Sigh, i simply don't have the time at the moment to give a decent response. Did get a book from the library about Darwin, so i'll probably start reading that tomorrow andI think i'll have the time tomorrow for a reply. Anyway you were right i did get it from that website (via google) and i honestly thought it was a quote from Darwin, you were right that it in fact is an interpretation of his theory. Not a wrong one i think, but i did showboat it off as Darwin's own quote so i was wrongin that. I didn't mean to "troll" (didn't even know what that was till short), and i just wanted to have an in

"The whole point is that traits which confer an advantage are more likely to proliferate, and so you get a process in which organisms become more and more suited to their environments over time. While variation in the genome is an essential ingredient for the process, and some of that variation comes by means of genetic mutation, it is entirely missing the point to refer to the process itself as "accidental"."So evolution is created trough adaption to the enviroment according to you ? But where does this adaption to enviroment come from ? Mainly by genetic mutation am i wrong , the genes adapt

What Books Are You Guys Reading?
The Walrus replied to LadyGrey's topic in Entertainment: Television, Movies & Music
Just started in Plato , Socrates life and death. I can probably tell you more about it as i read along , at the moment they're discussing Eros , god of love , and it always amazes me how intelligent alot of these Athens were , especially for their time , not just Plato and Socrates but most of the people joining in these philosophical discussions ( symposia ) like Agathon and Faidros. Anyway so far it has kept me reading . -
Badly affect her acting career ? Are you kidding me , this woman finally get's some quality A media attention .. which is really hard with a chin like that ! Wouldn't be surprised if she got her own late night MTV reality soap , where shegets locked up in a big house somewhere in the pacific and with only a pack of matches and a computerwith no internet access ( which she finds out in season 3 ) she has to lure in 13 13 year old boys , in order to cash 1000.000 $ .. hell i'd watch it .

Pretty much all mutation is part of evolution am i wrong ? There is something called Somatic Mutation, this occurs in non-reproductive cells and won’t be passed onto offspring , so i guess that's an exception. The only mutations that matter to large-scale evolution are those that can be passed on to offspring. These occur in reproductive cells like eggs and sperm and are called germ line mutations. As i mentioned before i'm not an expert when it comes to bio-science and evolution , and someone will without any doubt try to slap me in the face again with their wikipedia wisdom. I guess Mutation i

Yea cause bottle feeding and changing someone's diaper is related to the fact that he's trying to convince me by saying "hey go look it up on wikipedia , i'm right u know but wikipedia or google can tell u all about it" .. that's just simply lazy , and therefore i asked him to explain it in his own words.Instead i still got a quoted response from wikipedia , which shows me how much you guys really know yourselves , and how much wikipedia appearantly feeds you. "Also I think you're confusing evolution as being a process of "chance." In some respects it is "random," and in other respects it's th

Why don't you tell me more then , instead of letting me google it.If you're convinced there are fallacies in my statement , tell me what they are so i can respond.I'm not going on some journey to disprove myself.

What Is The Last Movie You Saw?
The Walrus replied to Alter-Ego's topic in Entertainment: Television, Movies & Music
Hrm i kinda had 8 beers before i watched yes man , so i didnt go and analyse it as "profound" as you did. Can't a man just share his view without it being "a review for the masses" as you call it ? I usually save my profound thoughts for stuff that really matters , so if u want a discussion, go to the religionforum and start anything. This just looked like you have aloooot of time on your hands , sorry but i didnt even bother reading it all , first 4 sentences were enough for me. -
What Is The Last Movie You Saw?
The Walrus replied to Alter-Ego's topic in Entertainment: Television, Movies & Music
Saw Yes Man with Jim Carrey , real jim carrey style movie , love jim carrey so loved that movie On a scale from 1 to 10 i'd say 8,5. Also saw australia and i could think of a million better ways to spend my time than wasting almost 3 hours of my life on a couple of aboriginals and nicole kidman moving cattle around. On a scale from 1 to 1000 i probably give that one a 2. -
My random observation was after i finished watching a movie with my friend and a couple of girls. Movie was australia and utterly boring ( took them 2,5 hours to move some cattle ) , but there wasthis one scene that was slightly more interesting where the japs bombed Darwin , Australia. Anyway i was talking about this scene after the movie with one of the girls that sat next to me , and she said something like "Yea that was the only scene u were really looking at with ur eyes wide open and this interesting look" .. which kinda freaked me out cause it meanth she wasn't looking at the movie , bu

"Hey walrus, r u from thje part of holland that is perpetually high, or the part that sells women in windows?"Try to stay away from the forums when ur drunk. To respond to your question i'm from the part where people arestarting to degenerate back to monkeys, due to incest. And to the question why i made that last remark.Because it was part of Darwins believe that everything in nature has come about through accidental, unguided purposelessness.Which is an essential part of his theory and one i can't agree with. The chances that a one cell organism evolves into human beingsas we know them today

" You have to live on the edge a little bit if your a big gambler and thats what you love, theres gotta be a little bit of risk you know, you gotta walk on that edge where it hurts a little bit if you loose, and it just makes everday in your life exciting " - Chip ReeseIf you quote Chip Reese , at least get the ****ing spelling right Mark.

No no , i never said i believe in that stuff. I'm just sharing different opinions on this matter , i myself am still searching and therefore considder myself agnostic. "but basically what they believe"This was the quote that i started with , not "what i believe".Don't get me wrong , i do agree on certain points , otherwise i wouldn't have posted it , but i don't believe in the whole theistic evolution "theory".
-
I know this is a bit of an old thread , and i didn´t read all that was said here so if i´m copying anyones work don´t slap me .I know for a fact that evolution and god ( the christian god ) are very compatible and here in holland there are plenthy of christian scientists who can't deny the facts of evolution , and also have a strong believe in the existence of the christian god. Now it would be too much work to go really deep into this , but basically what they believe is that god first created the earth and after that he created man ( there might have been a huge time-span between those ). Some Atheist Told Me To Ask You Guys Why My Beliefs Are "unreasonable"
The Walrus replied to I heart God's topic in Religion
Isn't there a seperate forum anywhere for childish discussions ? I thought this section was about religion but all i can see is mr.Hollywood making a fool out of himself.. I haven't been on this forum for long, but then again it doesn't take long to recognise a fool.~Make love not war -
"IF there is a God, then there (he) make's no mistake's. If he gives life, we should not take that life away under any circumstance."I don't entirely agree with your way of thinking there. God might have created life in it's earliest form ( one cell creatures ) but that doesn't mean he has anything to do with life in it's current form, evolution is pretty much a fact these days , though that doesn't rule out the existence of a god..but it does mean that mankind evolved from little one cell creatures to what we are today , and the question is what was the hand of god in all of that , if there w

I think mr Al Gore will be sad when he reads this topic.. so much research and media attention for awareness of global conditions that will deteriorate etc. etc. .. At least we can stop worrying about all of that now and start thinking about making a big pink bow around the earth so god will recognise our cuteness and we will all go to my little pony - land where our virgins will be awaiting us , and lets hope to god they won't charge 3,8m$ like that cutiepie i read about in DN blog today. On a serious note , even IF all this maya fantasy stuff is true , it won't change a damn thing. If it's h

Isn't solipsism a version of "perception is reality" , not really directly related to "i think , therefore i am" by descartes , cause descartes was a rationalist , and solipsism is everything but rational.. it's logical though and consistent but not falsifiable , which means it cannot be proven nor be denied. Let's wait till one day a brilliant psycho-analyst stands up and finds some rational proof of solipsism ( if that's even a possibility ). Crap untill proven otherwise ;)p.s. didnt think my first post would be this unrelated to poker !
