Couple Of Quick Embarrasing Questions
Dobbo049 replied to Dobbo049's topic in No Limit Texas Hold'em Cash Games
great, im just confused now loli always thought kickers didnt matter in trips. if you both have 3 of a kind you spilt the pot? but thats why im asking u...to add to that heres another one thats always caused arguements...Assumeing im wrong and kickers do matter in trips, is your kicker the highest other card on the board & your hand or just your hand? because if its both then both you and your opponant could have the same set with the same kicker :S And in a Flush i always through if the highest card is on the board, its the 2nd highest card that counts?ThanksStu -
Ok just a couple of simple questions that just about everyone will knowthe reason they are embarrasing is because its basic poker rules that iv never realy looked up properly.1. Do kickers apply to hands like 2 pair and 3 of a kind?E.G.You Have A / K Opponant has A / 9 Board is 7 / A / 2 / A / Q Would you win or would it be a draw?2. When two players have a flush with the highest card an A on the board who wins?E.G. You Have J / K Opponant has 10 / Q :diamond:Board is 7 / A / 2 / 6 / A Because the highest card in both f

So how do u know for sure where your at?

ok thanks

So it all depends on that pre-flop raise?say your in middle position, 2 limpers, and the blinds are $5/$10How much would you raise? With it you can represent a bigger hand by raiseing post-flop...So if you where re-raised after your raise Post-Flop? Would you fold or call?ThanksStuP.S. sorry i ask alot of questions
-
Ok i see your point, im new and i just do what i read in books at the moment :)so for my sake....How would you play it?

ok let me rephrase...I only use feeler bets when i have somthing like 9 / 9 and the board is 3 / 7 / K And No one entered the pot wit ha big bet...there a chance i have the best hand at the moment but theres also a chance somone had a K with a weak kicker as they havent raised yet, so if i open with a small bet ill probly get called or raised against somone with a K I dont use them very often atall, just when i think i could be in the lead but somone Could have a better hand, i dont like to bet alot on a hand im not 80% certain is the best hand. because what if you think you have the bes

i only use feeler bets when i think i have a good hand but think somone may have a better one.By placeing a small but not minimal bet im showing that i have a hand, this will probbably force out anyone who has nothing (stopping them "getting lucky"), any one who calls ill assume they probably have some kind of hand so now i need to think what it may be. And somone who raises, depending on the size mite tell me that they may have an overpair or set.So i find them usefull but only in situations likes that, where your not sure if you have the best hand but dont know what your opponants mite have.

thanks much appreciated :)I dont like checking, because your just encourageing others to stay in the pot. They could have a flush draw and checking gives them a free card which if they dont hit they will fold and if they do. they will raise wich is 1/4 chance they will hit it...........so you just given them 25% of the potIt also gives people change with a low pair to wait and see if they get lucky and hit 2 pair of trips.

thats what i thort but wether he thinks they are gat or not does not answer my question

0 Big Blinds..........as in Somthing Less than the big blind?

Hey guys, me again...Been reading up on feeler bets (small bets used to get information for an opponant, to "see where your at") but dont know what size of a bet to go with. Obviously you dont wanna bet anything so small that everyone calls because defeating the object of getting rid of anyone "getting lucky". And is dosnt wana be so big that no one dares to call you...So can anyone give any advice on how much you bet as a Feeler Bet?ThanksStu

thanks i tend to watch alot of poker on TV and look at how people play hands, its interesting :)i watching a High Stakes poker on youtube at the moment and Daniel is doing pretty damm well

i dont know how the pot got to $400 because i made it up lolits not a real hand iv played but im writeing it asif i was playingIts just mostly to ask you if im thinking right and makeing the right size bets and raises. :)ThanksStu
-
thanksits all making scence now But lets update that situation and look at a couple of scenarios....say your hand is 3 / 3 and the board is K / 3 / 7 / Q Scenario 1The turn card is 6 not a card you wanted to see(your opponant is 1st to act, pot is say $400)Opponant bets $300...not what you wanted to see, im guessing the card made his flush so i would fold...but is that the rite thing to do? the pots odds are about 2.3/1 so not great but not too badOpponant Checkshmmm....now either it missed him and he hasnt got a flush atall. maybe just a pair of kings or queens with a decent kicker or

yes thanks it did so the one i tried to explain myself i was "Kind of" rite? :)and so in most situations you only need to count the odds when you have a draw or something? iv also been told to do it with a pair (for 3 of a kind) and two pair (for a full house)... but like you say its not worth doing when you have 3 of a kind and another pair on the board would make a full house... theres no point doing it there or just in that situcation because you already have a potentially good hand ?....Im getting there lolThanksStu

Anyone help on my last post?ThanksStu
-
thanks guysto be honest i kind of do it anyway when i have a straight or flush drawbut what if you already have a hand ?for example...(i rabbited on abit in this post but if u can be bothered to read it please let me know if im doing it right)say your hand is 3 / 3 and the board is K / 3 / 7 / Q So you have 3 of a kind wich is already a pretty good hand but your opponant may have a flush draw...Do you still count up your outs?which as i understand it would be 10 outs?the one 3 left for a 4 of a kind, and any of the remaining 3 K's 7's and Q's making a full house? So with 10 outs its about

thanksWhat i ment is i understand the idea of it, and how it works. Just not how im going to be able to quickly apply it to a game. Its just a big sum realy just i cant just do in my head :S so at a table i wouldnt know where to start stu

HeyIts me again(as some of u know im new to poker so go easy on me :)Iv been reading up alot on Expected Value and i understand it...But do people actually use it?I mean, in a tournement without a pen, paper and probably a calculator, surely you cant work out all the possible hands all your opponants may have, work out the chance of them holding one and the chance wether it will beat you, and then calculate your Your expected value on every move?So my main question is...Do people realy use it at the table? And is there a simpler way of doing it?ThanksStu

thanks very much :)stu

ok thanks Other that than i dont know much about making profitable calls/raises and folds which is another thing that gets me. Knowing when its profitable to call somone. i know it meens that in the long run you will make more money that you loose but what do you put it up against? if the pot odds are 1:3 for example, what do you compair that to? your outs? if so i presume it only works on the flop turn and river. you cant use it preflop?im not going to ask you to explain the hole thing, if you know of a good article explaining it ill be happy to read that Thanks Stu
