  1. Hey guys. It's kinda strange how things happen when you're all caught up in things and then you are dropped you back down to earth to make you realize what is really important.Today I found out that my Dad has a large cancer on his mouth. He may have let it go too long but they believe they can still remove it all. He has several spots on his body but they think they are small and can be removed. My parents want me to take my wife and go on the trip and "win a million" but at the moment, poker doesn't seem that important. Thanks for the responses during the post. I'll have to see how th
  2. I hear ya. I just didn't want to offend anyone but after posting here, I really don't care. I just read Daniels blog and had read what the idiot posted on the site about how he couldn't be a Christian if he was rich and thought I would have a little prayer before the ME. I wasn't going to pray for any one person but after reading some of these post, I've changed my mind. The Bible says for me to pray for my enemies so I am going to pray for each and everyone of them as they shake my hand, wish the table good luck, and start that lonely walk to the lobby. This ought to be good....
  3. You always did look like a Joe freak to me. Good luck with that.
  4. I hearya dude and I didn't mean to hit the add. It's late and I got a little goofy. Sorry man.
  5. What's the problem with nicknames anyway? Paul "You ain't gotta prayer" BrevardHeck, I knew Mr. Lanette and he was a large white Swedish guy and his real nickname was...."Bigger Nate" Lanette. The B is next to the N on the keyboard and Doyle told me that he meant to hit the B. He also meant that he is not racist against large people, especially since he has gained a little weight himself. Typos are a bad thing. Just like a story I heard. The Pope died and went to Heaven. He asked to go to the great library to see where all the actual writings of the Bible and such were kept. He wanted to
  6. So I guess that means you're not coming?
  7. Thanks for the response. I must say that I haven't seen the Jerry Yang stuff but you know, I wonder how much of that was to put the guys on tilt. Whatever it was, apparently it worked. Of course it makes us look like weirdos. There are many people who label themselves as Christians and act totally opposite. I can only try to imitate Christ and his examples. I really don't think that he told us to pray for someone else to lose. I think he would allow us to pray for guidance and acceptance of an outcome that we might not agree with but I would never be able to ask him for an Ace on the ri
  8. I have to tell you a funny story about the praying to Satan thing. I had a friend that liked to study UFO's. I'll admit, he was a little to the left but oh well. There was another guy in our show that wanted to witness to him so he would stop studying that stuff. I told the guy that he shouldn't witness to anyone until his life was straight. Anyway, my friend got a picture of him and some candles and started holding rituals. They guy left him alone. As far as the Tata or Bahas or whatever your name is. If you believe you live in a country that should not allow me to pray in public, you n
  9. I am not just inviting Christians. I don't even think Muslims would be upset with the prayer we will pray. It will just be a simple prayer of thanks. I wouldl like to invite all faiths. This is not a "Christians only club".Good luck guys and see you at the Main.
  10. Look guys, I don't want to keep this post going but I'll give you a short answer. The problem with being a Christian Poker player is this. Christians tell you that it's a sin to gamble and don't understand the skill and non-believers tell you that you lose all your rights to express yourself in public. Such as having a silient moment away from everyone to have a silent prayer thanking God for his blessings.I guess I should just look at it as though I am going to war. In reality, I shouldn't care if I offend anyone. You know, in reality, if a guy is offended by prayer I should stand up and pr
  11. Thanks Flint!I will let you guys know how poorly I am doing out there, even if it tears at me to do so. Thanks for the encouragement. I played the WSOP Sat on Thurs and placed 13th. Not too good but it could have been worse. Thanks again!Paul
  12. Guys, please forgive me for starting this entry. Let me show you the site that really got me started and you tell me what you think about it and then tell me what you think about some of the responses of non-believers on this site.http://www.thepokerchronicles.com/archives/2007_04.htmlI read this before I read Daniels post on myspace and realized that we do need a little place off to ourselves, away from everyone so that we do not force others to join us and give each other a little support. He mentioned that it lifted his spirits when a Christian friend contacted him during an event. To te
  13. Good replies all. Ak, I hope to meet you in Vegas. You sound like a great player and a person with a great heart. The reason I posted the other "Prayer blog" was for this reason. Please go to the site and you'll see why it kinda bugs me how Christians are bashed by all sides. All most of us want is to be able to get together and have a silent moment of prayer, not to win, but to thank God for our health, family and friends that that we will accept the outcome of the day, be it good or bad. This site is what got me going the other day.http://www.thepokerchronicles.com/archives/2007_04.htmlThan
  14. Ak, I guess you might be right is some aspects. It's just that I've always looked at being a Christian like this. I hate going into the church and having the preacher say "If you die before you leave here today or get hit by a car when you leave, YOU ARE GOING TO HELL!" It does get across to some people but what kind of Christian does it make? I look at it like this. If you beat a child every day and tell them to be good, most will out of fear. When they get away from you though, they might become wild children because they are finally free!!!!! Now, if you love a child and discipline t
  15. I have no idea why he didn't respond. Maybe he felt he should pray about his response. Maybe he feels that if he does respond he will start a never ending blog where he has to defend what he should not have to defend. I don't know. All I know is that I am grateful that someone like him has the courage to say that he is a Christian Poker Player. That takes a lot of guts and I should know. You are so right about fake Christians. There are so many that claim to be a Christian but yet they will judge others for their beliefs, preferences, or whatever. The way I look at it is this. I am not
  16. Thanks guys for the replies.I don't want to offend anyone at the WSOP. I just wanted to know if anyone would like to meet, in private, and say a small prayer. Just a prayer of thanks for our safe arrival, health, peace with the outcome of the day and that we are not seated next to Hevad Khan, Matasow, or Helmuth. Seriously though. I don't want to shove my faith down anyone's throat. I can't think of any other group that is attacked the way we are. Guys act like total idiots when they have a bad beat and everyone just lets it fly. I ask for a small prayer away from everyone so that we don
  17. I know that I am going to get blasted for this, though I hope you read this with leaniancy. This will be my first trip to the Main Event and I have no idea if they already do this there. If so, please forgive my ignorance and tell me where they do it. I would like to know if anyone would like to gather at the Main Event this year for a prayer. I would invite Daniel or Jerry to lead us if they would like too. If not, I'll lead a short one for us. I was extremely impressed with the courage it took for Daniel to talk about his faith and would hope that I would have that same courage. It's not eas
  18. Is it ok for non-believers to bring their beliefs to the poker table? I never say anything to the guy that shouts God's name in vain on a bad beat but I do see people that are offended if I bow my head silently before an event begins. How many post are placed here objecting to GD being said that the table?Just a question. I am not judging but I do find it strange that no one is offended by Phil's Fits. They even laugh at him and place them on the internet. Why do people find it offensive when a guy is excited and thankful to his creator for giving him a free will to make the right calls a
  19. I meant to put this on the General forum. Sorry Daniel. I was extremely impressed with the courage it took for Daniel to talk about his faith and would hope that I would have that same courage. It's not easy to be a Christian at the table sometime.
  20. This is a great idea. I don't look at this as though they are doing poorly. What it does is give the guys that are crying about the fee to get on and reallize how valuable the information is. Great idea Matt.
  21. I don't see how Daniel would ever have the time to give advice on guys hands through a tournament. I do think it would be a nice idea if PVT would give you like one or two personal questions a year that you could submit to Daniel. Kinda like picking a couple of your weakest spots instead of expecting him to answer a million questions during a tournament. It would also keep guys signed up longer if they knew they would get one question for every six months they are signed on. I know I would pay $400 to have Daniel answer a couple of questions on areas that I am having problems with. That w
  22. Thanks guys for the post guys. I'll tell ya the truth, it scares the crap out of me to think about playing with that many people. I have performed poorly in that atmosphere. I lasted 27 minutes in New Orleans and only lasted past the first break in Scotty's Tulsa tournament. Any advice from the vets out there would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to the WSOP Academy the weekend before the main event and I will probably play in some of the tournaments around town that week to see if it improves how I play in large tournaments. I haven't found it yet but I hope they put information on pla
  23. I'm with Hightower on that question. For example: I have A-x in late position and have 5 limpers and make a 2.5x raise and everyone calls. It's happened most of the time to me lately. If the A-x hit, I won more but if not, it was a wasted bet. Do we just concentrate on the stack slowing rising over time in these situations or should we make the raise say 5x the blind when so many limp in?One last example that happened last night. I saw this twice by the same gut. He was out of position both times. I was in the big blind and he was in middle position. I caught Ace's (just like another
  24. Jam,Thanks man for the response. I'm sorry if it appears that I am spamming. I have to be honest and say that I have tried all the crap that the other guys have. For the average players like me, you have to admit, it is pretty amazing to go from no wins in about two years to winning this many times in 2 weeks. Yes, I am telling all the average Joe's out there that if they sign up and truly use the system, it will make a difference. I do not appologize for that. I hate infomercials myself. Everytime I see that guy playing poker that use to sell realestate systems that said "You afraid to
