at the Turning Stone is like night and day. TS was SUPERloose! Casino play at the low limits is "any two will do" from what I gather.edit: I may have misinterpretted your question. As far as MY play, I played the same way I would online.I have been playing online for about a year now. I don't have the chance to play often in a casino as the closest one to me is 1.5 hours away. I think that online play is equivelant to no foldem holdem for the most part, so I don't think it is a true test of a poker player's skill. I do admit that I have lost more then I have won in online play, but that is more due to my lack of patience then anything else. I have started to work on that. My question is: Do most players find a difference between online play and casino play? Does having actual chips in front of you make you play tighter?ThanksBrad -
The problem is, if you see the flop and fold, and then have to give up the SB next time, you're looking at around 2k in chips which means you'll be having to move in with any halfway decent cards on the next orbit... So I think you're going to have to go all in here.

You're right, it does.As I looked up my old numbers I ended up finding out that out of my first 15000 hands I played 7000 at .50/1.00 and 8000 at 1/2. So I ended up playing more at 1/2 than I thought I did. I'm trying to figure out the problem with my 1/2 game. I am doing fine at .50/1.00, and I believe I'm playing well enough to win at 1/2, but somethings going wrong.Perhaps I need to give it another 10000 hands or so, and re-evaluate again.
that seems to contradict ur statements in ur first post...matt, I know what you're saying about the BR. I had been playing 1/2 for a while. -
thanks for the replies guys. I have gotten a bit passive, but when I look at the detail, it's only on the flop that's sticking out as being passive. I had a good night last night, and it helped a bit.matt, I know what you're saying about the BR. I had been playing 1/2 for a while. I recently only decided on 2/4 for a bit as it was easier to clear points for the pokerstars bonus that way. After treading water there, I played a bit on the party network too. I don't see the correlation between skill and BR level though. IMO, If my BR supports it, I should be able to play at bigger games every once in a while.Again, this is about 3400 hands: Can somebody tell me how this looks?VPIP - 17.59 / AF 1.98Went to SD - 25.55% (too high , too low?)W$ at SD - 56.12 (that's par right?)It seems when I'm losing, I'm losing pretty big.Looking at the biggest losers in 1/2, I see my set vs higher set, and my KK vs AA, my QQ vs AA, things like this..... So, maybe it is ? But I'm definitely a bit passive on the flop it seems.

Varience. Is it hitting me or not?I'm in that "in between levels" kinda stage. Bankroll around $1200. I have been playing .50/1.00 limit mostly, and occasionally 1/2. Just recently I've played a few 2/4 tables and overall done ok with them. So, at 2/4, I'm about break-even, and at .50/1.00 I'm a winning player, but I am having a helluva time at 1/2 though. A combination of bad beats plus bad plays has truly gotten the most of me. With (a very small sample size, I know) about 3000 of 1/2 hands in my latest PT database, I'm down about $350. I can't seem to win with my good hands. One thing: I've re-read SSHE. Since re-reading it, and it finally sinking in to my brain, I have started to apply concepts from this to my game. In doing so, I've become a much tighter player (VPIP used to be 23-24%, is now 16-18%). Since this time is when I noticed this downswing. One glaring stastical improbablity, is that I am losing a TON of money with QQ (winning percentage = 33%) and AQs. Again, with this one, I'm chalking it up to varience, as I went through the QQ hands I found I was beat by a rivered flush, a rivered gutshot, and a flopped set (which I totally misplayed). But can I chalk this all up to varience? Can I be playing TOO tight? Some sessions I'm seeing 9-12% VPIP for my game. After going through my first 15k hands in PT, I decided to eliminate JTs and 9Ts altogether unless on the button.I'm at a loss right now, as I'm halfway through the Empire reload and already down $200. I'm all of the sudden much less confident in my game, especially once I saw my PT icon change from TA to TAP. Don't mean to be so long winded. I'm just looking for some real advice, because I just don't know what the hell I'm doing wrong if I even am.

somebody from these forums hit the Party one a few months ago. I can't remember who. Ended up with a payout over 40K or so, I think?

That's the only requirement I may not reach. Do you have any idea how many bonuses there are to clear this weekend and couple days following?* And some free time next week!

I have a domain. I'm trying to work out ideas for my affiliate site. What is it you look for in an affiliate? Is it rakeback? Sign-up 'gifts'? Daily information on the page? Updates on Bonuses and such? Other?what kinds of things does everybody look for when signing up through a site?I appreciate any and all responses.
-
You won't be able to take advantage of both.Granny code (or any other) will track you to that affiliate, not PSO, and then you won't get the PSO points.

I'm currently at about 15k hands. The first 4k or so of those, I had no idea what the hell I was doing with poker. I'd like a more accurate representation of how I'm currently playing. Should I start a new database? Should I keep the old one? How long should I keep the old one for?

I've been off the forum for about a month or so... yet I see reference's to this "smash style" . I have even used the search function of the forum, yet still cannot seem to find a post to this way of play.... Can you point me to a thread?Good sample set. Thanks for proving it doesn't work. I imainge all the people making money with it will now switch to collecting cans.Good luck. -
It's nice to be the one in charge of SurfControl here at workhave discovered full contact poker. No more FCP at work. All good things must come to an end.

local guy that every dealer knew was the raiser. saw him play at least 50% of the hands so far, so him having 68o isn't out of the question. Just the 2 of us in the pot. He hadn't raised yet either.I wasn't worried about him catching two pair until that river.I'll also add it was my first time live. And I was still reeling from a set getting beat by a higher set one orbit before.Who raised you? Will there be callers behind you? If there are, I'm calling the raise. If there aren't, I'm 3-betting. I don't know why you're even debating whether or not you should call - folding is certainly not an option.Lead out the river. If you get raised, I think I'm just calling because there's a chance he has aces ful.

This probably isn't the right answer, but here's my response:In situations like this, I like to be the one leading the betting.I'd bet the flop, see what comes. If he's playing anything, your fives may be good enough on their own. he could simply be betting on a flush draw since he's last to act.
