  1. I think i might have guessed this oneWho is R.A.BIn one of the earlier books Sirius mentions his brother, Now im at work now so cant quite remember his first name but i think it was Remus or Regulas who was a death eater but it did begin with a RSo Remus/Regulas A Black would be my guess
R.A.B. is undoubtedly Regulus Black. In OOTP, while the kids are helping de-darkify #12, Grimmauld Place, (Sirius Black's house), one of the many objects that they find is " a locket that none of them could open".Almost certainly this is the stolen Horcrux from HBP.Mensch
  2. We're gonna give it a go at the Powerplayer freeroll tonight. I emailed UB when she started playing there and asked about avoiding even the suspicion of collusion, and they said, in essence, that we could play from the same IP, but stay off of each other's tables.JustBlaze, are you sure-sure-positive-sure? I don't intend to cheat or collude, but we would like to play together. If for no other reason than for bragging rights and the occasional "how about that move you put on guppie69!! that check on the turn because you were "scared" of that second King! Nice!" and other verbal stroking.Mensch

  3. Crossposting from "online" after 20 hours and no replies... I would like to play poker at the same table with my wife without having to go to the university to do so. But if we both log in and sit at the same table together, from the same IP address, the poker software would certainly notice, right? So no go.ButMy school lets faculty and students use a VPN client to access the campus intranet from off-campus, to use site-licensed software and such. A colleague explained to me "It basically gives your computer a campus ip address".Does anyone know enough about virtual private networking to verify or refute this? My understanding of internet protocol is limited, but I was under the impression that your IP address was assigned by your ISP when you logged on. Can a remote site actually change your IP address? And if so, can Frau Mensch and I sit at the same table at the same time from two computers in the same house without sending up a red flag?Mensch

  5. If you are not a math wiz, then "working out" a natural logarithm is going to be next to impossible for you. Trust me, I'm a math wiz and I can't do it by hand. what you are thinking about is a logarithmic progression for tournament scoring, which winds up emphasizing first-place finishes, while consistently high finishers who never hit the big one are left out in the cold. a geometric progression is nearly as bad.A progression like dna4ever described rewards consistently good players. A one-hit wonder who rides a hot rush of cards to a single first-place and rarely ever cashes otherwise doesn't unfairly benefit over someone with a half-dozen top 20 finishes.I would assume dna uses a spreadsheet or similar setup to keep track of the N.O., perhaps he could share the file?Mensch

  6. I know this one is easy, but I get more blank stares and stupid looks when I ask it to people. What is Neo's real first name in the Matrix?
Thomas. Thomas A. Anderson. As in "Doubting Thomas", meant as a symbol of his questioning nature and unwillingness to accept what he is told.Still waiting on an answer to the Basil Rathbone question.Mensch
  7. Fifty-eight dollars and change.Pot limit Omaha-8 $25 10 seat at PowerPlayer. I was playing with my free $25 and played A-2-Q-x. Hit QQ on the flop, bet the pot and had two callers, Hit the 2 on the turn and did it again, finally got all in on the river with a caller and scooped. No clue what he had. To put that in perspective, my entire poker bankroll at the time was a bit less than $100 inclusing the free $25 at PPlayer. So big time score for der Herr.Mensch

  8. Smash, I'm new here, so please forgive me if I am incorrect. Is your purpose on this site to respond to other peoples posts with insults? If so, keep up the good work!
You are partially correct.Smash speaks (well, types) the truth. It's often cold, harsh, ugly, and insulting, and a lot of people are too soft to take it. Screw 'em. Mensch
  9. you can't be serious, please tell me you're joking
The new people do so tell on themselves, don't they? The "2-pair should beat trips but not a set" was proposed by a former forum member. It's indicative of the general intelligence level of this person's posts, which, IIRC, also advocated folding when there is no bet to you and folding the best hand to avoid letting your opponent know what cards you are playing. This is part of the reason that this person is a former forum member.Mensch
  10. when I single table, I am massively up, and when I multitable 2 or more, I'm a little less than even.
2 or more? as in you can stay even at 2? and lose on 3 or 4? or do you lose at 2 also?I suggest just 2- tabling a few thousand hands at your current level Multi-ing is something that takes time to get used to. Look at your results at that point, and if you're happy, either start 3-tabling or move up. Mensch
