  1. Well there is where you're wrong. I don't think you know the consequences of Agent Orange exposure but it's lifelong. And yes she had health insurance both private and through the vets since her husband is an Army veteran. But she used up the lifetime benefit on her private insurance and since she had the pre-existing condition, most insurances wouldn't touch it at that time or the cost was exhorbitant. And I don't know if you know much about veteran's insurance coverage for spouses but it's a pittance. So don't judge before you know the facts.
  2. And I thought we agreed that we needed some rule of law. And if somebody is getting hurt and there's no law against it then there should be a law against it. I'm pretty much of a live and let live type person so I'm basically on the Libertarian side of the line. But not to the exclusion of laws against those who manage to scam people legally by just sliding under the present law. That's why we don't just dissolve Congress. Because for as many laws as are made, there are people looking to exploit others within the letter of that law.
  3. I expect that I'm anti-American if that includes being blindly rah rah for everything we've done and all that we've espoused and exported to the world. There is a great deal of American culture that is just plain bad for everybody. There is a great deal that I see that is wrong with America and the current American culture. I'd like to see that changed. If that makes me anti-American, so be it. And I don't think it would make me anti-American to speak about it to people from other nations either. They all have eyes, they can see it. How much of our current culture do you really like ZD?
  4. People hear what they want to hear. I have listened to his speeches. The only thing I've noticed is that he lacks the arrogance that colored all of the Bush administration and still does. The idea that America is always right and everyone else is always wrong. If you can't handle that not being the case then the problem is yours not his. Basically all I've seen President Obama do is admit that America isn't now and hasn't been perfect. Something the rightwingloonies have a great deal of trouble doing.
  5. Perhaps we're finally sick and tired of fear-mongering whoever does it. And every time it's done, it just makes any legitimate issue seem less so because of the crap floating around.
  6. It's kind of funny that most people are seeing through the GOP tactics now. Attack a legitimate issue and we'll debate you about it,perhaps even agree with you. Attack a stupid issue and we'll call you stupid. Rising American debt - legitimate issue, I hate it also. Trying to paint Mr. Obama as anti-American - stupid issue that should have been dead and buried a long time ago.
  7. hmm judging from your screen name you someone to do it to her but not talk about it. And people call ME a prude.
  8. I was hoping for a poll on these so I could see how everybody voted. Oh well......My vote goes to Fluffy
  9. I believe that the Bonneville Power Administration in Washington State had I think 3 nuclear power plants all ready to go before they were shut down by the environmental lobby there. It was a huge flap that in the end spelled the defeat of Dixie Lee Ray for a 2nd term as governor. I wonder if they're still there.
  10. I'd say an older dog would be more stressed out with the plane ride than in the kennel. At the kennel he's got 10 days to become accustomed to things and would probably settle down pretty well. But riding a plane, going to your folks even though he knows them and then riding back in a plane would be pretty unsettling in my opinion. Plus you have no idea how the baggage handlers would deal with him either. I had a friend who had a doeling goat flown to her in a crate and when she arrived she was dead and they found pieces of tin cans in the crate with her. Some idiot baggage handler had tr
  11. Yeah! Would that we could get Congress termed out as well.
  12. If you're talking about the prison in Havre then that was supposed to be a privately run prison for overflow prisoners from other states. Unfortunately the people of Havre were sold a bill of goods since after it was built, laws were passed that prevented that from happening. So they have a nice modern empty prison up there on the highline. Which is probably why they were campaigning to get the Gitmo prisoners sent up there. I don't know that I'd want to live in Havre if the Gitmo guys were housed there though.
  13. Will your Terminator governor be terminated next election?
  14. I still think my question would be more in line with yes or no to govenment control. The support of federal funding for abortion could catch some people with religious objections as well as libertarians who object to government paid health care so that wouldn't be as good a measure in my opinion. My question is more about how intrusive do you want the government to be. For this reason I think the question on the death penalty should be thrown out as well. There are many different reasons that people are for or against the death penalty including religious and economic reasons. Therefore i
  15. This would be okay if they were relatively the same size and strength. But in this case I doubt that they are. I used to let the goats fight it out all the time. They're much like a pack of dogs in the herd in that there is always a herd hirearchy. And anytime that changed the whole herd had to go fighting for a couple of days to get the order all sorted out again. But they were pretty much the same size and weight when they started this. The kids would be pretty much protected by their mothers from any of the antics until they got big enough to work out their own place in the herd. Fro
  16. Perhaps go with federal government control vs community control? Nobody has mentioned education but to me that's both an economic and social issue so could be different questions addressing both. what about science funding? That's been a hot topic on this board whether the federal government shoudl fund it or private enterprise. And we can discuss the abortion issue in a way. Basically does the government have the right to force doctors or hospitals to perform abortions when their personal religious beliefs or mission statements oppose it? To my way of thinking, this has nothing to do wi
  17. I don't think I said that dude. In fact in the beginning of my post, I said that he should consult a trainer that had experience with those particular dog breeds especially Jack Russells. But in the meantime, he could certainly check out Victoria Stilwell's videos and books on the subject. I never had too much problem with our lab-great dane but I was still able to pick up some training tips from her show.
  18. The point I was trying to make is either 13 year olds are adult enough to make life and death decisions or they're not. The mother is an idiot by the way just in case you thought I was actually defending her. Only thing I'm pointing out is the inconsistencies with which we treat teenagers. They're old enough to have the judgement to take responsibility for their actions if they take someone else's life but not responsible enough to make a life and death decision about their own life.
  19. I believe there were a couple of cases in Texas too if I remember correctly. 13 is about the age that prosecutors start thinking of trying kids as adults if the crime is serious enough. And if Texas isn't a part of the United States then GW has some explainin' to do.
  20. Kind of surprising that a he and a she wouldn't get along. But Jack Russells are known to be fiesty. First of all is he neutered? Neutering can calm down the fighting instinct in a great number of dogs plus it keeps them from being so inclined to wander if that's a problem. I'd say chances are you'll never be able to trust them together alone. But there are some ways to get them to at least tolerate each other in your presence. There are a number of training programs you can do to accomplish this. I'd talk to an experienced dog trainer who knows the breed characteristics of each dog. Th
  21. At some point we have to decide an age of accountability for kids. We're willing to try them as adults at 13 for say murder etc but we say they don't know enough or don't have enough judgement to make decisions about their health care. So tell me, what makes a 13 year old have enough judgement to be tried for murder but not enough to decide if he want's treatment or not? Seems to me we're being pretty inconsistent here.
