Proper Play For This Hu Hand?
wheezer16 replied to wheezer16's topic in No Limit Texas Hold'em Cash Games
edit: This was a relatively new opponent and I didn't have much of a read on him, although I did see him play aggressively with 33 on a previous hand. -
Trying to improve my hu play. Wasn't sure what to do when facing this all-in situation:This was a relatively new opponent and I didn't have much of a read on him, although I did see him play aggressively with 33 on a previous hand.PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $10.00 BB (2 handed) - Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.comSB ($1064)Hero (Button) ($1350)Preflop: Hero is Button with 10, 10Hero raises to $30, SB raises to $100, Hero calls $70Flop: ($200) 8, 7, 6(2 players)SB bets $120, Hero raises to $260, SB raises to $964 (All-In)

Here's what I did:Started off at play money tables and read some of the books mentioned above until I was comfortable with the nuances of the game (yes, I just said nuances)...then I deposited $75 and played small/micro stakes for 1-2 years until I could win at these lower levels (~100K hands). Eventually I couldn't improve my game any further on my own and subscribed to Cardrunners ( I wouldn't recommend this step too early though)...this by far made the biggest difference for me. Move up levels only when you have accumulated cash (a buffer/bankroll) at the lower levels.

lol...no, just means I play a lot...doesn't necessarily imply success!

I was able to build up to Step 5 twice in June when trying to qualify for the WSOP. I never got a shot at Step 6. In '09 I will be tempted to use 131K FPP's for 1 shot at Step 6. Any thoughts?I would hate to lose knowing that I could use the points for $2K in gift certificates at Future Shop.

I am going to teach my children that life, like poker, is really just a series of decisions. When making a decision in life, like in poker, you need to consider all of the variables at play in order to make the best decion possible. In the long run, the most successful people will have made the best decisions along the way. Life, like poker, has a huge luck element and we cannot control the results...we should try and focus on good decision making knowing that in the long run things should work out. Bad beats and bad decisions will happen both in poker and in life...as long as you learn from y

Getting Asked To Leave A Table (online)
wheezer16 replied to wheezer16's topic in General Poker Forum
$3/6 NLThe last time it happened there were 3 people at the table, and the big stack said that he/she was planning on leaving if another big stack sat down (because their whole roll was on the table), so could I please not sit in. -
There have been a few occasions lately where I sit down at a full ring table where there are only 2-3 players, and 1 of the players asks me to sit out...presumably because they have a fish on the line. First time, no big deal. Now I'm starting to get annoyed. Is this an fu situation, or is courtesy in order?

In my experience, most players with a set are raising me on the flop to try and build the pot and hoping that I can't lay down AK. At that point I figured him for either Ax or something like 99 (calling my semi-weak flop bet in position to see how I play the turn). -

I was going for a check-raise on the turn. With this hand I didn't figure I'd be able to get it all in. I would have settled for a good size turn bet to try and push me off the hand. Side note...I lost 1K last month when my JJJ lost to 888 when an 8 came on the turn...almost happened again...I consider this poker justice! Pay it forward. -

NLHE.I have grown very comfortable open raising with 4xBB. My post-flop play is pretty solid.Small ball proponents tend to recommend 2.5-3xBB.Any strong opinions about this issue?
-
Full ring NL cash games ($2/4 - $3/6)...I'm raising with a solid range of hands from various positions and will ocassionally get 3-bet...often my hands are not strong enough to 4-bet, but the question is when should I be calling vs. folding. When in position I will typically call with pp's. When out of position I still often find myself calling with pp's hoping to hit a set. With big suited connectors should I be folding to 3 bets when IP and OOP. Assume for now that I don't have any reads on my opponents. Thanks in advance.

My Ever Growing Frustration With This Game.

I was in the same boat as you. I joined Cardrunners, see results below:http://www.fullcontactpoker.com/poker-foru...p;#entry2701970 -
Mine can see into the future!!

The first graph was mostly $.50/$1NL and some $1/2NL.With the second graph I have climbed up to mostly $2/4NL and $3/6NL, and have even now dabbled in $5/10NL.

A SINCERE thank you to all FCP'ers for your help in turning my game around. I know that I am not a central member of this community but I visit daily and post occasionally and have definitely benefitted from your collected wisdom.I am a recreational player and started playing roughly 4 years ago...1st play money, then I got up the nerve to deposit $75 on UB and as a weak/tight player managed to GRIND out some money over 18 months playing $.25/.50NL...I then got frustrated with the ups and downs and quit for a year. Last year I decided to try again (this time on PS) and again was able to grind

Maybe I should set them up with a junior PS account (my 6 year old could probably figure this game out faster than me)!!!
