  1. Ok ... it's later ... and I'm thanking you. Got the book last week, about half way through, and it's just great. Great thinking situations. Thanks for the tip.
  2. Time to change the title to "Official Steelers SUPERBOWL thread"!
  3. Thanks! And thanks for the info.If I make it to the Bellagio and see a guy in their early 20's running over the 80/160 game, should I assume it's you? :-)
  4. we may be talking about different time frames....my outlook is 6 months and nasdaq 2,600-2,800 as long as we can hold the 1,244 mark. if we do i think we break out. is your short term bearishness over the next month or so? maybe a few bear put spread options?http://www.fullcontactpoker.com/poker-foru...&highlight= Do either of you fellas use the ADX much? Over the years it has become my favorite coincidental indicator, by far.
  5. That's interesting that you mention that. I've been thinking about this a lot over the last year or so. I actually think it's probably pretty close as the failure rate for traders and poker players are very similar. I also think it might be easier to make a million dollars a year trading than playing poker given a large enough bankroll. But I sometimes wonder if it's easier to make $50k - $100k a year playing poker given only a small bankroll. I guess that might depend a lot on style. One thing I have noticed, though, is that newer traders are usually taught to treat trading like the busin
  6. I'm posting this in strat because ... well ... this is the only place worth posting anything. Two quick questions I just thought of for next month's trip:1) Is LHE a 5-bet cap everywhere, instead of 4 bets?2) Is there a cap head's up, or no?Thanks.
  7. Yikes. With those stats, villian is a straight-forward, SSHE TAG. What's he raising and capping with that you beat?On rare occasion, against a TAG that I know WELL, who I think would raise the flop with air, heads up in position, I might smooth call the flop raise and gaybet/fold the turn. But that's rare, and it usually ends up being a spew.
  8. Yeah ... some of us ... well me at least ... know where you're "from". I really enjoy your posts there so if you're ever bored, please feel free to cross post here.Leaf -
  9. What. A. Game. I got two more chapters worth of material for my book in just the last six minutes of that game. Wow.
  10. Pre-flop and flop seem standard.Given the reads you gave, I probably bet the turn and fold to a c/r.River seems standard. What would be a trickier decision is if you bet the turn, got called, and it checked to you on the river. Not sure what I'd do then.
  11. I like to stick my head in a gas oven and breathe ... deeply. After that, and a liter of Crown, I've forgotten all about the downswing ...
  12. Sure. The more the better, obviously, but this stat stuff can get out of hand in a hurry, so 100 sessions should give you a good idea.
  13. Actually, Christianity is the second-NEWEST major, still-practiced religion on earth(~33AD). Only Islam is newer (~700AD). Confucionism, Buddhism, Hindu, and Shinto, are all at least 1000 years older. Your western-ness is showing...Unless one believes that Biblical Christianity is an extension of Judaism, that it is one "long story"; i.e. that Christ is the Messiah to the Jews, prophesied of in the Old Testament, and that the God of the Old Testament and the God of the New Testament are one and the same.In that case, Biblical Christianity would be one of the oldest religions, certainly the
  14. You need a ton of sessions to get an accurate Standard Dev., and how useful it is is debateable, but how to calculate it can be found here:http://www.bet-the-pot.com/bankroll-standa...ion-page43.html

  16. Realize that if you want to be a winning player over the LONG term, you'll be well served by treating poker as a business, even if you don't need the money. Your bankroll is your "inventory", your "tool of the trade". Treat it like it's irreplaceable, even if it's not. This means going slowly. It means not moving up too fast, or worry about someone else and how they're playing higher than you or winning more than you. Just worry about yourself. As a market wizard once told me, "Your trading account is your VERY SERIOUS LIVELIHOOD, protect it!" I believe the same applies to poker, even if
  17. Aren't all bond guys? I've been told it's a prerequisite for the job!
  18. This would be one of the biggest windfalls of all time, and one of the dumbest moves a winning player could make.
  19. Good tip. Doesn't Emeril also have his other Vegas restaurant in the MGM? A New Orleans style seafood place? It's funny you mention that, I JUST saw this on the Travel Channel last night. All my wife (who loves wine) could say was, "Oh ... wow!"Thanks for all the great ideas. If you come up with anything else, please share!
  20. Update is I loved it. Really helpful book. Teaches you how to play against different opponents and how to navigate difficult situations. I'm going to read it again very soon.Much obliged.
  21. Pacific doesn't allow rakeback. They only offer one bonus, the signup bonus. The last reload they did was almost two years ago. You can only play one table at a time. The software is glitchy. And even after all that, it's my favorite place to play. Why? Softest games on the net ... bar none. It's not even close.
  22. That's very interesting. I've always wanted to visit as my mom is chinese, but haven't had the chance yet. From what I understand, basic health standards on the agricultural side of the economy are lacking. That's one of the reasons why the various strains of bird flu always seem to start there.
  23. Who ever wrote that article, I want to know what he's smoking. I need to try some of that stuff.Dont expect China to take one for the team (and I'm not even sure they could if hey wanted to). They are moving full steam ahead. And their need for raw materials is directly tied to their manufacturing power. They're demand (inside China) and our demand (for their products) is driving their raw materials requests. How do they plan to stop that? The guy was John Mauldin, a pretty solid analyst. He wasn't making any sweeping predictions but he did say that China has already begun to slow their l
  24. I'm slightly confused by this statement. I guess by "whats" you mean the charts (technical analysis). Well "whats" are also macro economic factors (fundamental analysis) which is what I was trying to look at. You cant ingore those factors "just because the market has been ralying for X amount of months."After all, you're making a wager on the future. I think you need have a pretty good idea of "why."We can agree to disagree on this, not a big deal. This is the crux of the "great debate" between fundamental and technical analysis. One school of thought feels like investing without knowing
