  1. You're probably going to have to show down a bad hand early to get them to believe you. I consider that 'investing' in your table image. I did that once at Bellagio no-limit cash game, and after they saw me bet heavily with a J10 with only the 10 on board (got beat by A10), I got all kinds of calls - of course from that point on, I held excellent hands and easily recovered my initial 'investment' and in fact doubled my buy-in. The situation has to be right, though. Good players will likely not fall for this.Truth be told, though... I believe a better strategy is to just play a solid game. Esp
  2. UNC and Duke are going down... if for no reason other than the ACC was so overhyped. Duke tonight, UNC on Sunday.GO BIG TEN!!! (especially the Badgers - we KNOW Illinois will be there at the end...)
  3. That sure seems like a lot. Are you saying that to play the $200 buy-in 2-4 no limit game like those offered at Mandalay or Bellagio, you should have a $6000 bankroll?I thought I'd read somewhere that 500 bb is good. Am I wrong?
  4. I don't care about the quality of the media, I care about the quality of the content. And the bottom line is that it improved my game dramatically.I'd recommend it to anyone. My only complaint is that Howard is SOOOO dry and monotone...
  5. The 'trying to peek at the cards as the dealer flips them' is a bit much...
  6. The Stars SNG format is better too, as blinds don't increase as quickly (unless you play the Turbo SNG)
  7. Great illustration of the importance of counterfeit protection, as so many players overplay their A2 without that protection (as your opponents did in this hand).
  8. Jen Harman - if not for her past health problems, she'd probably be considered the best woman player on the planet, definitely one of the best overall! Now that she's healthy, I'd expect her to outshine the other two.
  9. This is a great point - it definitely is not personal, and he is probably charging himself up as much as tilting the table.I also love it when someone self-destructive comes to the table - if you can keep yor cool, it's just a matter of being in the right place at the right time... someone is going to take their money!
  10. I agree. It's one thing to put an opponent on tilt with a little talking, but after you've beaten them, maybe then would be the time to show a little class - or at least just shut up.I'm OK with the tactic of trying to get under an opponent's skin, but that display was absolutely classless.
  11. 10x the BB is fairly short stacked, so it is probably time to get all in with the best hand you're going to get. The other guy made a bad call with the QJ. I can only assume he had enough chips to afford a call like that. You got all your money in with the best hand, and your read was right. He gambled and got lucky. However, you didn't mention his stack - if he had you badly outchipped, then perhaps it would be right to consider folding, since he could afford to gamble, which is what he chose to do.
  12. Yeah, flush chasers are probably the worst kind of bad beats, except maybe runner-runner full house...Don't worry, after this happens 20-30 more times, you'll kind of be numb to it, and able to move on without upsetting your game!
  13. Given that you have about 5 blinds left (assuming you're not close to a blind increase), there is a good chance that this is the strongest hand you will see. The odds are very close, but given the circumstances, I say call...
  14. Thanks for the info, I will call and check, and when I get official confirmation, I will repost.I'm going May 12th-15th, wish me luck!
  15. Seems to me that if you are a winning player, it would be better to take the time charge. Your costs are fixed - whereas if you are winning big pots (or lots of small pots) with a rake, you would pay more.
  16. Golden Nugget, Aladdin, and Orleans all offer 2/4 limit games. Mirage offers a 3/6 limit game. If you're looking for no-limit, I enjoyed the Manadalay $200 buy-in $2-5 game. many places also offer a game similar to this (Aladdin, Mirage, Bellagio)There are also $25 buy-in tourneys at Mandalay and Luxor (at 10 am, I think). Blinds do increase quickly. Get there early to get a seat, though - registration starts 3 hours before the game. Golden nugget has a dily 11am tournament, and Orleans offers lots of low buy-in tourneys.
  17. My friends and I are planning a bachelor party in Vegas. As some members of the party are willing to spend more than others, we were limited to staying somewhere on the less expensive side. However, I heard that many poker rooms offer a reduced room rate if you play for a certain number of hours and book the room through the poker room.Specifically, I heard that Wynn will be offering a rate of $129 Sun-Thurs, adn $199 Fri and Sat. for 6 hours of play per day. I also heard that Bellagio offers the same rates. Does this sound accurate?Does anyone know of rates at other higher-end Strip Casinos?A
  18. Any idea when they are opening this casino in Kenosha?I went to the Ho-Chunk poker room in the Dells (when it was open), played 2-4, 5-10, and 10-20 there, as well as a tourney or two, and it was pretty nice. I saw recently they haven't renovated the room even though poker is shut down. Do they have any plans to re-open it?
  19. Is the recommended bankroll requirement for each level of play still 300BB in O8?I'm just wondeing if the lower variance relative to hold'em doesn't suggest that perhaps you can move up with less.Thanks...
