I'm trying to find an old post and I can't remember who the OP was or who gave the advice, but it has been linked a couple of times (I can't find those links either).It is a discussion about the merits of checking back 100% of your 3-bet range on an ace high board, arguing that it is often a "way ahead, way behind" situation.Does anyone have a link to the post? I'm having trouble finding it on my own without knowing when/where/who posted it.

Solid advice. I've been getting a lot of advice lately about small stakes online and live play and a lot of it boils down to "villain's tell you the story on the turn". Basically, your standard villain at these low stakes will almost always be telling you what he has by his turn play.The flat call in position on the flop, followed by a strong value raise on the turn is clearly telling you you're beat.And don't ever follow the "if I'm beat, I'm beat" mentality, unless you like being a calling stationNo no no no no no god please no. A thousand times no.Villain holds 9x or random QQ like 90% of the time here, 5% he's on air, and 5% he has like AQ. The flat paired board on flop, raise blank turn is like almost always the nuts. If villain had raised flop, then maybe you have a case.But on the turn, why on earth would we shove when we're never getting called by worse, and even calling the turn raise is questionable?

No, I'm not approving or disapproving of any particular strategy. Personally, I don't care if people SS or not. Those that do have a transparent strategy that is highly exploitable and, overall, are +EV for me. Except maybe the really good short stackers, which are few and far between.I'm just offering advice for the OP's particular strategy.EDIT: My original grammar didn't make any sense, had to fix it.So you're advocating hit and running? -
Why are you still at this table if you're short stacking and have already doubled up? Now you're just playing with a small-middle stack and handicapping yourself. Too much to shove preflop or flop (short stack strategy) and too little to play 3 full streets properly.As played, get it in earlier and fold the river.Leave the table if you've doubled up short stacking, or buy-in full. Don't play with a middle'ish stack, you're just cutting down on your options.

A 4-bet bluff is similar to any other bluff, in that it has to tell a consistent story that your villain will believe.If you're 4-betting PF OOP, what does this tell the villain? You're strong and not afraid to play this hand aggressively OOP. Also, villain told you something when he flats the 4-bet in position. He wants to play you and see what you do, but isn't willing to shove PF (I suspect he would with AA/KK/AK, maybe QQ, as he wouldn't expect you to fold to the 5-bet). This tells us a bit about his range. . .Now, with a board like what you've got and you repping a 4-bet PF range, what would you do if you DID have a hand? Of course you wouldn't check the flop and turn! Except, possibly, if you had exactly QQ and hoped to trap.For your story to be consistent, you need to bet the flop/turn (one or both depending on villain's reactions). Checking your action twice is going to get you looked up on the river here a lot by any PP or AK, as you've basically told villain that you either missed entirely or have exactly QQ.Thanks for the advice guys, i am not really familliar with 4 bet bluffs and spots like this. Seems like i indeed should have bet flop or turn. Anyhow i bet the river for 13 and he folded for those who want to know. -
I think flatting here is out of the question, for reasons stated above. You're either folding or shoving.My only hesitation to shoving here is the small re-raise. At the $10NL, I honestly can't remember the last time I've seen a small 4-bet be anything but AA/KK. This bet size screams of an amateur player saying "I have a great hand and desperately want you to put more money into the pot".I'm actually more inclined to call an all-in 4-bet as your average player at this level will show up with TT+/AK. The tiny 4-bet is almost never anything but AA/KK.Of course, it's $10NL and we've got queens, so I probably donk off a buy-in here, 5-bet, and watch him turn over AA.

Since people are bumping stuff left and right at the moment, here's a question.Do you still agree with your play here?I'm inclined to follow Acid's logic about needing multiple reads to be spot on giving you a marginal win vs. being wrong anywhere and taking a big loss.Also, since you put him on basically one hand (and the 7h on the river confirming he wasn't playing a combo draw), do you consider min-raising this river?bump cuz acid knight said my logic here was sound. -

I didn't win the hand, I had the A7 and got myself all-in on the turn against middle pair that hit 2 pair on the riverJust because you won the hand doesn't mean this was the right play or if this was a good play.Yes, it's only for mods..

You're at a micro stakes with a concealed boat. No villain at this level is folding a jack. They are fistpumping thinking "I just crushed his pair of aces".If you got played set over set, then so be it, you're probably stacking off like that anyway. Your friend seems to be thinking only of the hands that beat you, and not how a villain in this position would play a hand that they think is best.<-----[x] pussyI called, he was on total air. Agreed, the only hand that now beats you that didn't already was AJ, and you now have crushed a ton of his range that he's willing to stack off with. Shove it and watch him ship it.

I'm going to go ahead and agree with the above posters, with one small exception.If you're on a weak table and are confident that a raise from MP will buy you position and the blinds are known to defend and then c/f unless they hit big, these hands may be profitable here.Of course, ATC would be profitable in that situation, but Ax will give you the fallback of catching top pair and most likely being ahead.Otherwise, though, playing Ace-rag from MP is almost always a leak, so be happy to dump it and move on.

This I do already, and am killing micro stakes because of it. But, I don't want to just "be fine", my enjoyment in poker comes from playing my best and constantly striving to improve. And, of course, "stacking fools"really you should be fine if you just follow the basics,raise liberally in positionplay tight from OOP3-bet for valuestack fools postflop
.But it's the striving to improve part that I'm looking for more resources on, I'm at a point where I feel I'm playing my best but unable to improve myself without outside perspectives that force me to rethink what I think is "the best".Hence, lots of FCP posts, new reading materials, and a solid online video collection

I ended up checking the river and the button pushed. I folded after nearly timing out.UTG showed

KdJd for top pair and a made flush on the turn
.What I wondered after the hand is whether or not the fold is +EV on the river and if I could have gotten away lighter on the turn, knowing that both villains called my flop bet and a bunch of draws came down on the turn.

I'm on a 24" and, honestly, any bigger and it would get uncomfortable. Too big, too close, you can't see what's going on at once.Unless you sit way back and are more comfortable like that, go with the 24", imo.$250 for a 28" off brand or $179 for a 24" dell?I remember two years ago when anything above 22" was instantly 3-4x more expensive. -
Has anyone read this book? Is it any good? I'm not experienced playing 6handed at all but am making a serious push at it, as I've been getting told left and right that 6handed is considerably more profitable/fun than full ring.I'm not up to speed on poker names, is this Ashman guy worth reading and/or listening to?Any other source material on short handed play worth reading?I'm crushing the $10NL game on Stars right now, but a blind monkey could do that, so I wanted to cover all my bases before making a move.

I just tried to find you, but you weren't playing plo. I did get to see you get donked out of a tourney, KJ>AK though. That's not so much soul crushing as the classic "sigh and eye roll".We seem to perhaps have a good group going here, and it'd be nice if we could keep regular activity in this forum and help each other get better. I've made some shit decisions that I think only Tskillz and MT were around for, got myself in legal trouble, and... hell if you're that interested its somewhere in this 300pg thread...I'm still online because the decision is not "official" (pending this coming Tuesday); although I won't play a single hand until it isn't (up to 9 years) simply because my emotions about this are so huge i couldn't focus.Also, Tskillz... please pm me your full tilt handle. I'm gonna get a rakeback payment friday that I won't be able to cash it out cuz it's too small, and I'd at least like the $ to go to someone who's advice has earned me that much.. Not you, your situation. I guess my previous statement stands, fix whatever business you have and keep yourself on track! And get back to poker and FCP soon.

This is part of the mentality I have in situations like this, and I think it's really dangerous. We have to think that not only did one villain stick around on a scary'ish board, but two did. So one (or both) think they have 2 other people beaten. And then we have to keep in mind that yes, odds are nice, but we are trying to take out 2 villains here, not just one.Can we fold considering how big the pot is and how much of our stack is already in the middle? I'm not sure we can beat both villians but I don't think I could lay this down.
Do you think that, with anything less than the nuts, this bet is just value-owning ourselves, for the very reason you listed above?Pot control on the turn and a willingness to let an overpair go against a board with completed draws and 2 willing villains seems to be the best play imo.I would check the turn. Your first to bet on the turn with two people flat calling your flop bet. The 8 fills a few draws that either player could have. I think your turn bet is just bloating a pot on a dangerous board for your hand.Without a diamond, I would almost want to check down as cheaply as possible and possibly fold if both players show a lot of interest in the hand.Your betting $4 on the turn leaves you getting around 5:1 odds on the river. With only about $5.15 left in your stack, I can't see you folding for that. -
