  1. Just got back 10 days ago. You can play 1-2NL anywhere and they all looked soft, although I was playing limit so I can't say for sure from one room to another. As far as the rooms themselves, the big name rooms were nice (Bellagio, Wynn, Caesar's) but I really, really like the MGM's new room the best. Open, airy, well lit, and ultra-modern. Good food on the table-side service menu.Have fun.

  2. Might be heading down to A.C. with the wife and another couple next month to meet up with the wife's sister and boyfriend who'd be coming up from Virginia Beach. We'd only be staying for two nights, driving down Friday and leaving Sunday. Just wondering where the best bang for the buck accomodations are in terms of a) decent hotel, B) decent price, c) decently located to anywhere else worth going.I'd probably only get to play Friday night, but would plan on playing late and would plan on playing low ... probably 5/10 limit ... where might be best for this?Any input would be greatly appreciated!

  3. Very nice, my friend. I'm also glad you're doing this.Question: If you're going to be keeping this particular section debate/flame free, would it be ok for us to post devotional-style scriptures as well if we see or come across something uplifting?

  4. it's my first over 100 BB's since the one I had after just playing 10k handsit's really sharp too. 100 BB slide in 900 hands.... and momentum still downward...
Yeah ... they're a blast aren't they? FWIW, I keep a printout of something someone here (Tim I think?) posted a while ago. I modified it slightly and call it "Eight Remedies for the Downswing".1) Play fewer tables.2) Eliminate distractions.3) Drop down a limit.4) Consciously take more time with each decision.5) Tighten up preflop.6) Tighten up postflop.7) Improve table selection.8) Concentrate!I suppose each person will have some of those that are more meaningful than others. #'s 2, 4, and 7 are huge for me. Anyway ... thought this might be helpful, and don't worry too much ... this too shall pass!
  5. In my opinion, it's cool that he still plays at stakes he can handle - and not just stakes he can afford. I don't think there are many poker players who have that kind of discipline.
It is nice to see. Hachem was seen playing 20/40 limit shortly after his win. A little humility goes a long way in this day and age.
  6. I'm in the midst of a huge downswing and its from hands like this..not necessarily this. But I get too attached and recall the hands the unknown was betting 99...
I also hate to give up to what might be a bluff or semi-bluff turn raise, but after the PF 3-bet it's going to be a set of tens a lot of the time. I don't think I could fold there but after the Ace hits I think check/fold is pretty easy with second pair, second kicker on a coordinated board. Is this your first bona fide, monitor-destroying, cat-kicking downswing?
  7. Ahh... I know this one. It scared the begeebies out of me when I first read it. Since it's impossible for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, I figured I was doomed, lol! Then it was explained to me, that the "eye of a needle" was what they called the entrance to castles where a camel would have to STRUGGLE to get under it and into the castle.
And furthermore ... if one continues reading that passage we see the following:"When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying, 'Who then can be saved?' But Jesus looked at them and said to them, 'With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'"The emphasis in this entire passage (dealing with the rich young ruler asking what he yet lacked) is that reliance on God is key, not reliance on self, on one's wealth, power, or what have you. The rich young ruler was clearly more attached to his wealth and power than he was to God and THIS is what causes problems ... any attachment to anything over and above one's devotion to God.
  8. I am just wondering what logic or reasoning you have to support the cause of the Christian poker player.
Hey there. The answer to this one is easy: Nowhere in the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, is gambling forbidden. If your girlfriend can find one verse, just one, that clearly states that gambling and/or wagering is a sin (she won't be able to), then she would have a reason to be upset over your playing. As it is, she is falling into the trap that many Christians fall into of accepting man-made rules (the Catholic church, not the Bible, declared gambling sinful sometime in the 13th or 14th century) as scripture, rather than consulting the scriptures themselves. All the best, and I hope things work out with your girl.Leaf -
  9. Does this not work wiht partys new software?
You need the latest Beta version (beta release 'f' I believe), and you have to point it to the correct file. You can't see stats on observed tables, but you can see stats at tables once you're seated AND playing (not sitting out).
  10. Played a little at Party today for the first time since the upgrade ... a little tighter but not TOO bad. Certainly not the TAG-hell that is Absolute or Crypto full ring.Biggest adjustment is not being able to pre-select good tables.

  11. Im pretty much a newbie to live poker ive only really played in a casino once and a few home games 99% of my play is online. I play mostly 5/10 limit shorthanded. And im a winning player (3bb/hr) Everyone has said how much easier it is to beat live games compared to online games. Im probably gonna start going to the casino a lot more and im just wondering what level would be appropriate for me to play.
Welllllll ... it's going to depend somewhat on time of day, day of week, where the casino is, that kind of stuff, but overall, as a winning 5/10 6-max player you're not going to have any trouble skill-wise 'til much higher up. My advice, FWIW, is just play wherever your bankroll comfortably allows you to. Just remember to re-adjust to a full-ring, fish-filled mentality.
  12. oops, my bad. Sorry if I posted in the wrong forum. He said 500 big bets if are trying to become a pro which I am. I think that was the part that shocked me about the high big bet amount was that taking money out to live like a pro does was not part of it. He said just trying to become a pro and you should have this bankroll. I am trying not to take anything out of bankroll and just build it up and up. I am going to go with this advice. I mean afterall, he is the pro and I am not yet. Someday :-) But not quite there yet. Currently playing .25/.50 Limit. I have a long way to go. :?
Keep in mind that 300BB is not some magic number. It comes from a mathematical formula which calculates how big a bankroll you need to avoid going broke based on your winrate and your standard deviation (how big your swings are). So this number can be bigger or smaller than 300BB depending on the player. As for 500BB, I think if your goal is to never go broke, then the more the better.
  13. I don't think there's one standard "best" line here. Reads would be helpful. If I think there's ANY chance a small club folds to a bet, I bet, as that's likely the only way I can win the pot.If I think there's NO chance of CO folding, and ANY chance he'd bet a non-club hand, I check/call. I just don't see enough non-club hands calling to make me think this is a value bet here.If I think there's NO chance of CO folding, and NO chance he'd bet a non-club hand, I'm check/folding.Hard to make a blanket decision without reads.

  14. Would the bonus clear at a decent rate at .5/1 and 1/2.. or do you basically have to play 1/2 for the rake to be high enough?
All the Cryptos have brutal clearing rates at 1/2 limit or lower. Somewhere around $4 per table per hour compared to $9 per table per hour at 2/4.
  15. (last time I went this summer it was, but they had planned on changing it to a incremental rake system:
They did. $1 if there's a flop, second dollar at $10, third dollar at $20, fourth (max) dollar at $30. Still a big impact at $1/$3.
