  1. Have we all forgotten the 80s so quickly? Obviously the only way to solve this is a TRIATHALON!! Phil, DN and E-Dog take on Ram, Mark and Erik in 3 day-long sporting events, winner take all! (or in this case, get off scott-free)

  2. Actually, Lederer made it clear several times that if he had had Gordon's hand there, he WOULD have gone broke, and his comment was just letting Gordon know that yea, he was ready to go broke so his fold wasn't a bad play. He wasn't ribbing Gordon, he was commenting on his short stack and that he would've been all-in in that spot.

  3. It's going to be hilarious if the table loosens up in the last episode, after Gordon's table-killing presence was removed from the game. He just made things so akward it was hard to watch. Only Harman seemed able to deal with it, but maybe that's because she had to sit next to him.

  4. If there was one poker pro I could easily see being a wife-beater, Men is it. This doesn't surprise me at all. It'd be hilarious if somehow this made the news and was a big event, getting Vietnam to send him back!

I was at the borgota for a WPT event and "men the master" was in front of me on the escaltor and he plugged one side of his nose and blew buggers all over the escaltor.... my 2 cents on the man
That's disgusting, and makes me hate Men even more. Seriously, who the hell DOES that in public?
  5. Yea, I definitely felt the tension from the beginning, I don't think I've ever see E-Dog like that on tv, he always comes off as a nice guy and you could really tell Phil rubs him the wrong way. Phil's stupid comments after Erick lost that big pot were just what he needed to get angry at Phil. Since you're probably out there reading Phil, I will say this for your own sake: THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK!

  6. I'm sure she has money, probably just not an extra hundreds of thousands to spend on poker tourneys. Plus, she probably had to ship a little cash to Annie Duke's new b/f (Shannon's ex-hubby) as part of the divorce settlement.
Wow, talk about trading DOWN, from super-hot actress Shannon to homely, multi-children-bearing saggy Annie.....
  7. If anyone cares (who DOESN'T, poker drama is so much fun and we're all bored losers), Phil and Huck are dicussing it at a table in the FTOPS as we speak, here's a quick C&P with the birds editted out:Phil Gordon: no, I said he doesn't respect MY play, and then I said I had a strategy that I would follow because of that fact.Phil Gordon: he's willing to risk those chips AGAINST ME because he doesn't think I play well enough to make a tough callPhil Gordon: yes, another book this summer... GOLDPhil Gordon: for whatever reason, he just doesn'tHuckleberrySeed: in response to the blog...Phil Gordon: as a tv commentator, you have to call it like you see itPhil Gordon: just because I'm not as good a player as Daniel or Erick doesn't mean I'm not capable of giving a good analysis of the strategies that MIGHT be required to beat themHuckleberrySeed: event 1:phil heard erik say phil has no gambleHuckleberrySeed: this triggered an insecurity in phil causing him to lash out at faabricated weaknessesPhil Gordon: Huck, I can tell you this, Erick absolutely "comes after me" in tournamentsPhil Gordon: I know thatHuckleberrySeed: ive never seen edog get a large chunk of chips in w the worst of it in a big tourneyHuckleberrySeed: the guys goodPhil Gordon: yes, he's GREATPhil Gordon: but, that doesn't change the fact that he really thinks I'm terriblePhil Gordon: and because of that, he plays a different game against mePhil Gordon: exactly, which was the point that I was making in my articlePhil Gordon: I did not comment on Ericks abilities, just his play against MEPhil Gordon: you get it, right?Phil Gordon: no, bluff magazinePhil Gordon: and, i didn't say he "got his money in bad" -- I said he was willing to gamble before the flop early in a tournament against mea GT guy...i'm still a fan!HuckleberrySeed: daniel quoted you as saying it in general, not just against youPhil Gordon: continue to do so... I just have a bad memory from collegePhil Gordon: well he was wrong.HuckleberrySeed: ;)Phil Gordon: the article basically took each player at the final table and I outlined what I was thinking for eachPhil Gordon: 36Phil Gordon: Erick is a hell of a player. Clearly top 10 in my book. But, I'll stand by my assessment: he plays suboptimally against me because he thinks I'm so much worse that I probaby amHuckleberrySeed: i think you have the edge when people give you no credit in cash games, but in tourneys you want respectHuckleberrySeed: ive seen every great play terrible on occasion

  8. I think Gordon's realizing that without his show, he's just another decent player and nothing at all special, and he's cracking up about it. He really hasn't done anything in the poker world, is getting blown by a lot of the up-and-comers, and can't hack it. You can see some of his snideness towards Mike Sexton as well, regarding the whole WPT thing (he even made a negative comment about the final tables in the first ep), which is out of place on the show. He should leave his personal crap and the lawsuit off-camera, like Howard has.

  9. i have to agree with 11 to 1 (and as somewhat stated in mike caro's article). the dealer should be paid...not all the dealers. what's the use in getting good service if all of them get the tips? they know it's "required" to tip. if you could not tip the bad dealers the service would change. it would be interesting to see management's points on 11 to 1's issues, but we'd probably get a company line. G (-:
I totally agree that pooled tips are completely retarded and I'm happy my local cardrooms don't do this. If they did I would not be as generous as I am. Pooled tips hurt incentive to deal well, since you're not responsible for what you get, and reeks of communism!
  10. Are you all serious with your "I don't need to tip philosophy"? I'm not saying you gotta give them a huge tip, but geez, if the guy/gal is friendly and does his/her job properly, throw them a bone. One lady I played with at the Mirage 1/2 game tipped $1 no matter the size of the pot (unless it was really big, then probably $2, and if the pot was uber-small...in the $10 range, she may not have even tipped-but few pots are this small). I don't think there is anything wrong with this at all. I personally tip more than that, but tipping and average of $1 per pot is adequate at this level I would say. Like somebody said TIPS means To Insure Prompt Service (or as I have heard it To Insure Proper Service). There is a normally a reason that you don't get your food as fast as a regular 20% tipper when you are leaving your 10%. And yes, the person providing the service should ean it, and not expect it, but you don't need to make them wipe your *** to earn a tip. And for the record as annoying as it is to see people repeatedly not tip, it IS equally annoying to see a dealer/waiter being a prick and EXPECT a TIP... yes it must be earned, but give em' a break. And yes, there are waiters and dealers that may make more than a teacher and possibly other professions....SO What? Now your punishing the guy for making a good career decision. I am sure you are saying that a teacher/cops job is more important to society, and I highly doubt anybody will argue with you. Do YOU make more than a teacher/cop? Is YOUR job more important to society? Not to mention there are a decent amount of dealers that are either paying their way through school, or have Semi-retired from their main job to Las Vegas and enjoy that atmosphere; don't punish them for that. Give em' a break.
The people who like to whine about tipping are usually 100% online players and don't deal with it anyway (and are usually too young to actually play at a B&M casino anyway), or mediocre to bad players who don't like coughing up their minimal winnings. If you can play at your level comfortably, totally +EV, tips do not hurt your profit at all. And anyone who's played any reasonable length of time at a casino will know that dealers have to put up with a lot of **** at the tables from sore losers, drunks, and idiots that, in my opinion, entitles them to a little compensation. That said, you SHOULD tip based on dealer competance, not "just because." If you get a slow, sloppy dealer, while I don't like stiffing, they won't get more than a buck from me no matter the pot size. If the dealer is fast and knowledgeable, they will definitely get more, as you are seeing more hands per hour, and therefore making MORE money than a crap dealer. Keeping good dealers happy and dealing will simply pay off in the long run.
  11. I just think he's an old-school player who never really adapted to the new aggressive era of poker. You don't see him much, so I assume he just plays now for fun, not really to win. I mean, he HAS to know he was being pushed around at the table. That said, I do like the show (even after I was concerned about the lack of commentary in the first ep). It works because it felt almost like a home game between the 6 players, and was fun to watch, even Hellmuth's obviously-staged antics. Even Huck was chatty, and he's always a rock on TV. As long as they keep it like this, and put on people who can make interesting conversation, I'll keep watching.

  12. I like variety and enjoy watching any poker game televised, but apparently the interest just isn't there. They tried airing lots of side-events from the WSOP in '04 (the Razz event was a hoot), but have decreased the the number every year since then. We'll be lucky if we get one PLO or Stud game next year :club:

  13. I wont say these people have no personality, I'll just say they hide it when they're at the table. Phil Ivey and Allen Cunningham. John Juanda doesn't say much either. As a matter of fact, theres this one guy at the WSOP who wanted his shirt autographed. He gave it to me to ask the other players (I worked for Cardplayer).Robert Williamson III (one of the nicest guy in poker) gladly signed it. He handed it to Evelyn Ng (very cool as well) and she handed it to another pro who I forget now. But when they handed it to Juanda he said no. They tried goating him into signing the guys shirt but he wouldn't. I'm not saying Juanda is a jerk or anything. He was very focused and didn't want to be bothered. Though I still think he should have signed it.
maybe he just doesn't like signing things. I know a lot of celebs and such don't want people selling their signature and profitting, and a t-shirt full of autographs is the kind of thing that could end up on E-Bay real fast. I don't think it says anything about his personality.
  14. as someone training to be a dealer, I'd gladly do a home cash game or tourney, and would probably just charge for the session, not necessarily by the hour. Especially if there would be tips involved, it wouldn't have to be much either. But then again I'm kinda bottom of the barrel with little experience :club: Also, you'd need a decent set-up. A normal table probably wouldn't work out too well.
